Is Greece in July too hot?!

LemooonSlice · 06/02/2025 23:17

Planning to visit Corfu for a week at the end of July. Wanting to spend time at the beach mainly. DC all teens. Will it be too unbearably hot?

Have only been to France up til now, high 20s / low 30s. Thanks!

Yes.

Yes.

Last year the thermometer was hitting 40 degrees in Greece at that time of year.

Basically, anywhere in the Med will be hot in July and August.

TheFairyCaravan · 06/02/2025 23:19

The heat of Greece in September almost finished me off, so I’d say July would be unbearable.

Shoemadlady · 06/02/2025 23:35

We were in Corfu late July / August lat year and on the beach every day. We had kids of all ages with us and we were fine.
What do you define as too hot? Kids tend to play / stay in the pool alll day. Just be VERY careful of sunscreen. Too us every hour or so and use rash vests if you can to keep shoulders and arms covered x

LemooonSlice · 06/02/2025 23:52

Too hot would mean unable to go outside for a lot of time /dangerous to spend time on the beach I suppose. Wasn't sure if being near the sea would help reduce temperature, or if we'd be able to siesta through the worst!

We were out around the pool / sea all day and it's fine. Stay use the shade of an umbrella and enjoy the warmth xx

Pyjamatimenow · 06/02/2025 23:59

The heat is manageable. We went to Corfu in August last year. The mosquitos, however, are not manageable. Corfu is the worst place I’ve ever been to for them. I’ve been a few times and it’s always the same. I did everything last year. Bands, supplements, sprays… we were all bitten tons. I still have the scars.

bournevilleismyfavourite · 07/02/2025 00:05

As long as you have air con you’ll be fine. It’s very hot but you manage. We were there during the heat wave last year with no air con. We survived but it wasn’t great at night! And yes the mosquitoes are savage.

Flossflower · 07/02/2025 00:23

Yes it will be very hot. If you are really unlucky you could be there during a heatwave.

AnnaMagnani · 07/02/2025 01:00

Yes. And it might also be on fire.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/02/2025 02:36

Yes.

We went to Corfu last year in August....it was hot! I found it fine for lazing round the pool/resort and going to the beach. I did however find it too hot to actually do any sightseeing....we went to the town and I wanted to look round more and there was a particular place I wanted to visit but I found it too hot to do so. So I guess it depends on what you want on your hols.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/02/2025 08:05

It depends what you're doing. We used to go to Greece or Turkey for Nielsen holidays, so we were on or in the water most of the time (covered in copious factor 50 etc), in the shade during lunchtime and only places with aircon. DH would sometimes retreat to the room for a siesta.

None of us like heat much but it was dry heat not humid so mid 30s were tolerable.

I think just lying on a beach or by a pool would be hot and boring, wouldn't go if there weren't lots of watersports.

No way would we do sightseeing in summer, do that sort of thing Easter or October.

LovelyDaaling · 07/02/2025 08:08

Take heed of the mosquito warnings, a colleague had so many bites on her face, never seen anything like it.

Mynewnameis · 07/02/2025 08:09

Last August, tried to walk anywhere and clothing soaked in sweat.

Edenmum2 · 07/02/2025 08:11

Yes, like 'too hot to be outside hot'

Ubugly · 07/02/2025 08:12

I was there in that heat wave last year and that was the hottest I’ve experienced Greece and I’ve been at least 10 times but it was fine.

we went out early and then went in for a bit a peak sun and back out.

most years though we just do everything as normal but I am sensible as V pale.

aircon is a must, umbrella for shade is, decent suntan lotion and hat and cover up etc.

I absolutely love Greece.

UbiquitousObjects · 07/02/2025 08:14

Greece last August was too hot for us and I imagine July is the same? I wouldn't do it again.

10 days, lowest in the day was 34 on one day. Most days 39.

It was still 'fine' for us when lounging by the pool, at the beach, on a boat trip...none of us particularly struggle in the heat. But anything more than that was out. We went into town one day for a look, managed about 4 hours and we were wilting and had to go back to jump in the pool.

Worse for me than the day was the night. No relief from heat, still in the high 20's and boiling, but also felt more muggy at night. Dh and ds's took half their wardrobe home with them unworn - they had a few nice shirts and heavier cargo style or Jean shorts for the evenings and it was just too hot to wear them...we went for nice meals out with them all wearing their drifit sports tshirts and shorts 😂

Miresquire · 07/02/2025 08:15

I love Greece but we have ruled it out for July/August as the risk of severe heat is too high and we wouldn’t enjoy it.

We last went to Corfu in May and it was perfect.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 07/02/2025 08:15

We were in Greece for two weeks in July two years ago. Not Corfu but an Ionian island. For ten days it was 32-34ish and perfect. We had a pool, aircon and the sea. It never really dropped at night though. However for the last 4 days it was 38, pushing 40 and too much. I wouldn’t go past June tbh.

winterdarkness · 07/02/2025 08:20

Yes. I went last year in July and wasted 2 days of my holiday indoors as I couldn't face the 44C weather

And the wasps!

bugalugs45 · 07/02/2025 08:54

I love the heat but last few years I've been July / August it is too much to do anything .
Literally walking to the shop I'd be a sweaty uncomfortable mess in less than 5 minutes , so now we go May half term .
It's ok if you want to do nothing except lay on a sunbed all day with regular dips in the pool but any walking around / sightseeing big no from me

RitaFromTheRanch · 07/02/2025 09:12

I love it when it's really hot but you can't stay I the sun for long.

Corfu is further north so won't be as bad as say Rhodes, but Corfu is alway waspy.
