Norfolk days out for a 7 year old - Not beach/arcades!

Hi All,

We are off to Norfolk next week (Cromer). Does anyone have any recommendations for some fun days out other than beaches/arcades? We are there for a week so need some different bits for in between!

Many Thanks!

Definitely Bewilderwood, it's brilliant. Roarr! is also good if he likes dinosaurs.

Lifestooshort71 · 21/08/2024 13:34

Boat trip on the Broads?

redskydarknight · 21/08/2024 13:36

Pensthorpe?

Changingname1988 · 21/08/2024 13:37

The Shire Horse Sanctuary at West Runton.

North Norfolk railway (Holt to Sheringham or vice versa). Then either catch a bus into Holt or explore Sheringham.

MigGril · 21/08/2024 13:42

North Norfolk Railway is good if they like trains.

I second Bewilderwood, it's a fun for adults to.

The Wizard Maze & Play at Metton
Time & Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth
Langham Glass
Norwich Castle
Holt Country Park
Sheringham Park
Horsey Windpump
Horsey grey seals colony
Cromer RLNI Museum
Muckleburgh Military Collection
Crabbing at West Runton beach

Yes I was going to say Bewilderwood too! It's amazing!

Dysom · 21/08/2024 13:52

Another vote for Bewilderwood, it's great!

theredspindletree · 21/08/2024 13:57

Dinosaur park at lenwade or wroxham barns

InfoSecInTheCity · 21/08/2024 14:00

Blakeney for crab fishing and to see the boats. I have very fond memories of sticking chunks of bacon on the line and filling the bucket with snappy little crabs when I was a child.

We had a great time at Roarr! recently which is a dinosaur themed park.

Heard good things about Bewilderwood.

There are two National Trust properties nearby and Dersingham Glass is also really good.

Pottingup · 21/08/2024 14:10

Mine loved the steam train, crabbing in Cromer and boat trip to see the seals

Magicmagician · 21/08/2024 14:13

You can hire bikes at the Blickling Estate (National trust), another vote for the steam train too. We caught a boat on the broads from Wroxham when we went which was nice, very chilled.

howlsmovingbouncycastle · 21/08/2024 14:15

Amazonia is a really nice small zoo just outside Cromer.

EdithWeston · 21/08/2024 14:23

I second all the ideas on this thread!

My list would be:

  • the dinosaurs at Lenwade (good for younger DC)
  • a day boat on the Broads from Wroxham (possibly including the Broads Museum at Stalham) and shopping at Roys. Or hire kayaks/aquabikes
  • a trip to either/both the Little Theatre in Sheringham or the summertime special at the pier at Cromer,
  • stately home visit (see what's on at National Trust Blickling or Felbrigg),
  • Norwich Castle, and treasure hunt walk round the city
  • have an adventure with The Canoe Man
  • if passing, call in at an amazing children's bookshop near Aylsham NCBC

Gressenhall Museum - a former workhouse in large grounds- loads to see and do in the main house, plus a school room, chapel, old style shops, cafe etc in the other buildings. Decent adventure playgoround and picnic area. Plus a large farm with tractor rides, small animals, displays etc.
Holkham Hall near Wells also a good family day out, you don't have to pay to go inside the house if that's not your thing, grounds are extensive with deer park, walled gardens, adventure playground and tractor trailer rides. From the village of Holkham you can walk (it's a bit of a trek) to the beach, often voted one of the best in the country. Or a trip into Wells next the Sea where you can eat fish and chips on the harbour, go crabbing and take the mini train to the beach.

Orford castle is quite nice. It’s really a large tower on the coast but with great views of sea.

Framlingham Castle is bigger & inland with a wall walk.

ShittyTitty · 21/08/2024 18:01

Caister castle and car collection is brilliant but maybe not with little kids

MarchionessOfMayhem · 21/08/2024 18:06

Horsey Wind Pump and wildlife boat trip! Our 7 year old loved it!

It's really nice.

How Hill nature reserve is nice and there are wildlife boat trips there too.

Another approach is to hire an electric boat at Potter Heigham, then you can explore the quieter waterways and Broads that the big hire boats can't get to under the bridge.
