Yes, you can look on your phone. Just Google [airport name] departure boards.

SwedishEdith · 08/07/2024 22:09

Could you ask another passenger nearby? I know Ryanair's app shows the gate but it's not necessarily the right gate.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/07/2024 22:10

Can you ask another member of the public who is also looking at the departures board ? Are you at the airport at the moment ?

Irishmama100 · 08/07/2024 22:15

For most airports if you go to the airport website you can see the departures. Once you see your flight you select it and you get a message about whether you want live flight updates and if you say yes then these will be sent to your phone via messenger. I have added an imagine of a recent one I tracked.

Send the flight number to yourself via text. Open it, hold your finger on the number and click on preview flight and all the flight details, including boarding gate, comes up.

trust me this works

theeyeofdoe · 08/07/2024 22:40

if you’re partially sighted, the customer service staff will help you. Let them know that you need help and they will find a way to let you know.

if not, you need to go and have an eye exam and get some glasses.

I love the idea of this and have seen other people talk about it but it doesn't work for me.

I found this out by accident from a screenshot of flight details! It’s brilliant

TakeOnFlea · 08/07/2024 22:53

Most airlines have an app which shows live updates

Flute56 · 08/07/2024 22:54

Im not partially sighted but i have distance glasses which i will wear. They really should make those boards lower

OP posts:
SquishyGloopyBum · 09/07/2024 06:40

Which airport? Some restaurants in the airport have tv screens with the gates on which are lower.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/07/2024 06:44

Most airports have smaller, lower screens as well as the big board. I download the airports app, put in my flight details and it texts me the gate.

HoppingPavlova · 09/07/2024 06:56

Dare I say it but if you can’t read a flight board with your glasses, I’m hoping you don’t drive with/without them either! They are not so high that you shouldn’t be able to read them with suitable glasses prescribed by optometrist.

This is a bit ignorant. I wear glasses. My prescription is up to date but as Ive aged, particularly around peri menopause my eyesight has gone in the bin. I dont need different glass prescriptions, I just cant see a lot of the time. . Unless something is the right font, in front of me, lit up, nice and big, I cant make it out

You dont have to be partially sighted to have sight problems.

GinForBreakfast · 09/07/2024 07:44

Genuinely, this is such a non problem. Wear your glasses so you can see the board or ask someone next to you to read it for you.

Are you a particularly anxious person normally? How do you manage in day to day life?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/07/2024 07:47

Can you take a photo of the board and zoom in?

Airports and traveling can be very stressful for some people. No need to be so rude.

OP, depending on airline you may be able to get this information in an app. Otherwise, some airports have notifications you can sign up for, and for instance you get Whatsapp messages telling you all about your flight. Dublin airport offers this, so please do check the airports website.

LIZS · 09/07/2024 09:02

Google "Live Departures x airport" on your phone to find the airport website, the list should update in real time like the monitors. There will also be an information desk in the Departure Lounge where you can ask.

samarrange · 09/07/2024 10:42

Sometimes when I am in a situation where everyone else is more competent or experienced than me, I pretend that instead of something being hard for me, it's impossible. So for example in this case I might imagine that I was blind. At that point the solution becomes obvious (ask someone to look at the board for you).

Of course I have to overcome my "Very British" tendencies ("I don't want to bother people", "But I'm not actually blind, it would look pathetic"), but it's not taking advantage of people to ask them to help with your limitations occasionally. 🙏

SBHon · 09/07/2024 10:46

Another option is to take a photo of the board and zoom in on it.

I’m sorry but why would you not read it with your glasses on?

I think that last message about the driving was a bit rude because you have assumed that I drive without glasses I don't drive anyway but if I did I would wear glasses I'm a responsible adult anyway I know now to look on my phone and so I don't need to contribute to this thread anymore bye bye
