Silly question about package holidays menorca

Heavingonajetplane · 19/01/2025 12:12

So me DH and DD (16) want to go on holiday. It will be our first holiday abroad. I have never been on a package holiday before. Ideally we would like a two bed apartment but these seem very rare from the package holiday companies? If we book 2 rooms will they be together? I don't want to book and then find that DD is on the other side of the site. Majorca or Menorca probably

What you tend to have with 3 people is a one bedroom with a bed in the lounge. If you want 2 bedrooms and a lounge this will cost you a lot more.

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/01/2025 12:18

They’re def difficult to find but do exist, like op said a one bed with a sofa bed in the living area is far more common

if you book two rooms you cannot assume they will be next to each other

UpToonGirl · 19/01/2025 12:18

Who are you trying to book with? Most companies have an option to select the number of bedrooms. Do you want a two bedroom in a hotel or an apartment as sometimes you need to change the search function for that (jet2villas for apartments but jet2holidays for hotels).

We went to menorca last year with Jet2 villas and staying in a lovely 3 bed villa, very close to restaurants and shops with it's own pool.

MiddleAgedDread · 19/01/2025 12:49

It might also be that 16 is considered an adult and hence it’s forcing you to have 2 rooms rather than one for 2A+1C.
two bed apartments are ridiculously hard to come by IME, even in family centred resorts, I’ve never understand why folk want to go on holiday and all cram into one room!

Furball · 19/01/2025 12:52

They can only give you what rooms are available

So if no 206 leaves and 205 and 207 are staying another week - you wouldn't be able to get 2 rooms together.

dementedpixie · 19/01/2025 12:53

Would you consider a villa and then you can have more bedrooms and living areas too

Figgygal · 19/01/2025 12:54

Last 2 years we have booked seth isla paraiso in menorca through easyjet holidays.
2 bed apartments but has hotel facilities.
Quiet resort but we love menorca for that reason and short transfers too.

I'll never holiday in one room ever again so with you on apartments.

Seth mestral in santo tomas also has 2 bed apartments.

JackieGoodman · 19/01/2025 13:01

Package hols generally want to get max amount of people in the property, so expect families to go in 1 bed apartments. It is possible to get 2 bed apartments but generally you pay more. We always booked independently, so flights and accommodation separate, so we could get 2 bedroom apartment easily when holidaying with DS.

FusionChefGeoff · 19/01/2025 13:02

You'll get lots of 2 bed apartments if you look at self catering. As long as you're in walking distance to a town you won't need to actually self cater! Just get some breakfast bits in then eat out.

FusionChefGeoff · 19/01/2025 13:04

I'd highly recommend using an independent travel agent as they'd be able to give good advice and the holiday companies pay them a commission so doesn't cost you anything.

Ours is part of the Travel Counsellors group which seems legit unlike a lot of the MLM style ones popping up!

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 19/01/2025 13:06

Agree with PP. Look at self catering. We book regularly the Tayalots via Tui in Cala n Forcat. They have a good choice of 2 bed apartments

Yes, I think you need to set your search filter to self catering. You can still book this as a package eg via TUI or similar. There should be an option for one or two bedrooms, and with a one bedroom there should be a sofa bed in the living area.

Just do a check on google map to make sure that the apartments aren't too far from the beach/resort.

Assuming it is actually an apartment you want, rather than two rooms in a hotel?

Boffle · 19/01/2025 13:23

I wouldn't want my 16 year old on a sofa bed in the same room. The default assumption on holiday websites is to cram everyone into one room.
If you book two rooms in a hotel there is no guarantee they will be next door but your DD is 16 not 6 it's more a matter of convenience than necessity.
My adult DS often comes on holiday with us and I always email ahead to ask for rooms adjoining. Most hotels do their best. The worst that happened was that he was on a different floor directly above us.
Your chances are improved if you book two rooms of the same type. So if like me you choose the premium sea view room then you need the same for DD.

As others have said you could put self catering in the search field. Then in many places you can add breakfast and or dinner .

QuimCarrey · 19/01/2025 14:09

The majority of all inclusives I've been to have been a suite with one bedroom and one living area with sofa bed/s. Some of them can be quite spacious. If you could manage with this, you'd widen your options.

Heavingonajetplane · 19/01/2025 14:53

Thanks for all the replies. Not going to lie, I'd rather stay at home then have someone on the sofa bed!! So far I have tried. Jet2 , tui and easyjet. We want to be v near a beach. This is way too stressful!

Airbnb is what you need or apartments on booking.com

Heavingonajetplane · 19/01/2025 15:04

I agree @soupfiend but sadly DH doesn't..he wants a package because it will be "easier"

dementedpixie · 19/01/2025 15:06

But Jet2 do villa package holidays and others will too

Maddy70 · 19/01/2025 15:06

Just request two rooms together

dementedpixie · 19/01/2025 15:08

Easyjet has villa holidays too and will include flight and accommodation

RobinHood19 · 19/01/2025 15:37

Booking things separately is extremely easy.

  1. Flights - easy, compare prices on google flights or skyscanner.
  2. Accommodation - book on booking.com or Airbnb, filter by 2 bedrooms, pool, beach, whatever you need.
  3. Use taxi or local bus on arrival to get to hotel or apartment. It’s as simple as that.

Why does your husband think the above is complicated?

Heavingonajetplane · 19/01/2025 15:04

It is easier and you get more protection plus it's often cheaper depending on what you choose.

I want good flights from a local northern airport and a package from Jet2 or TUI is cheaper 99% of the time. If you don't mind flying at unsocial hours from Gatwick you can probably get it cheaper.

If you're set on a 2 bed apartment in a complex with meals you might find more options in the canaries.
Look on FB groups for your chosen location or tour operator for recommendations.

QuimCarrey · 19/01/2025 16:02

Yeah, it's not much more admin really. And one of the big draws of packages post lockdown, ie ease of refund if there were restrictions again, isn't really applicable now.

That said, as others have pointed out, you can book two bedroom accommodation in packages. Nothing wrong with that. It's just it might not be in an AI resort.

musicmum75 · 19/01/2025 16:32

There's not much jn the way of Airbnb in Menorca anyway. Your best bet is to get a self catering apartment. You shouldn't have any issue getting two bedrooms if you do that.

Geranium1984 · 19/01/2025 16:49

We had a great holiday in Menorca, and I'm looking at going back. I've also been looking for 2 bed apartments, and the holiday companies don't seem to offer them for some reason. But if you look on the actual hotel website they do. Not a huge amount offer them, but I've found quite a few x
