Have we ruined our DisneyWorld trip?

I need some reassurance or advice. We are due to fly to Florida for DisneyWorld this afternoon with SC and DS. We have little knowledge of international travel, I knew we needed ESTAs but didn’t understand the process. I checked with in-laws who are organising the whole trip if they had sorted ESTAs, and they said they had. Obviously I misunderstood that they were talking about their ESTAs only and not ours. We applied yesterday afternoon as soon as we realised we didn’t have ESTAs. Still pending authorisation. I am hugely panicking now that we won’t get them in time to check-in.

Argh how annoying!! Have you had to purchase new seats

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 14:38

DH has a habit of being vague and not clear in his communications too, so I should have double checked what he meant.

bloomin heck…. It would seem you need to spend your life double checking your DH and your FIL!

If there was ever a time in my life I needed the biggest glass of wine, it’s now.

But I can’t 😭

Phew and typical that they came through just after bloody check in!

ArtTheClown · 06/04/2025 14:46

At least you don't have the stress and uncertainly any more - the holiday starts now for you!

FelloffaCliffedge · 06/04/2025 14:48

It’ll be worth it when you get there tomorrow.
@Odellio just check with the airline that your return flights are still ok. Some airlines automatically cancel the return leg if you haven’t checked in for the outward flight.
Have a great holiday

So pleased they’ve come through OP! Have a great afternoon in London and an amazing holiday in truly one of the most magical places.

noquinoa · 06/04/2025 14:56

You will forget all this as soon as you walk through the gates at MK and see the castle! °o°

KatieKat88 · 06/04/2025 15:04

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but I'd also send a message to the hotel to tell them that you're not checking in until tomorrow, just in case they release your room!

MoneyBall1 · 06/04/2025 15:05

I’ve just come back from Miami and everyone was super friendly at immigration so I don’t think the unfriendliness is everywhere. Hope you have a lovely time OP!

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 15:11

How long is the holiday for? Is your DH also stressed? What’s the children’s response?

spicemaiden · 06/04/2025 15:20

Odellio · 06/04/2025 14:14

Bloody typical.

ESTAs all approved 26 minutes after check-in closed.

Too happy to be annoyed though, we’re off the Disney tomorrow!!

Yay. I read your posts early this morning and have been keeping my fingers crossed. Happy travels

Just to reassure people, I was worried about immigration after reading comments before travelling there last year, however we had a great experience. The officer even joked with us when we told them we were visiting Disney World.

One I had was fine, just asked if it was business or a holiday. Mine was for work and when I told him where, he said “you’ve been vetted already, you’re fine.”.

Wished me a pleasant stay and I was done in about 3 minutes.

NCTDN · 06/04/2025 15:41

How typical! At least you can relax now.

whynotwhatknot · 06/04/2025 15:44

just remind them they have to check in for your room aswell not just theirs

DH is an outwardly chilled person but he was very emotional under it all.

DS has had the best day ever seeing his grandparents, going on trains and shuttles etc. He’s none the wiser. SC have been great, they looked pretty devastated when we were booking the flight for tomorrow with no ESTAs. We had a big family hug in the middle of the terminal, and we told them how amazing they were for dealing with it so well.

Was he supporting you? Any practical support?

Sourgherkin · 06/04/2025 16:22

Sorry I missed…. Are you close to the airport?

TokyoSushi · 06/04/2025 16:22

Well done OP! Have a fabulous time!

You’ll talk about this for years to come and it’ll bond you as a family xx
