On the beach, in or walking distance to old town, walking distance to restaurants & maybe some bars

Bear with me - but maybe someone has a magical suggestion that Chat GPT & many hours of searching have not delivered.

This is our family criteria and we are really struggling for inspiration for both the location AND the villa / apartment. Location Europe. Timing early July.

We are ideally looking for self catering or villa that is within a short walk (5 mins) to a beach (stone, pebbles or sand) AND within a 15-20 mins walk to an old town. Bonus points if it’s ‘vibey’ for teens / young adults. It should also have parking, a BBQ, and air con. Pool would be nice. We need 3 bedrooms. And have a pre-Covid budget.

Nice? Alicante?

waltzingparrot · 23/02/2025 20:59

Something like this. We used to use villa plus, if you filter for 'no car required' they are usually close enough to walk to restaurants and beach. They nearly always have table tennis and pool tables, plus swim pool.

Villa plus have a good selection- we were really happy with ours last year and the customer service was very responsive too.

Oooh, you want Lindos on Rhodes. Gorgeous “old town” village, very vibe-y, very safe, two beautiful beaches.

It’s where I was planning on taking my two once they were older except they’ve turned out to be massively allergic to crowds, heat and fun. 😕

Hvar Town, Hvar Island, Croatia. Actually pretty much any of the Croatian islands fit the bill but Hvar is always my favourite.

Peniscola Spain. Fly to Reus if you can. Trip to portaventura possibly. Good Newtown beach/restaurants/bars. Fab old town restaurants. Not too pricey.

I came here to say this. Incredibly beautiful old town, bus/boat to Dubrovnik if needed. Amazing coastline.

Airbnb on the hill for very little, with semi private pool. Breathtaking.

Looks lovely. Is there a link? Have been to Dubrovnik a couple of times. Also stayed in Lopud which was fabulous when kids were small as no cars on the island.

I don't know if you'd like. I'm fussy and love love Croatia (too hot in August tho!) But I went to peniscola several times. I had a fab villa outside the main town but I've just given suggestions for beachside apartments to be budget conscious.

I really loved the old town. Really nice restaurants but we liked walking down the Newtown promenade to get ice cream. The Beach was crowded but its not like san sebastian beach was last August (Mental, also, pricey). Any beach that's straight onto an easily accessible promenade is busy. I quite liked hiring a sun lounger.
