Potential broken arm day before we fly to Spain

My 9 year old son just came back from sports camp with what looked like a broken wrist. It's swollen and he can't move it, he's in alot of pain. He got hit really hard by a football. My partner has taken him to A&E but we are due to fly to Spain tomorrow for a week long villa holiday with 5 other families.

We are going to ask about a split cast if it's broken, has anyone managed to fly 24 hours after getting a cast?? He obviously won't be able to swim if he has a cast and that's what the kids do most of the day 😭

So worried for him and devastated about the holiday, don't know what to do

@DancingNotDrowning

  1. I didn't say anything of the sort.
  1. I'll happily answer once you answer the question I asked first.

erm nowhere have I said you did Hmm

to borrow the words of a PP you seem rather inappropriately and weirdly invested in my DCs healthcare

You literally did.

Since we’re asking questions, what are the medical qualifications that you have that make you think you - a person who has no facts, details or history and who has never examined or spoken to my DS - know better than an experienced consultant who did have all of those things?

How many days were between the original cast and new cast?

She never said it was for a week. Or that her DS swam every day. What she said was this. "Yes twice had broken arms on holiday.

order a blue plastic sleeve off Amazon today and he’ll be able to go in pool.

one DC used it, one didn’t preferring just to get his cast wet. It was absolutely disgusting but we took him to get it changed when we got back from holiday"

Holidays can just be for a few days, you know.

And I've absolutely had a consultant say it's OK to get a cast wet, with conditions, so I don't know why you find that so hard to believe.

And she didn't use the NHS so paid for the cast change, either directly or through her insurance. So not sure why it's any of your business anyway. As parents we all have to learn to assess risk levels ourselves and make those judgements.

Edit for typo - swam not swan :)

@seedsandseeds given your embarrassing lack of comprehension I’m not sure why I’m indulging you but it was about 15 days.

seedsandseeds · 13/08/2024 21:49

@TheBossOfMe I didn't mention the NHS or anything to do with that. I responded to one comment and they responded asking them how long it was.

Nice. And swimming without anything covering the cast formed part of the consultant's advice?

Yes. I’ve already answered this:

I took consultant advice. Which was that occasionally getting the cast wet wouldn’t hurt and we’d change it on his return. No “recommendation”; no “swimming for a week”

seedsandseeds · 13/08/2024 22:46

@DancingNotDrowning Just clarifying.

We all make risk assessments every day in our lives as parents. I’m not sure what your problem is with that.

seedsandseeds · 13/08/2024 23:21

@TheBossOfMe Where have I said I had a problem with that?
It wasn't even the case. PP said that it was the consultant's advice so why would I have a problem with something that didn't exist in this situation?

DancingNotDrowning · 14/08/2024 00:02

@seedsandseeds in which case I have no idea why you’re so weirdly obsessed with my situation.

You’ve twice misrepresented my posts and appear to be tee-ing up some poorly executed gotcha.

hopefully now you can sleep having had all your questions answered and reassured that no harm was done 🤣

I responded to your post and you responded so I continued the conversation.
If you think I'm obsessed you needn't have replied.
What gotcha? You let your dc get a soaking wet cast without it getting changed for 15 days, that's your choice.
You seemed to suggest to pp that their assumption that you went for a week was absurd, it turns out it was longer than two weeks. Again, that's your choice and your issue, I was simply confirming.

DancingNotDrowning · 14/08/2024 00:50

again you’re misrepresenting my posts. I assumed stupidity but now I think you’re being deliberately, weirdly, disingenuous.

You have no idea how far in advance of the holiday his arm was broken; how long before the cast was changed it got wet; or how long we were on hols for.

have a great night 👍

I'm really not.

You too.

Just to update, we got him a Bloccs cast cover and it's worked brilliantly. He's been in the pool every day and he's been amazing with the whole thing, hasn't complained once

Good to hear he (and the rest of you) had a good holiday, after all the worries.

Spain give out 600mg tablets of ibuprofen and the max here is 400mg so just check the strength if you buy any out there. I remember asking the pharmacist the dosage as I’d never seen 600mg.

Also check Spanish paracetamol. I bought some in Palma and it was 2x the UK strength. If I’d taken the standard 2 tablets x 4 doses over 24hrs I would have overdosed. Luckily I thought it looked off & googled before taking it.

boatyardblues · 16/08/2024 20:05

I’ve just spotted you travelled last week. Hopefully my paracetamol post will be helpful for someone else.

Oh yeah it’s only 1 tablet out there, I got that too. 1000mg per tablet
