Australia

I like Australia and have been three times. I like it because they speak English and I don't do well in countries where I don't speak the language and they cannot understand me. I recently went to Australia and really enjoyed it and I want to go again but what puts me of is the amount of money it costs and the time it takes to get there. I don't mind a long haul flights but the jet lag takes longer to get over each time I do it and someone said to me why don't I spend the same amount of money going to a different country and experiencing a new culture because even if I go to a different part of Australia each time the culture is still more or less the same so I'm not really benefiting and if I go to Europe I could have three times the amount of holidays then I could with one long hole to Australia because the amount of money that I spend going to Australia could give me three holidays to Europe indifferent countries experiencing a new culture each time like France or Germany or Spain so I just don't know if that's better or the time wasting my money to keep going to Australia

TBH Op I'm not sure why your friend telling you you should branch out of Australia has unsettled you so much when you are so dismissive, blunt and plain rude to people who are trying to engage with you in good faith.

Be dismissive blunt and plain rude to your friend and tell them you like Australia and she needs to wind her neck in. Much better use of your time.

South Africa or Botswana/Kenya

FlyMeToPluto · 16/11/2024 16:57

SA looks so much like parts of Australia I had to do a double take first time I went there

GetOffTheCounter · 16/11/2024 16:57

Your op. Where you said your friend asked you why you did not go somewhere other than australia and experience new things and places for less money.

Sigh. Yawn.

Berlinlover · 16/11/2024 17:08

OP, you are one of the rudest people I’ve ever come across on Mumsnet, I can’t understand why people are even bothering to help you.

Flute56 · 16/11/2024 17:09

Somebody on this thread made reference to the fact that they remembered me from a previous thread about Australia and blocking a friend and the friends thinking that somebody who was very kind to me was doing that because she was gay I can't find that thread because I wanted to respond to that but the friendlocked we're back together now as friends and she is still convinced that the woman who did so much for me in Australia is gay I said are you joking he said no I'm deadly serious the woman is gay and she fancies you so that's what her opinion and she kept on and on saying that so she left me actually wondering whether there might be some truth in it

Am I missing something? What does this have to do with your actual original post?

GetOffTheCounter · 16/11/2024 17:30

Nothing. I doubt the OP is posting in good faith at all and is simply winding us all up.

I take my personality from my mum because she was very rude and verbally abusive even to me and we never got on

Don't need to swear anyway as I said I'm not coming back to this stud anymore I initially asked if it was a waste of money to keep going to Australia and I haven't really got a proper answer so I'm barring out of this thread now is gone very badly and I don't want anything more to do with it I know what I like I know what I want and if people can't accept that and try to persuade me to see part of the world I'm not interested in then I'm out of here

Would posters please stop encouraging this woman to go to Australia. We have enough issues here in Australia without strangely aggressive Brits visiting us thank you.

Jeez, Australia is welcome to you OP.

Thanks, but we could do without rude tourists in Australia. OP should probably stay home so they don't inflict their rudeness on others!

You mention having been to Canada but in reality you’ve only been to Banff and Calgary. For a huge country you’ve seen very little.

Yes, they've also been to NZ but in fact never moved out of Wellington.

Something tells me OP is not one of the brighter people on this planet. Australia has my sympathy.

OP, I'm curious what you do for a living, as I'd imagine you must be well paid to make so many trips to Australia, which isn't cheap.

But you're so horribly rude I'm just intrigued as to what you work as? Horribly rude but also not with great attention to detail, as you berated the first poster for not answering your questions....when in fact you're rambling OP didn't actually see to ask any specific questions.

You sound very rude but also not that bright.

Sorry to be blunt, but it appears you don't have a problem with bluntness.

HoppingPavlova · 17/11/2024 11:13

@angryformoreadon People swam off a platform but it was so crowded that all we could see was other people. The lunch was ok.
There was a submersible vehicle which was also ok but honestly I'd look into it carefully before you decide to do it

Good to know. Can you advise what other company/ies you went with that had reef platforms that were not crowded. Would be good to know to advise people as I often have people ask for rec’s knowing I go periodically. As far as I understand they are all pretty much crowded ‘in season’ which is why we always go out in stinger season as it’s not an issue😁. I like doing snorkeling around isles but always spend a day out on a platform as you see things such as (nice) sharks and lots of other life that you won’t see where they take you snorkeling around isles. Not sure about the sub, I have seen them but never used one as assumed they are only for people that don’t snorkel, as what’s the point otherwise? Do they actually go right down? DH and one of the (adult) kids are amazing snorkeler’s and can go to quite a depth but myself and the other kids can’t so maybe we have been missing out re the sub’s?

Edited to add - if you didn’t have seats going out, were there enough seats for people to eat lunch? While I understand that they may have less seats than people as it only takes an hour odd to get out to a platform and people like my kids just don’t want to sit for that short time and prefer to be outside if they don’t make an inside call due to conditions, and even then prefer to stand and ‘surf’, how did that work for lunch? Surely people want to be seated for lunch, I would! We never have it, as we prefer to use that time for extra snorkeling- and hope that someone else has overdone it. But if someone has overindulged, when they come back to snorkel, and it comes up, you get 100x more marine life in the area. Regurgitated human food is like food if the gods to them, so we always live in hope😁. But seriously, are you saying there are not enough seats for people to eat lunch if they want it? As I said, I only go out of season, so never an issue but good to know if advising others as I’d want a seat to eat.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/11/2024 11:53

Malta is great English
So is Dubai

angryformoreadon · 17/11/2024 12:47

It's wasn't a problem for the lunch because they had picnic style benches and the lunch was a running buffet type thing with people coming and going because they are snorkelling etc.
We didn't try any other reef style trips and just did a few islands where you went off the beach so I can't recommend them but perhaps our snorkelling skills were lacking !
Also maybe our expectations were very high .

I find it weird that someone can be so close minded to other places in the world which she may find equally interesting.

Hell no.

She's your problem now for at least a few weeks a year Grin
