Do you think 1x two week holiday is better than 2 x one week holidays?

Over 6 months. Is it better to push through to month 6 and then take 2 weeks off?

Or is it better to work 3 months, take one week off, and then work another 3 months and take one week off?

Work in high stress jobs (lawyers). Both holidays long haul but fly premium so comfy enough.

I prefer 1 x two week as the preparing for the actual holiday is stressful. It also takes me a week to unwind on holiday, then we like to spend the following week exploring.

I would have always said 1 week holiday. However after going for two weeks last year I realised I did not relax until around day 5 so the extra week was lovely. However, we stop in a family apartment abroad with home comforts. I could not do it in a hotel.

2 weeks, otherwise you just get into the swing of it and it's time to go home.

We saved up leave to go 3 weeks for longhaul and decided we weren't going to do that again till we retire - it didn't leave enough leave for anything else.

We tend to go now for 9 or 10 days and usually leave on a Saturday and come back on a Friday/Saturday (where we live usually means an overnight after or before the holiday before a flight back to our home). Anyway I quite like at least a day at home before I go back to work.

I like a few 'fuck it' days in the year too if the weather is nice.

And I use every scrap of leave...

I think it depends what kind of job you do and how long you take to unwind.

I'm switched off by the time I leave work on Friday and one week, or even a long weekend is rejuvenative for me, by day 10 I'm ready to come home. Other people need the first few days to unwind and feel like they're on holiday.

All abroad.

2 x 1 week. I don’t like long holidays and would rather have two trips to look forward to.

Mum2jenny · 15/04/2025 21:29

1x10 day and 1 long weekend works better for me as I feel 7 days is not long enough and 14 days is too much.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 15/04/2025 21:30

We trying and maximise annual leave.

4 nights Feb
1 week over Easter
1 week June/july
1 week September
plus 3/nights over the bank holidays if we can.

long weekends are usually city breaks abroad

I always used to think you needed 2 weeks but I have changed. If your seven days
offer something really different from everyday life I think that two single weeks are more energising; for example a week skiing is a complete change or going somewhere completely new with a different language or travelling around a country for a week. If every day merges into the day before then I don’t think a week is enough to switch off.
