Somewhere in USA that's nice in October with short flight

DH has to work in Mexico in October and thinking about taking 2 x DS out to meet him after his trip and for us to have a weeks holiday.

Wondering where might fit the bill, any ideas?;

Requirements;

1 not too long flight (ie 8 hours ideal, 12 too long)
2 nice weather pretty guaranteed

  1. Things to do of interest, excursions etc
4 can be reachable from Mexico City as well as London easily 5 don't want all inclusive but love to have places to go out and eat/experience different nice food. Town etc

Lots of asks I know! Don't know USA at all so don't know where to start xx TIA

Should add we don't want to go to Mexico but meet somewhere in US which DH could join us at after his trip and we fly to from the UK. Reason for not choosing Mexico is flight is too long I think for 1
Week x

New York City has pretty good weather in October, it's an 8-hour flight from LHR, and there's all the sightseeing you would want. About 5-1/2 hours non-stop from Mexico.

Boston is also interesting. Decent weather in October, a slightly shorter flight than LHR-JFK and not as full-on as New York. There are non-stop flights from Mexico City; slightly longer flight than to NYC.

Have fun!

It's hurricane season in the Caribbean until November.

Hurricane season ends in October in Florida but still can be iffy.

runwithme · 22/06/2024 22:41

New Orleans?

EasterIssland · 22/06/2024 22:41

Florida ? Orlando area ?

tillytoodles1 · 22/06/2024 22:42

A friend said Boston is beautiful in the fall (autumn).

Infullbloomers · 22/06/2024 22:43

Depends when in October to catch the nice weather in the NE. Early October can be hellishly humid but freezing by the end…

Madamlulu · 22/06/2024 22:44

Loving these ideas thank you.

We have been to NYC before and Disney Florida.. not fancying Disney but something a bit different, not sure what so loving all the suggestions.

Carabean could be an option - but is it hurricane season over the whole carabean at that time?

Vermont or Maine - wonder what the temp is there? Will take a look x

Have family in Florida (not Orlando) not far from Miami, we've always only ever been in June or October. It's still lovely weather there in Oct.

RomainesToBeSeen · 22/06/2024 22:46

Does it have to be the US? Could Toronto be an option?

Mitsky · 22/06/2024 22:47

Boston / New England in the fall is absolutely stunning (I say that as an ex resident)

Toronto, imo, is boring. Montréal is more fun and interesting, but the weather in October can be wet and cold.

I don’t think MEX is too far for a week, and it’s got so much to see and do. The Mexican pyramids, the floating market etc. It can be a little rough, but if you have a nice hotel with pool and goid restaurants you could get trips out from there.

If not, East coast America, but further north. Flying to Florida etc is practically as far as Mexico. New York and Boston are good starts. Washington is another possibility- lots of great, child friendly museums plus the Capitol Hill monuments, plus good hotels that you could relax/sunbathe at too.

HeliotropeAlba · 22/06/2024 22:49

Charleston, South Carolina would be nice, but there are no direct flights from LHR. They cancelled them during COVID.

I was in Boston last October. It’s a beautiful city and the weather was good.
