Rental hosts - do you leave dishwasher tablets?

If so, how many?
One per day?
A few?

I've never stayed anywhere that didn't provide them. I don't expect to take dishwasher tabs on holiday if I've paid for a nice apartment or cottage.

Gazelda · 07/08/2024 10:28

I'm currently at a Eurocamp site. Dishwasher tablets were provided, but no loo roll.

I'd have preferred it the other way around, but fortunately always being loo roll wherever I go, so no disaster.

No. Why would I? If the guest wants to use my dishwasher, they should bring their own tablets. I don't expect to be catered for like a child, neither should they.
but it's not 'your' dishwasher; you've provided it in a holiday let, everyone else leaves them, at less than 10p it won't break the bank, do you leave loo rolls? anything?

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 07/08/2024 10:30

Yes everywhere I’ve ever rented or Airbnb’d has come with basic supplies like washing up stuff, coffee pods and toilet paper. I don’t get why you wouldn’t just want to be a nice host (I hope I never stay at the PP’s rental who doesn’t supply - what a horrible attitude towards your guests!). The best places have a little basket with some local produce as well. It doesn’t take much effort to delight your guests!

Kelly51 · 07/08/2024 10:30

@addictedtotheflats
You sound a fab host, where is your let??

ClaudiaWankleman · 07/08/2024 10:30

ThePoshUns · 07/08/2024 10:16

Nice attitude 🙄

If you charge for it, it's expected that you provide the necessary items to use it. It's like also providing a sponge and some washing up liquid, toilet roll, pillow cases etc.

I went to a place where the owners were relying on the previous occupants to have washed up properly - they hadn’t, it’s grim and showed the place in a bad light. I don’t get why you wouldn’t want to provide cleaning products, it’s not a massive expense out of the cost of a rental.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/08/2024 10:33

I’m always very appreciative of the dishwasher tablets in the properties we stay in because I don’t have a dishwasher at home, so tablets are the one thing I’d have to buy just for the week and then have no use for afterwards.

HolyZarquonsSingingSeals · 07/08/2024 10:33

AdultHumanEmail · 07/08/2024 10:11

Correct: they have use of the dishwasher - not of my tablets.

Talk about spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar!

Turophilic · 07/08/2024 10:34

Every holiday let I’ve stayed in has provided a few dishwasher tablets and a couple of pods for the coffee machine.

PJ04JCW · 07/08/2024 10:36

Ours sleeps 10, so we leave 2 tablets per day, laundry liquid, hand soap, washing up liquid, 9 loo rolls for a week, kitchen roll, kitchen spray and a basket of local produce

bluecomputerscreen · 07/08/2024 10:42

holiday park type places tend to not leave anything. no sheets or towels either.
unless you book that as extra.

private rental has been either or.

tbh I don't mind as long as it's very clear in the booking information.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/08/2024 10:42

I leave a tablet for every day of their stay. Same with loo roll. Also enough pods to make a coffee per person once a day.

In Greece they usually leave absolutely nothing except washing up liquid and a sponge. It really annoys me so I leave what I would like to be left myself.

SunQueen24 · 07/08/2024 10:45

Icanttakethisanymore · 07/08/2024 10:27

They wont moan if you leave enough for the duration of the stay. That's what we always do and no-one moans!

You have to draw the line somewhere with the extras though.

Found the slumlord, didn't take long.

Ethelswith · 07/08/2024 10:47

Dishwasher tabs are quite expensive as you can only buy in big packs (which you might not want to be lugging back)

I’d expect one a day

We’ve just stayed somewhere off mains sewage, and they provided macerator biome-friendly dish washer tabs, washing up liquid, laundry stuff and cleaning sprays. That’s more than I’ve come across anywhere else, and utterly brilliant. Especially as there was also enough loo roll

BobnLen · 07/08/2024 10:48

We rarely stay in holiday accommodation but the couple of time we have, enough dishwasher tablets have been left for the week

Chemenger · 07/08/2024 10:53

I’ve experienced everything from no tablets to slightly more than one per day. I usually take some with me just in case, because it’s a pain to have to buy a whole box. Didn’t stop my FIL sticking “a good squirt” of fairy liquid in the dishwasher instead (because he “couldn’t find” either my tablets or the ones provided). See previous thread on how to de-foam a kitchen.

TFrth · 07/08/2024 10:53

Where I've stayed dishwasher tablets have always been provided. It would be annoying to have to buy a whole box just for a short stay.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 07/08/2024 10:59

SunQueen24 · 07/08/2024 10:25

I would leave a couple as a gesture. I’ve never been anywhere that leaves more - center parcs i think leaves 1.

Whatever you do, guests will moan.

call me a cynic but, don’t centre parcs also have an onsite shop? Probably selling tiny week long boxes of dishwasher tabs

Not cynical. They do. You can purchase a box for a million pounds.

maximist · 07/08/2024 11:12

I'd expect one tablet per day of my stay. I've paid through the nose for my stay, and that would cost the host less than a pound. Having to go and buy a whole box and then lug it home would be extremely annoying, and my review would reflect that.

Cem82 · 07/08/2024 11:13

We stayed in a bungalow in a holiday camp and they left 3 tabs for a week which I thought was nice! We wouldn’t run a dishwasher everyday on holidays as we tend to be out a lot but it’s nice not to have to buy a box.

Silvers11 · 07/08/2024 11:19

I have only stayed in 1 place which had a dishwasher - and they left almost enough for 2 weeks. But we stay self-catering quite often. We have never stayed anywhere that didn't provide at least toilet rolls, new j-cloth or similar and a pan scourer in the kitchen. If I knew there was a dishwasher I would probably take 2 or 3 tablets with me just to make sure I had them for the first day or two until I can do a shop.

I fully expect to have to buy anything and everything I might need, but now I wait until I get there and see what has been left. Nearly always there will be washing-up-liquid, tin foil, cling film, sandwich bags, salt and pepper, hand soap - but I have always assumed that in most cases, the host has left new stuff like that at the start of the holiday season, and then people staying there just replace what they use up for things like that and leave them for the next holiday makers. It's what I do with things like that. Replace if I finish something.

The best places also provide a 'welcome pack' with things like tea, coffee, sugar, milk in the fridge and some biscuits/ fruit/or similar - which is lovely and much appreciated, but I don't expect them!

Only the “1” million. Bargain. 😆
