Do you think 1x two week holiday is better than 2 x one week holidays?

Over 6 months. Is it better to push through to month 6 and then take 2 weeks off?

Or is it better to work 3 months, take one week off, and then work another 3 months and take one week off?

Work in high stress jobs (lawyers). Both holidays long haul but fly premium so comfy enough.

Two 1 week holidays or 1 ten day plus a long weekend.

AnotherEmma · 21/07/2024 21:17

One 10 day holiday plus a long weekend.

I find a week isn't long enough to properly switch off and relax. Two weeks is too long. And if you're flying long haul you might as well stay for 10 days.

A long weekend which isn't too much travelling can feel like longer in terms of giving you a mental break.

I hate packing and preparing for hols so I'd say one two week holiday would suit me better. Have you got children with you and do they enjoy the days spent traveling there and back. Mine don't so I'd also opt for a two week holiday so that equates to a total of two travel data with them rather than four. That's just us though! Everyone is different

Portfun24 · 21/07/2024 21:18

I'd personally rather have 2 x 1 week holiday and have two periods off work to destress than one longer one.

MartyFunkhouser · 21/07/2024 21:18

One week is too short, unless staying in uk.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 21/07/2024 21:18

I LOVE a two week holiday, I've converted several colleagues, you need it to properly switch off if you work in a stressful job. I don't even always go away for the full two weeks, maybe ten days but take two full weeks off work at least once a year

Lighttodark · 21/07/2024 21:19

2 x 1 week holidays.

2 x 1 week holidays.

Attictroll · 21/07/2024 21:20

Totally depends on what you do with the time. I find it hard to go so long and also find 1 week holidays abroad to short to properly turn my brain off. I would probably choose a 10 day holiday overseas in a place to explore and one long weekend in the uk or Europe across the 6 months

Watchthedoormat · 21/07/2024 21:21

Two one week hols. Once you're back from the first you have another to look forward to.

Mills88 · 21/07/2024 21:23

I always go for one week at a time but twice a year, spreads it out and I have something to look forward to!

Blueroses99 · 21/07/2024 21:24

I prefer a 2 week holiday as I find it hard to switch off properly in a week.

BeyondMyWits · 21/07/2024 21:25

It depends very much on responsibilities for us... our elderly dog is not good in kennels for more than a week, and elderly MIL has dementia amongst other conditions, so we stick to a week from time to time. Not long haul travellers any more though... Europe and UK for us.

Inthemosquitogarden · 21/07/2024 21:27

2x 1 week. DH and I both lawyers too and dh, particularly, can’t leave client matters longer than a week (neither of us can switch off in a week as we’re still contactable - 2 weeks would be just the same!)

PosingPosture20 · 21/07/2024 21:27

Honestly, I'm not keen on either 1 or 2 week holidays. A week sometimes doesn't feel quite enough and it places additional stress on getting good flight times etc to make the most of it. 2 weeks I find too long - it's such a rush either side of the holiday.

We always go for 10 days abroad which I find perfect. So I'd go for 10 days plus long weekend.

Two 1 week holidays or 1 ten day plus a long weekend.

I was going to say the same. In a 6 month period if I only had 2 weeks holiday I’d take a 10 day break - 7 days holiday. And then 2 long weekends, ideally linking in to a bank holiday. So never more than 7 weeks or so away from the next break!

leeverarch · 21/07/2024 21:33

If they are long-haul, then travelling is tiring enough, and if you are only there a week, it won't be all that restful.

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/07/2024 21:37

2x1 week as long as away from home.

QueenOfWeeds · 21/07/2024 21:38

If my ex is anything to go by, if there is a chance your holiday will be cancelled then I’d be booking two separate ones to maximise the chance of going away.

My preference would also be 10 days + long weekends. We splurged a week’s holiday money on a long weekend (main holiday cancelled by his firm) and it was utterly fabulous.

Bournetilly · 21/07/2024 21:38

I’d prefer 2 x1 week holidays but if they would both be long haul I’d do 1 x2 week holiday.

DecafDodger · 21/07/2024 21:41

2 week if going long haul, otherwise you spend half the holiday travelling and getting over jet lag

StripedPiggy · 21/07/2024 21:41

No. I prefer to take 2 x 1 week holidays unless I am planning to travel long-haul to somewhere with a big time difference.

If I’m going to Europe, 2 weeks in a resort feels too long, and a 2 week touring holiday starts to feel like a slog. In a resort or on an island you have basically seen all there is to see & done all there is to do by the end of the first week anyway. Also, taking 2 x 9 day breaks from work feels like a more efficient way to maximise your annual leave entitlement than 1 x 16 day break.

TubeScreamer · 21/07/2024 21:44

2 x 1 week

i go stir crazy by day 4 of holidays and start counting the hours until I can go home.

Twilightstarbright · 21/07/2024 21:57

Two senior finance people here- we do 2x1 week holidays and choose carefully so it’s relaxing. We switch on holiday mode pretty quickly and are very frequent travellers.

Britsfivk · 21/07/2024 22:05

What type of holidays do you like? One 10 day beach plus water activities in the summer/ one 5 days of skiing in winter could work?
