Rental hosts - do you leave dishwasher tablets?

If so, how many?
One per day?
A few?

My mum used to own a holiday apartment, and would leave a couple of dishwasher tablets to get people started. I've regularly rented apartments or villas, and I'd say the majority of hosts don't leave any, or perhaps just one. Sometimes previous tenants may leave half a box, but it seems common now for the cleaners to completely clear a villa/apartment before the next visitors arrive.

Not a host but have often stayed in lodges, etc. In my experience, there have always been dishwasher tablets - enough for one a day. It’s always the cheaper tablets, but they have always been there.

AdultHumanEmail · 07/08/2024 10:07

No. Why would I? If the guest wants to use my dishwasher, they should bring their own tablets. I don't expect to be catered for like a child, neither should they.

Because you're renting out the property?
For the duration of the let, they have use of the dishwasher.
Do you not leave bed sheets either?

i always left cleaning stuff. Anything to help people care for your property! I also left salt pepper, oil, cling film and foil. It’s annoying buying those things just for a little bit.

oh quantity, 5-7 for a weeks stay.

Peonies12 · 07/08/2024 10:10

I'd expect dishwasher tablets, 1 a day, if I stayed in a place with a dishwasher. Same as leaving washing up liquid.

thesoundofsummer · 07/08/2024 10:11

There have always been dishwasher tablets when I've stayed in holiday lets. Usually a few for the stay. Occasionally a box left - I'm assuming from previous holiday makers

Correct: they have use of the dishwasher - not of my tablets.

Same here. I'd imagine owners run the risk of people just hoping a hot wash will remove dirt, even without dishwasher tablets, if they don't leave them.

I also want enough loo roll for my entire stay, but that's another argument!

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/08/2024 10:15

I most places I have stayed they have left 1 tablet for each day of my visit. If the cleaners come in, they top them flip accordingly.

Nice attitude 🙄

Yes we leave 1 per night stayed. We have an air bnb. We also leave coffee pods, washing machine pods and long life milk, cookies and a bottle of wine :)

Namerequired · 07/08/2024 10:18

I’m just home from an Airbnb and they left dishwasher tablets, washing pods, fairy liquid, toilet roll, and a kitchen roll. Lots of crockery and cutlery. I haven’t had this in everyone I have stayed in, but it’s the reason I’m raving about this one and also intend to return to it.

ARichtGoodDram · 07/08/2024 10:19

We do one per day and a couple extra.

Much less hassle than discovering unwashed dishes, or ones just washed with water and not completely clean.

DragonFly98 · 07/08/2024 10:20

never stayed anywhere that they haven't.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 07/08/2024 10:20

I recently stayed in an apart hotel with a kitchenette for a few days in a European city. So we were flying. They left washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing machine tablets, cloths, teatowels, full crockery, utensils, pans etc. And we could ask for more. It was perfect. I would never stay anywhere where I was expected as a holiday traveller to pack that or to have to make wasteful purchases.

ARichtGoodDram · 07/08/2024 10:20

We also leave at least one loo roll per day per bathroom. Running out of loo roll is my pet hate so I hate when you go to places in the middle of nowhere and discover you've been left with half a roll or something like that.

Namerequired · 07/08/2024 10:20

Oh and they left approx 1 per day. We didn’t use them all but it certainly helped in keeping the place clean

Icanttakethisanymore · 07/08/2024 10:22

We leave them - typically 'a few' but always more than one per day. We don't ration them particularly but in the past we've left a big bag and it's got wet inside and ruined the lot so hence the reason for not leaving the bag.

Davros · 07/08/2024 10:23

Yes, we always leave them. A whole box which gets replaced when it's low

Icanttakethisanymore · 07/08/2024 10:25

For some perspective, I think dishwasher tablets come in at about 14p a tablet for the expensive ones so hardly a bit expense and an annoying thing to have to buy especially or remember to take.

SunQueen24 · 07/08/2024 10:25

I would leave a couple as a gesture. I’ve never been anywhere that leaves more - center parcs i think leaves 1.

Whatever you do, guests will moan.

They wont moan if you leave enough for the duration of the stay. That's what we always do and no-one moans!

Caspianberg · 07/08/2024 10:28

Yes. I fill a tub with them, which fits 16. That’s regardless of how long they stay (we have 5 night min)

I also include plenty of toilet roll, hand soap, clean spray, sponges and cloths.

I would much rather guests use the dishwasher tablets and put crockery in dishwasher to clean properly, than people half ass attempt to hand wash with no soap or not cleaning.

Guests always leave property clean ( I mean normal wipe surfaces, used plates in dishwasher, not hoovered and sparkling). And nobody has ever just emptied or stolen the dishwasher tablets so I don’t see an issue. Ie 16 tablets fit in tub, less than half are usually gone for 7 night stay, so most people use 5-7 for a week stay, and leave the rest
