Anyone been Majorca in October?

I've just seen a good price for Majorca for the end of October but is it a bad idea weather wise? The kids will probably want to go in the pool will they even be open?

Could be lovely .Have been to mainland Spain in October half term and had 24c but islands are a bit different. Bit risky but could be lovely. Have a look at costa del sol.

RookieMa · 13/07/2024 22:02

The oools will be closed and freezing

It won't be nice as a beach holiday but will be nice as just a holiday with some warmth

Stressedoutmum27 · 13/07/2024 22:05

We went mid October last year. Weather was glorious for the week. Loads of pool time & still busy in the pools too. We loved it so much, were returning again this October.

Inyourwildestdreams · 13/07/2024 22:05

@juicyjellybaby - where abouts in Majorca? I believe a lot of things in smaller resorts may be finishing up around that time. I wouldn’t expect pool weather to be honest.

greengreyblue · 13/07/2024 22:09

Pools definitely won’t be freezing. They’ll have had the summer sun for months!

juicyjellybaby · 13/07/2024 22:18

@Inyourwildestdreams I was looking at Palma Nova but I think I will research it a bit more before I book anything

A lot of things will have closed at the end of September

circular2478 · 13/07/2024 22:21

I've been to southern Spain and the islands and of October. Weather has been beautiful, lovely to sunbathe but pools have all been very cold. Brave kids got in and must wouldn't. Go somewhere with a heated pool or the canaries.

Tharshe · 13/07/2024 22:24

I went 2 years ago and the weather was fantastic - really hot, but not that awful oppressive heat of July and August. Pools were a bit on the chilly side - but definitely in use. Ours was the last week of their season - but you'd never have known from the service and staff.

elrider · 13/07/2024 22:25

We went in October last year. Chose a hotel where kids clubs were still open, although it was their last week. The pools were pretty cold but just about manageable for all but the baby. Some could have been heated but none of the hotels seem to heat them until November even though they could use it in October. We had a bit of rain but nothing major. Just check the finer details of the hotels and locations you're looking at to make sure the things you want will still be open.

greengreyblue · 13/07/2024 22:38

We went in August and had rain!

greengreyblue · 13/07/2024 22:40

Try Seville. Beautiful city with lots to do. Warmer than most at that time- too hot in summer. We went in February and had 23c.

Flatwhite23 · 13/07/2024 22:40

I visited during half term last year so last few days in October running into first couple in November. We stayed in Pollenca town and Palma. Pollenca still had lots of visitors but only approximately 50% of bars:restaurants open. Palma was fully open and bustling. We drove all around the island and the tourist resorts were like ghost towns..shops and restaurants fully closed. Temperatures were approximately 20-22 daily. We thought it was wonderful but maybe not what you want if you have children.

Been to Cala Millor 2 years in a row at the end of October and it's been great everything still seemed to be open and weather was fantastic

Notquitegrownup2 · 13/07/2024 22:52

Cala Millor nicer than Palma Nova IME, though it is a while since I've been. I used to go to the Balearic s regularly in October half term and usually had good weather. The evenings get dark quite quickly but it's a great way to top up your vitamin d ahead of winter . . .

PeachyKeane · 13/07/2024 23:08

Often in October you get lovely weather, like a British summer temperature, the sea is nice and warm. But pools generally cold, try to get one that's got sn indoor heated one if you can just in case.

MillsAndBalloons · 13/07/2024 23:11

I regularly go to majorca in October ( including palma nova) and it's always been lovely. ☀ Defo hot enough to sunbathe but not too hot that you're uncomfortable.

samarrange · 14/07/2024 00:00

The sea will still be quite warm because it retains heat from the summer. The pools will be quite cold. There are only one or two heated outdoor pools in Majorca.

The season comes to an abrupt stop on the last Saturday in October, which this year is 26 October, so a lot depends on your exact dates. A lot of bars and restaurants close over that weekend.

The last two years have had really warm weather into November (27° highs). But this year is a little bit less hot overall, and the final 10 days of October can be stormy - certainly 6-hours-on-the-beach-type sun is not guaranteed. If you want that certainty go to the Canaries. Majorca is actually a brilliant place to visit in the autumn and winter, but your plan B needs to include walking and sightseeing in Palma, Soller, etc.

wellwhatcanisaytothat · 14/07/2024 08:30

Hit and miss

HolaSenorita · 14/07/2024 08:35

Exactly what @samarrange said.

I follow a YouTuber who regularly posts from Mallorca (she lives there) and she said that everything literally closes over-night on the last weekend in October.
You would need to be so careful with your dates, depending on when the weekend falls

As for weather, I believe it’s present but it’s always a risk

Needamagicfairy · 14/07/2024 08:41

We went last week of October, spent all week in the pools and sea it was beautiful weather. Everything was closing up the day we left which was the last weekend of the month

itispersonal · 14/07/2024 08:53

We went 2 years ago end of October to Cala dor weather was lovely, sea was nice but pools cold! But we were lucky - think if the weather isn't at great you might want a hotel with an indoor pool.

Hotel still had kids club open, shops / cafes / restaurants were still open, boat trips were still running. Think Cala dor were shutting from 1st November.

Pery · 14/07/2024 09:18

I once had a full week of rain in October in Mallorca so while I know it can be warm and sunny I wouldn't risk it again.
I was there first week of June this year, the pool was cold and we had rain and a cold wind. I was planning to return in September but I'm wondering now whether we need to be further south.

I've been to Calla Millor a couple of times and was thinking of Palma Nova next time. Partly for proximity to airport and partly because the beach looks fab. I like a busy resort.

ZittiEBuoni · 14/07/2024 09:20

I went in early November years ago and the pools were not in use. It was sunny but the temperatures were 17-18, not really beach weather. We still managed to enjoy ourselves though, but we were young adults, no kids. I probably wouldn't risk it with dc.

Edited

Outdoor pools most definitely can be cold - even at swim training camps kids have had to be pulled out to get warmed up.

Weather can be mixed - you might hit lucky and get warm sunshine, or you might be unlucky and get chilly rain.
