Where shall we go?

I have the opportunity to take adolescent dd away for a few days in the second half of July. Previously we have enjoyed Paris, Amsterdam and Copenhagen. We like food and history more than culture and shopping, though we like all of them.

Budget would be sharing a twin room in a budget hotel central to wherever we go.

Any suggestions?

trextape · 30/06/2024 16:02

id suggest seville but it will be debilitatingly hot

RosewoodBox · 30/06/2024 16:03

Berlin or Munich are both great for teens.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 30/06/2024 16:04

Florence

Dilbertian · 30/06/2024 16:09

I was going to respond, "not too hot", but then - Florence...

Consider visiting Lisbon, Portugal for its rich history and delicious food. Alternatively, Prague offers beautiful architecture and a storied past. Both cities have affordable central accommodations.

Fiery30 · 30/06/2024 16:37

Germany- Berlin, Munich, Cologne.

DCIJackieDeering · 30/06/2024 16:38

Another vote for Berlin

Apfelkuchen · 30/06/2024 16:39

Berlin if you love history, won’t be too hot either.

SabrinaThwaite · 30/06/2024 16:39

Hamburg is interesting too.

Dilbertian · 30/06/2024 20:46

Prague... last time I went there it was behind the Iron Curtain...

So difficult to choose!

Budapest is ideal

HappierTimesAhead · 30/06/2024 21:01

Lisbon!

trextape · 30/06/2024 21:02

would anyone recommend madrid?

Dilbertian · 30/06/2024 21:09

Lisbon is gorgeous, but we had a family holiday there and we want to go somewhere new.

Madrid is great, but very hot in July.

I'd also recommend Cologne or Bilbao.

SiobhanSharpe · 30/06/2024 21:10

Vienna?

SiobhanSharpe · 30/06/2024 21:17

Or northern Spain - Bilbao is a great city, lively and young with fantastic food (really fantastic) the Guggenheim, and many, many pinxto bars. It's a vibrant and civilised modern European city with much to do, lots of it outdoors.

Lokshen · 30/06/2024 21:18

Porto. Strasbourg. Lisbon. Nice (my favourite).

RomainesToBeSeen · 30/06/2024 21:21

Krakow for the history? Shouldn't be horribly hot and the food, when we went, was surprisingly good. Also good value.

PecanThePony · 30/06/2024 21:27

Budapest

MinnieMountain · 01/07/2024 06:15

Avignon. I had a lovely time there in April.

Travellingraspberry · 01/07/2024 06:53

Gibraltar

Perfectlystill · 01/07/2024 07:03

I found Madrid boring.

Vienna?
Scandi somewhere?
Valencia by the sea?

Perfectlystill · 01/07/2024 07:04

Just seen you are foodies. In that case I'd forget my previous suggestions and go to Italy and cope with the heat. Or the south of France.
