Do you post pictures of your hols on SM?

travelmadmum23 · 17/05/2024 21:42

Just this really, do you post pics once you are home? Do you not bother?

I like to document my travels via SM and blogging but this year I am hesitant as it has caused some tension within the wider family.

Hubby says - don't bother
I say - why shouldn't we post the occasional pic (not in a braggy way or anything)

OP posts:

It's complete bragging at worst and seeking validation at best.

So what is acceptable to post on your own wall on social media?

scrivette · 17/05/2024 22:43

I usually do, but as I only go away in England and am usually camping I don't think it would be seen as bragging as loads of my friends hate camping and prefer holidays abroad!

Ineedaholidayyyy · 17/05/2024 22:48

Yes , I don't post hundreds of photos though, just a few. It's an easy way for me to access the photos and look back on memories.

I love seeing people's holiday photos too, i don't see them as bragging or attention seeking. Also, sometimes I'll be inspired as I'll see photos from somewhere I'd never have considered or heard of before.

Pontipinecity · 17/05/2024 22:51

If you go away once or twice a year it’s fine. If you go abroad 8 times a year like one of my friends and post 50 photos every time it’s not fine.

notanotherrokabag · 17/05/2024 22:52

No. I find it pathetic when others do.

KateMiskin · 17/05/2024 22:52

No. It makes people envious. I send some pix to my mum and sis.

BrieHugger · 17/05/2024 22:57

I absolutely love seeing other people’s holiday photos, and yes I do post a couple of mine while away. I add a whole album when I get back but generally limit them so they’re only viewable by close friends and family.

You have to be a special kind of miserable to not enjoy seeing your mates having fun and being happy!

No I do t because it is bragging though isn't it. Why else would you post it ? Because you want others to see Keep pictures private for goodness sake it's cringe

I use fb as a diary, so I do post photos. I also like looking at other people’s travel photos, especially as a lot of my friends are into hiking and water sports like I am. I get inspiration for breaks in the future.

I don’t really look at cruise photos, or AI beach resort holiday pics, because they aren’t of much interest to me, but I’m more than happy to simply scroll past.

OMGitsnotgood · 17/05/2024 23:01

I'm intrigued to what people post on social media if they find holiday photos 'cringe' or boasting? Same could be said about most things people post?

Whatdoyouexpecthonestly · 17/05/2024 23:01

Like hell I do! I only go overseas about once every 5 years or so and you can bet I'm going to show everyone! 😄

I don't really mind if others post- and I have left FB anyway- but I have to say a lot of people are a special kind of miserable now, so I say very little about my travels to people.

mollyfolk · 17/05/2024 23:05

I used to like the “diary” side of Instagram and I’d posted loads of photos when the kids were small. We have friends & family in another country so it’s an easy way to keep in touch. I would have definitely posted a photo of our hols in the past.

I’ve started to think a lot more about our kids digital footprint and how they have a right to create their own basically so i stopped. But still throughly enjoying other people’s holidays on social media. I’m happy they are happy. Holidays are lovely memory making moments and people want to share.

I don't think it's bragging. I love seeing my friends' holiday pictures.

transformandriseup · 17/05/2024 23:10

I usually post some photos at the end of a holiday. I like seeing friends holidays photos to get inspiration for future holidays. I don't think it's bragging to post photos.

MermaidMummy06 · 17/05/2024 23:14

I put up a couple of pictures of the kids or family shots in nice places, once we're home, but that's it. It's more to say hey, we're still here more than anything else.

I sometimes wonder if the prolific posters , of 20+ photos a day, get more pleasure out of the posting, comments & likes than the holiday itself.

EllaPaella · 17/05/2024 23:16

Why post anything on social media if that's how you feel? Literally what's the point on being on SM if everything people post offends you or you perceive it as bragging? I love seeing my friends holiday pics whether they post on SM or whats app; I'm glad they're enjoying themselves and I love hearing about peoples travels - it often inspires me to go somewhere new.

Intothevalley · 17/05/2024 23:16

Not specifically, but every month or so I post a handful of photos and tag my parents, parents in law, siblings and sister in law. It's just a way to share goings on. Both my FB and IG accounts are locked down.

LumiB · 17/05/2024 23:17

Yes but my insta is private. I love seeing posts from my friends and family whether its day to day stuff or holiday snaps.

ShanghaiDiva · 17/05/2024 23:23

I love holiday photos on social media.

2chocolateoranges · 17/05/2024 23:25

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/05/2024 22:37

I do. I use Facebook like a digital diary.

I enjoy seeing my friends and family travel photos.

I only have real friends and family on Facebook so none of the braggy nonsense that seems to distress those with 100s of FB friends.

Same here, I have very few friends on it.

I use it as a memory diary for me , love Facebook memories.

if you don’t want to see my photos then defriend me. I also defriend people who don’t comment or like photos , posts etc , they are just nosey !

I post about books I read, or architecture/art I see. I have gone for pretentiousness over "boasting"😁

longdistanceclaraclara · 17/05/2024 23:25

15 years ago yes, not since WhatsApp evolved, no need to.

OMGitsnotgood · 17/05/2024 23:31

But that's still a kind of boasting in a 'look how intellectual I am'. sort of way. Not that I would read your posts like that, but it could be interpreted like that, just as people are judging those who post holiday photos.

Fluffyhoglets · 17/05/2024 23:32

Yes - it's where alot of my older family members can see what we're doing. And if people think I'm bragging then they aren't really freinds then.
I'm happy to see other people's pictures and know they are having a good time.
Social media would be very dull if no one posted pictures!

lavenderlou · 17/05/2024 23:34

No, I don't think they are interesting to anyone but the people who were on the holiday. It's the social media equivalent of the 1970s slide show.
