I drove from Sheffield to Truro for 6 hours, and back the same day once.

Dbro went to Australia for an interview. He got the job.

One night in what was optimistically described as a 'garden flat'. In reality a fly-infested grot-hole, but it was after a wedding and we had booked it to sleep. We should have stayed a week.

2 nights in South America for work meetings. Probably the same to the US various places

Dubai for 24 hours. Moscow 2 nights, 1 day in office - enough to know I am not going back. Manila 2 nights.

andrinaballerina · 02/03/2025 16:15

I was once asked to go to Vietnam for a two day site visit - I couldn't make the proposed dates though so didn't go. I did do another site visit to Kazakhstan and was in country for about 50 hours (partly due to a delayed flight out).

Flew to Amsterdam for morning meeting and then returned home on midday flight. Got the same flight crew on turnaround.
Waste of resources in hindsight but normal then. Zoom, Teams etc fill that gap now.

Several hours in Dover after a drive from an hour soth of Limoges. Then back on the next boat and home again. Needed to go to Lloyds bank for a house purchase transfer and it was the nearest.

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/03/2025 16:32

Outside of work, Cornwall to London for 1 hour, then back again.

For work, Cornwall to Glasgow for a 3 hour meeting and then back again. I did fly for that one.

shellyleppard · 02/03/2025 16:33

Derbyshire to Devon and back in a day for my nana funeral

Movinghouseatlast · 02/03/2025 16:34

Flew to Amsterdam for a one hour meeting once. Went to New York for a meeting, but stayed an extra night for thst one.

Lifelover16 · 02/03/2025 16:35

30 minutes in Skegness, having driven from Northampton. The wind was like the arctic, we were almost blown over. We staggered over to look at the stormy sea, had a quick coffee sitting in the car and drove back home. It was December though!

Chuchoter · 02/03/2025 16:35

Blackpool in the 1980s. Checked in and immediately checked out. Grim.

ghqpabks · 02/03/2025 16:38

4 nights Las Vegas, really enjoyed it, no regrets!

Once drove from Hampshire to just outside Edinburgh for a wedding, left in the middle of the night to get there, slept over that night and drove back in the morning, so so probably a 15-16 hour round trip to stay less than 24 hours.

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/03/2025 16:42

Bath to the Isle of Mull in a hired van- took 12 hours. Had some food and a sleep, loaded relatives furniture and returned to Bath.

eirefortriplecrown · 02/03/2025 16:44

My husband was working in China, but flew back to London for one meeting, then went back to China the same day. I thought he was mad, what is Zoom/Teams for???

ItGhoul · 02/03/2025 16:45

I did a few day trips to Amsterdam and Rotterdam for work a few years ago.

Have done loads of day trips to places in the UK involving five-hour drives each way with only about three hours spent at the destination.

SlowSloths · 02/03/2025 16:51

The Seychelles for 2 nights on a work trip. 36 hours of travelling each way. It was a lovely once in a life time trip despite the severe jet lag and sunburn.

rumblegrumble · 02/03/2025 16:52

I once drove from London to Manchester and back for a half-hour meeting. Though I didn't know it was only going to be half an hour when I set out.

I know a couple who drove from Edinburgh to Somerset and back again the same day for a funeral. It was during covid so they couldn't even stop for a meal, and because it was during covid the funeral was less than an hour. They were in their seventies at the time.

Similar also Hampshire

I forgot my sons Christmas presents but only found out after arriving in Scotland. Drove all the way back the next day and then back up.

I've done a day trip to Rome a couple of times.

TheAmusedQuail · 02/03/2025 16:54

Flew home to the UK for a job interview and flew back to Spain the next morning and drove from the airport back to work. So less than 24 hours.

Don't remember work being any harder as a result.

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/03/2025 16:55

Oh just remembered another from last year.

Drove from Cornwall to Newport for a 3 minute meeting with the passport office. After the meeting got a bottle of coke and drove home again. I really did need the passport though.

sciaticafanatica · 02/03/2025 16:56

Madrid
Milan
Amsterdam
Dublin
Belfast
Budapest
All for a day trip

purpleparrotthe · 02/03/2025 17:03

Was supposed to move to Coventry for work (rented house), drove there, unpacked, went food shopping, decided i’d had enough, packed it all up and then drive 200 miles back to my hometown and stayed in a hotel till i could rent a new place. Overall I was there about 4 hours. Was absolutely exhausted by the time I got to the hotel

TickingAlongNicely · 02/03/2025 17:06

DH once flew between the UK and Germany three times (return trips!) In one week.

It was supposed to be once at the beginning of the week...
