Australia

I like Australia and have been three times. I like it because they speak English and I don't do well in countries where I don't speak the language and they cannot understand me. I recently went to Australia and really enjoyed it and I want to go again but what puts me of is the amount of money it costs and the time it takes to get there. I don't mind a long haul flights but the jet lag takes longer to get over each time I do it and someone said to me why don't I spend the same amount of money going to a different country and experiencing a new culture because even if I go to a different part of Australia each time the culture is still more or less the same so I'm not really benefiting and if I go to Europe I could have three times the amount of holidays then I could with one long hole to Australia because the amount of money that I spend going to Australia could give me three holidays to Europe indifferent countries experiencing a new culture each time like France or Germany or Spain so I just don't know if that's better or the time wasting my money to keep going to Australia

What do you want from a holiday? What do you like about Australia which would help chose a different destination.

You'll find English is spoken widely in most European tourist resorts. Or you could go to east coast USA.

Well you're not going to find those outside of Australia!

Flute56 · 13/11/2024 07:37

I have done east coast USA and west coast USA and I've been to Florida and so I've got no interest in that country anymore

Why not chose a European destination which is tourist heavy so you can communicate with the locals better? Or learn the basic language of the countries you visit!

If neither of these appeal to you I suggest a uk break😂

Just go somewhere nearer then. Try Cyprus. English is very widely spoken, they drive on the left and the plug sockets are the same. Ireland is similar.

What were your questions? I was trying to help to suggest Euorpean destinations, based on what appealed about Australia.

GetOffTheCounter · 13/11/2024 07:46

Cyprus is great.

But if Australia is where you enjoy going, just do that. It doesn't matter what someone tells you you could do instead.

MugPlate · 13/11/2024 07:56

If you can afford to go to Australia regularly you can easily do a luxury Safari in South Africa - everyone speaks english.

Ellmau · 13/11/2024 07:59

New Zealand is as far as Australia but better scenery.

Canada - bearwatching in the Rockies?

Safari in Africa (Kenya, S Africa, Botswana - ££££ but may work for you)

Costa Rica

In Europe: for English speakers:
Ireland
Malta
Croatian coast
Portugal

For wildlife holidays in Europe take a look at destinations suggested on this site (just for research, not recommending it as I know nothing about it): Wildlife Holidays in Europe | Wildlife Worldwide

Are you travelling alone or with children and a partner? Do you want to hire a car, travel by public transport, or go on an organised tour?

If after doing a bit of research you still like Australia best then by all means go back there. It's your holiday,, your money, you should do what you like.

Wildlife Holidays in Europe | Wildlife Worldwide

Europe offers a wealth of natural delights such as dolphins, whales, bears, lynx, and rich avifauna - perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers.

Keep going to Australia but visit other countries on the way/way back.

That’s what we do.

No jet lag either.

We went to Australia 11 times on holiday and if I had someone I liked who would go with me I would be there like a shot - again.
We travelled all over the World but Australia drew us back again and again.

MissedItByThisMuch · 13/11/2024 08:09

Well if you like Australia just come here again. It doesn’t really matter what your friend thinks about your holiday choices. If you want a change add in somewhere else - NZ, or places where English is widely spoken eg Fiji, Vanuatu, Singapore. Or do a group tour in SE Asia where you are with an English speaking guide - we just did a Mekong cruise in Vietnam and Cambodia for example.

LovelyDaaling · 13/11/2024 08:15

What about Canada or the Caribbean?

Which major European travel destinations have you been to where English was not widely spoken or understood?

Certainly in southern Spain, all major German cities, Austria, the whole of Scandinavia and the Netherlands (and many more European destinations) English is widely spoken - over 85% of Danes speak English - and it is a standard requirement for staff working in hotels, cafes and the tourist industries. Most medical staff I have met speak English.

Obviously these places are not Australia and will have their own culture, landscapes and wildlife, but unless you try one or two of them, how will you know if you like them or not?

Another vote for NZ. I know it’s further to travel but the scenery in the South Island is stunning.

You don’t like much, do you?

MissedItByThisMuch · 13/11/2024 09:52

🤷‍♀️ Well I’m not sure what answer you’re looking for then, since you apparently “don’t like” anything anyone has suggested. Maybe make a list of the places/things you DO like - based on your replies here it’s likely to be short. Then pick something from the list. Or just come to Australia.

Vax · 13/11/2024 09:52

Just go back to Oz then.

You seem pretty closed minded on anywhere else. 🦘
