Lanzarote - Will It Be Cold?

kurotora · 09/05/2025 09:24

I’ve upset and panicked myself a bit over our trip to Lanzarote next week (Wednesday to Sunday) by checking the weather. It looks like it’s going to be particularly windy with real feel temperatures 12-19C.

We’re staying at Bluebay in Costa Teguise. It’s a cheaper holiday, yes, but it’s all I could afford this year, and DD4 is really looking forward to lots of swimming pool.

Are we going to be looking at a cold, windy holiday?

We do have a hire car so won’t be stuck in the resort at least.

Is the pool heated? Most in the carnaries will be at this time of year. The weather forcast sounds normal for this time of year I’m afraid.

Dreichweather · 09/05/2025 09:32

I’ve just looked in the BBC weather app and their forcast is much better than that.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 09/05/2025 09:33

I haven’t checked your weather forecast, but the wind can be absolutely FIERCE there. The temperatures you’ve said aren’t great, but if it’s sunny as well I’m sure there’s loads you can get out of it. It’s still a beautiful island, lots to explore - you may just need to adapt your plans.

SJM1988 · 09/05/2025 09:33

You are going on Saturday and the weather is between 23 and 26 in the day. 15-18 at night.

I've had friends go and they said the pools were cold but you get use to it - their kids didn't mind at all. We purposely booked a hotel with a heated pool just in case.

hellswelshy · 09/05/2025 09:33

That sounds a very conservative estimate temperature wise, the BBC app is showing around 22-24? I wouldn't worry, its usually warmer than the forecast anyway. Enjoy!

Back21970 · 09/05/2025 09:38

Teguise can be quite windy, but I don’t think it will be cold.

I’ve been to Lanzarote on lots of occasions and only known a couple of times it’s rained and not cleared up right away, even in winter.

I find the pools quite cold anywhere I go so can’t comment on that.

Take something with a hood to be on the safe side.

It’s a beautiful island, I’m sure you’ll love it ❤️

We’re going Wednesday to Sunday. Apple weather is showing Weds onwards as all windy, real feel 12-19.

Sorry that should have said 'WE are going saturday'

The real feel does look less and its a bit windy from Wednesday but if you find a non windy spot you will be fine. Try not to worry about it. You can't change it so make the most of it

Hoolahoophop · 09/05/2025 10:07

We have gone this time of year before, and seen not so great forecasts before we go. But most resorts will have some shelter from the wind so it will be lovely in the sun. Just take jumpers for the evening.

Having had a look apparently ours is not! Naively I thought it would be fine in May since pool temp has been in Majorca at this time of year. I’m seeing that you can buy day passes to some hotels which do have heated pools though. Sadly swimming is the main draw for the wee yin!

I always use accuweather.com when in Lanzarote and it is as the name suggests accurate most of the time. The next 10 days weather look fab, 24/25 degrees during the day. Don’t forget the sun, UV, is a lot stronger there. Kids can take a pool that is a little cooler as well. Yes it will probably be windy but not usually a cold wind. Have a great holiday.

DogWithoutItsPerson · 09/05/2025 11:34

That sounds about normal for Lanzarote in May tbh. It’s very often very windy there regardless of the time of year.

Id want a heated pool in the canaries any time of year though, even when it’s roasting the pools are often pretty bloody cold unless they’re heated.

Whiteflowerscreed · 09/05/2025 11:36

We went mid march it was 21 every day and lovely. No wind

Plump82 · 09/05/2025 11:38

It will definitely not be that cold. Up until this year, we went to Costa Teguise every March for years and even that early in the year it was 25-27 degrees daily. It is windy though but don't let that fool you when it comes to SPF as the UV are very strong. Today it's 11.

Imperfectpolly · 09/05/2025 11:46

Haven't been to Costa teguise but we go to Puerto del Carmen or playa blanch every winter. We wouldn't use the pools unless heated. We head to the beach and usually it's 20 degrees in the day. You'd need trousers or a cardi for night time. You'll probably have lovely weather.

Dreichweather · 09/05/2025 12:20

You can always take a wet suit.

user2848502016 · 09/05/2025 13:31

No it should be lovely, mid 20s. Lanzarote can be fairly windy most of the year but it’s usually worse overnight. Highly unlikely to rain there in May.
We have been late March and we did get windy weather but it was warm enough for sunbathing and summer clothes.
Take a couple of cardis/hoodies just in case for the evening

Wolfiefan · 09/05/2025 13:35

My app said mid 20s. We went at Easter. Managed to get sun burn! There is wind but it wasn’t cold. We swum in the unheated pool and in the sea too. Wish I was going back.

SmugglersHaunt · 09/05/2025 13:37

I think the forecasts are usually for the temperature in the shade, so I’d expect it to be much warmer than that

bigknitblanket · 09/05/2025 13:39

If your little one is a pool baby and you don’t want to pay to go to other hotels, maybe get a shortie wetsuit just in case? Is there a shallower kids pool? They’re always warmer.

bigknitblanket · 09/05/2025 13:43

I’ve just looked online and they have a kids splashpool which will be way warmer than the normal pool - I’m sure you’ll have a great time! Don’t be fooled into thinking you don’t need sun cream because of the breeze though, I’ve been caught out by that 🦞

I also went to Lanzarote one Easter and I got the worst sunburn I’ve ever had! It was hot but you need to watch out because the wind makes it feel that wee bit cooler.

kurotora · 09/05/2025 15:52

Thank you all you’ve made me feel much better! I have a shortie wetsuit for DD so I’ll definitely pack that for her. As to UV, I burn on a cloudy day so well set with my million suncreams, UPF clothing and coverups etc. 😂

I’ve just put Costa Teguise onto Apple weather and it says 17-22 on Wednesday. Yes, windy, but that’s Lanzarote. You’d have to be very unlucky for it to drop to 12 degrees during the day (assuming you’ll be sleeping at 5-6am when temperatures are at their lowest).
