DH has to work in Mexico in October and thinking about taking 2 x DS out to meet him after his trip and for us to have a weeks holiday.

Wondering where might fit the bill, any ideas?;

Requirements;

1 not too long flight (ie 8 hours ideal, 12 too long)
2 nice weather pretty guaranteed

  1. Things to do of interest, excursions etc
4 can be reachable from Mexico City as well as London easily 5 don't want all inclusive but love to have places to go out and eat/experience different nice food. Town etc

Lots of asks I know! Don't know USA at all so don't know where to start xx TIA

NYC/DC/Boston would all get my vote.

We went to Barbados at Easter and loved it. The flight was only 7 hours coming back due to winds and it was one of the nicest places I've been to. Beautiful beaches, crystal clear sea for snorkelling, easy to hire a car to go round the island and very safe and welcoming.

It may be technically be in the hurricane belt but I think they're very rare from what the locals said. Whether it's a higher rainfall season, I don't know.

Does it have to be the US? Could Toronto be an option?

Toronto will be below zero by the end of October.

Boston…then take a trip up to Salem MA for the Halloween festivities.

its the largest Halloween event in the world apparently…just expect big crowds on weekends and dont try to drive there, the train is best.

Second New England. Foliage will be at its peak a bit north of Boston and Fall is really the season to go. Still ok temps in the day but you'd need a jacket in the evening. It is also what many people think of when thinking of historic USA, like how Americans think of the Cotswolds as typical English countryside and villages (thanks to programs like Midsomer Murders etc).

I know it's a bit further flight than I specified but curious about LA. What would the temp be like in October? The kids would love all the film stuff

Miami or Key West are fabulous at that time of year.

Lovely in October in LA. Not sunbathing but sunny and bright.

elm26 · 24/06/2024 21:04

@Madamlulu the keys are beautiful, if you want a bit further out, marco island is lovely too x

Just looking at Key west now but it seems you can't fly there easily from London. Is that correct?

Carabean could be an option - but is it hurricane season over the whole carabean at that time?

Yes, the whole Caribbean. Hurricane season starts 1 June and ends 30 November- peak season is Aug/Sept although it's a strong season this year as ocean temps barely dropped over winter.

We live in Caribbean and are heading to Asheville, North Carolina for Christmas, it's a huge hit with people here, many return year on year in all seasons.

Boston and Vermont? Trees are glorious in October.

Or, for something different and warmer - fly to Atlanta, visit the Coca Cola museum and then head to Savannah and Tybee?
