Disneyland Paris - hotel choice?

littleoldme3 · 15/07/2024 07:40

Can anyone give me a comparison between the Disneyland Hotel and Marvel Hotel?

We have Marvel booked half board for 4 nights/5 days and have also paid for 2 character dinning experiences. But could afford to upgrade to the Disneyland Hotel. Just wonder if the cost is justified? (I know that will vary between families!)

2 adults and 4yo. Huge Mickey fan so neither hotel theme is really a factor.

Obviously we’d be a little closer to the park if we upgraded and I believe we would get the character dinners included in our meal plan rather than paying a supplement? Is there characters at breakfast in the Disneyland Hotel?

Intentionally booked 4 nights/5 days (were there from opening on first day to about 2pm on day 5) we could have a bit of downtime and use the pool etc too so will use some hotel facilities and not be in the park the whole time.

Personally wouldn’t pay the price for the DLH - would rather do other things with that money.

Marvel is very plush but we spend next to no time in the hotel so even that wasn’t really worth it.

We stayed in Sequoia last month and I think it’s my favourite of the onsite hotels (haven’t stayed at Cheyenne). It’s a 10 min walk from the park entrance. Paid for the Royal Banquet which was lovely. Unless you only want character dining the DLH meal plan wouldn’t be good value.

We have been 8 times since DD was 3.5 years old. We’ll do DLH when it looks like she’s bored of it all. ;)

@ClevererThanMost Thank you 😊 We had actually intended to do Newport Bay as we felt the theming would be best for DS but the recent reviews have been pretty poor so we figured we’d give that a miss this time.

If read good things about Sequoia - particularly about how cosy it feels over winter so that’s definitely one that’s on my radar for future if we go again.

We’d happily do character dining each night if we stayed at DLH. The only restaurant any of us really wanted to try was Downtown (DH really fancied this one!) and it’s fully booked for our stay anyway (we go in March).

It’s been 10 years since I last visited (pre-kids) and have only ever stayed at Santa Fe so any tips and tricks you would be amazing! Particularly anything helpful with young kids! He’ll have not long turned 4 when we go. I’m planning on taking a buggy for him as I’d imagine he’ll struggle with the long days

Newport Bay gave me the rage. Our room was at the very end of the right hand wing as you look at it from the lake. Had to walk past to get into the hotel. Was 1000 steps from reception to the room which after 20k+ steps a day felt like an insult!

Definitely take a buggy. I had to force DD to nap at 3, 4 and 5 from memory (now a teenager who could sleep standing up if needed. 😂)

You should be able to get something at Downtown. They don’t release everything up front. Would be a waste of a DLH meal plan meal though.

Doseofreality · 15/07/2024 12:39

DLH is a very strange place, far to twee for me and full of childless adults pretending they are a Disney Princess.

@ClevererThanMost 😂 that definitely sounds annoying after a long day at the parks 😂

Yeah a buggy is a definite. He hasn’t napped since he was 20 months (😬) or used a buggy since he was 2.5 and is used to lots of walking as I don’t drive but I know he’ll do better with somewhere to rest 👍🏻

@Doseofreality I was a bit worried about this actually 😅 I want it to be the most magical place, not strange 🙈

It’s alright for a look around.

Go Marvel if you can. Loads to see, special Marvel character meets and the Skyline bar. They do try and get downtown bookings for residents too. I think you’ll all enjoy that more than DLH.

Pinkstanley · 15/07/2024 12:56

We only do DLP if I can get the DLH. Not been since the refurb but we love taking advantage of extra magic hours first thing then literally 20 steps out the park, back to the hotel for a really good breakfast while everyone else is just getting into the park and settled. We can get a few rides done first thing this way. We then go back in for parades and shops etc.

I would rather do the DLH for 2 nights than 3 or 4 elsewhere. The buffet breakfast at the DLH is fantastic or it certainly was pre refurb. Plus the DLH is a full hot buffet whereas the others were continental style. We liked that as no need for lunch.

They’re all hot now.

we have done the back for brunch thing at NPB and Marvel. It’s not worth DLH prices for that!

Pinkstanley · 15/07/2024 14:12

Oh that’s good they are all hot breakfasts. I’d still opt for the DLH though. Just my preference.

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:39

We've ajways booked Cheyenne

I wanted to book one of the ones with a pool one year so I called DLP to swap hotels and was told they were actually closing the pool for renovations so it was lucky I called direct

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:42

The great thing about the Disney hotels is the non stop mini bus that takes you there and back every 10 mins or so

Haven’t used it once in 8 trips. The hotels are very easily walkable.

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:46

@ClevererThanMost yes I'm sure they are but we preferred the buses to walking back in the dark late at night

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:49

There's no point doing the hotel breakfasts because you miss out on magic hour where you get in the park early so get on the rides you want

I'm not a fan of queues

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:53

There's a really good Micky mouse show experience at DLP so he'll get his fix there

No need for the character breakfasts

They have characters turning up at each hotel all the time to meet and greet and there are tons in the park itself

We did magic hour then back for brunch. 🤷🏻‍♀️

They’re only at certain times of day once per on-site hotel.

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:55

What's the point of that what a waste of time

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:57

Anyway everyone has their own way of doing things depending on ages of DC etc

You'll figure out what suits your family best OP

RookieMa · 15/07/2024 15:55

Several things.

The thought of eating at the equivalent of 6:30/7am makes us all feel sick. (Night owls).

Can get up later - particularly good if didn’t get back till midnight the night before.

Having a later breakfast means we don’t need lunch and can go through till dinner quite happily, saving money.

We aren’t going on rides with full stomachs being uncomfortable and risking throwing up on other Disney guests.

Takes us out of the park when it’s starting to get busy and we can use the pool or shop more easily.

Pinkstanley · 15/07/2024 19:37

ClevererThanMost · 15/07/2024 15:54

Each to their own. A benefit of why we like to stay at the DLH. Leave about 10.30, get into breakfast for 10.45 just before it shuts, sit for an hour and eat which also covers lunch and get back into the parks for just after 12. Usually in time for the first parades of the day.

DoAClassicCamel · 15/07/2024 20:13

We love the marvel hotel, we used to stay there when it was hotel NY too. We prefer it to Newport Bay where we stayed when the refurb was happening. Haven’t stayed at DLH as it hasn’t appealed to us. If you can afford to stay nearer why not go for it, you’ll definitely know then. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with was that you didn’t get Disney+ in the rooms unless you had it and streamed it to the tv. I’d have thought it would be included for the sake of the amount of time families are actually in the room.

littleoldme3 · 15/07/2024 22:43

Thanks everyone 😊 didn’t mean to cause a breakfast debate 😂 I think I’m just going to stick with what we have booked - Marvel hotel half board for 4 nights/5 days. Have booked the Royal Banquet one day for lunch and Plaza Gardens one night for dinner as our character meals then PYM kitchen for our Studios day and hoping to get into Downtown for our other meal but currently showing no availability 🤞🏼

@RookieMa - Does magic hour not start at 8.30? I was under the impression that breakfast was from 7am? Why would you miss magic hour? I hope it’s at 7am or I’m going to have one cranky kid 😂 7am is a late breakfast for him!
We won’t use the buses without a car seat for DS so not a huge selling point to us but I know some people who say they are the best after a long day on your feet 😊

Breakfast is 7-11 and magic hour is 8:30-9:30.

You’ll have a fabulous time. :)
