Some really ignorant and judgey people on this thread.

There are physical reasons some people with physical disabilities might not be able to look up, and you have no reason or basis from which to assume any of the OP’s circumstances wrt driving.

I do not have a physical disability it's just that I wasn't wearing my distance glasses so I couldn't see the board I will put my distance glasses on next time I am at an airport

Take a photo of the departure board and zoom in on your flight to see the gate.

I have never tried to read them with glasses

Why didn't you think of this very simple solution before asking how to get help? You have glasses so that you can see things more clearly. Just use them.

No, but PP were commenting without knowing exactly why you couldn't read the board. It could well have been a physical condition.

Anyway - good luck with your flight.

Hoppinggreen · 09/07/2024 13:11

Well it looks like you have found a solution, enjoy your holiday.
I have been standing in front of a board at the Airport several times and been asked by someone else to read it to them, I don't mind
Might be better to wear your glasses more often OP if your sight is so bad

Nope. After dealing with thousands of people over the years with this sort of stuff, I have learnt odds are it’s rarely ever NOT the easy and obvious solution. It’s more ‘strike me down with a feather’ when that’s not the case. Example in point.

Well that was an interesting conversation 🙄🤣

I have the flight tracker on my phone and my flight is at 6:20 but the boarding gauge is already showing on the tracker and I thought that the boarding Gate doesn't show up until 30 minutes before the flight so I do not understand why on my tracker the boarding gate is showing two hours prior to the flight because if I look on the boards at the airport it will not show any boarding Gate can someone please explain

Oh my !

Cardencallr · 13/07/2024 03:25

Don't worry about the tracker just now. Just check your gate when you get through security. All will be fine.

Cardencallr · 13/07/2024 03:27

It will either say - "Gate shown at ..." time in which case you need to wait till that time for the gate number to show on the screen or the screen will say "Go to gate X"

Edingril · 13/07/2024 03:42

There are people at check in desks at boarding gates to ask even ones that are not yours and information desks

There are people if you look for them to ask it doesn't need to be a long drawn out how many reasons to come up with to not get the answer

Lurkingandlearning · 13/07/2024 04:10

Not much help right now but I think you need glasses for distance reading. I didn’t realise that I did for a long time and they’ve made life much easier

Scissorsisters · 13/07/2024 06:57

Gatwick has 'Gail's the flight boy' who will update flight details via WhatsApp

Scissorsisters · 13/07/2024 06:58

Flight BOT not boy!

Too late now but for future reference usually (but not always) aircraft gates get assigned by controllers/operations several hours ahead of departure time.

Quite when that info is released to the general public and becomes visible to the various public apps and then the boards is as you’ve spotted, variable.

One problem with releasing gates to the public very early is it can cause confusion if there is a gate change, for whatever reason, after initial allocation, especially if people don’t recheck their app.

As a result it’s not unusual at many airports to only see the info on the boards 45-30 minutes before departure, when hopefully the gate plan is set in concrete.
