How to ask for a seat belt extension?

BusyCM · 05/05/2024 09:07

I'm really embarrassed so please no telling me I should lose weight....I know that.

But when we go on holiday this summer I am dreading needing a seat belt extension. When, who, where should I ask for this?

Thank you.

I don't understand the big deal?

Just ask the crew OP when you're boarding?

I will, thank you.

This turning into a cancel the cheque situation so I will leave it here thanks everyone.

Enjoy the sunshine 🌞

I don't understand the big deal?

It is a big deal for a lot people, my friend hasn’t been abroad since before Covid because of this reason. She said it’s the shame and embarrassment, I’ve reassured her that if anyone does overhear the request nobody takes any notice. People have their own stuff going on, trying to relax, hoping the DC don’t kick off, where to put the hand luggage, who gets the window seat etc?

I just bought my own and took it with me.

Don’t buy your own because they’ll make you swap to theirs if they spot it so not only is it a waste of money, it also risks making a scene. The crew will be at the door when you board so just ask them and they’ll bring it to you. No big deal.

I used my own. I just discretely attached it.

I'll add that I'm larger than you OP, and my weight is all on my arse and thighs (I've got quite a small waist in comparison) and I have in the past managed to get a Ryanair belt to work without the extender but it was effing uncomfortable and so now I'll ask instead as I quite like my legs still being attached to my circulation when we land.

You aske them from the flight attendant before take off, they gave a couple out last time I flew as they gave me the special belt for my baby.

I'm a 20/22 but carry all my weight on my bottom half. Fingers crossed I don't buy if I do then so be it. I feel more prepared knowing what will happen etc.

I am also very tall and all my is around my middle too. I was ok with Jet2 at a size 22 so maybe depends on airline too.

Enjoy your hols Op.

@BusyCM I hope your flight was drama free and you had a lovely holiday

The length of each seatbelt can be different because if they fray they can just cut a section off. So whether if fits or not can be the luck of the draw.

I hope you have a lovely holiday.

Ah, that's interesting because last time I flew I found the standard belt really short and I had a 'shit have I really got that big' moment, but it was more that I'm a size 16 but I was flying with a friend who was actually flying for the first time ever and I was worried that she would get upset if her belt was too short as she's probably an 18/20, but they both did up (just Blush) but on the way back the belts were quite a bit longer so maybe on the way out the belts were shorter than normal.

I had one earlier on this year as I was flying with my young baby. The cabin crew meet you as you board the plane and you can quietly ask for one. It’s not humiliating at all, I can’t say I know anyone who would turn their head at someone needing a seatbelt extender, everyone will be too busy finding their seats and getting ready for some sunshine! Have a good holiday OP.

BusyCM · 23/09/2024 09:10

I should have updated.

I didn't need an extender. It was close but I
it just about fItted. And I had a lovely holiday thank-you.
