Airport Lounges?

NotmySundaybest · 29/04/2024 16:42

Does anyone prefer to book these or just go to Spoons?
We did an airport lounge last year for the first time. Quite overpriced but nice to have space so torn.

I only use them when I get them for free. I think they’re vastly over priced

Changingplace · 29/04/2024 16:43

If we’re doing a long flight, outside of Europe we’ll often do the lounge, some are definitely better than others! DH can often get a discount with his work that makes it worth while.

Neither, we get a coffee/food from Pret and look for a row of seats and settle down.

thanKyouaIMee · 29/04/2024 19:47

We like them, it feels much calmer than the regular parts of the airport tbh. But we get them for free with either the flight or credit card benefits.

CoCoBeeBee · 29/04/2024 19:50

We always aim to use them. Either using the priority pass via AMEX card or just paying for them

when we have not used them we have been caught in very long queues waiting to get into the bars/resturants,

we eventually gave up and got a WH Smith meal deal

i like that I am guaranteed a seat a drink and food in a calm environment proper start to my holiday!

Last flight was early morning and we just went to Pure . It's so healthy it puts a lot of people off but means you can easily get a seat with a power socket while you sip your coffee for 45 mins

ABwithAnItch · 29/04/2024 19:55

I think most likely of the ones that are bookable have really done downhill. Last one I went to had sticky tables, torn seats and you had to leave if you needed the bathroom. It was totally full and hardly relaxing. They are overrated imho

SkaneTos · 29/04/2024 19:57

I have never been in an airport lounge, and I will probably never be able to afford it.

mitogoshi · 29/04/2024 19:59

Never book one (have only used due to points or whatever) usually go to pretty at Heathrow or similar elsewhere. I personally limit my time at the airport

InTheRainOnATrain · 29/04/2024 20:02

Get them free with my amex. The centurion lounges are pretty nice. The rest aren’t worth it for food or surroundings but if you have a PM flight and want to get tipsy then may as well get the booze for free.

Edited

They are like £30 in the Uk.

Ginmonkeyagain · 30/04/2024 12:59

I never seem to turn up early enough for a flight to do anything other tham standing in the various check in and security queues. 🫣

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 30/04/2024 13:17

Might use one later in the year when i have a 4pm flight as anticipating the airport bars etc being very busy!

TruthorDie · 30/04/2024 13:18

Love them! I get peopled out quite quickly so l find them helpful. Plus lm a glutton so get my moneys worth in food. I still think about the Dim Sum l had in the Cathay Pacific lounge, at Heathrow Airport

Peonies12 · 30/04/2024 13:21

I’ve never used one and have travelled a lot. Rarely arrive early enough to do more than go through security and go to the gate

lightsandtunnels · 30/04/2024 13:27

Yes I think they're great especially for long haul so you have space and time to relax properly - I also like how you can get through security quickly too. Definitely worth the money if you're hungry too as the food is usually great. Used a lounge for a shorter flight and we were only in it for 40 minutes so but for me and my DH as we like quiet and a comfy seat it's worth it.

TennisLady · 30/04/2024 13:28

An actual airline lounge then yes. The paid for ones, no. I've been in some as had the priority pass through my AMEX and glad I didn't pay.

chocolatecheesecake · 30/04/2024 13:29

Definitely been worth it when waiting for a connecting flight but not otherwise

RomeoRivers · 30/04/2024 16:59

We get them free and really enjoy them. I like the Aspire ones.

mummyofhyperDD · 30/04/2024 17:04

Only ever used them when much younger - in my 20s we would go on holidays as a big group of friends - generally going to Heathrow straight from the office on a city break and we'd start our "after work" drinks in the lounge . Which is why I avoid them now , most if the ones you can pay £30 for are full of people getting their money's worth - which is fine , I'm at a different stage of life now

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/05/2024 21:59

I had a peep into one of the lounges at Birmingham the other day and there were young kids running round . Yes I understand they are excited etc but can't imagine anyone would be over the moon if they had paid expecting peace and quiet .

We always go to spoons if there's time and space .

BuckFadger · 02/05/2024 22:01

I have been to a couple. The only benefit I find is sometimes they are a lot quieter than the main pub. The problem is you do not know if that's the case until you get there.

TheChosenTwo · 02/05/2024 22:02

Dh and I book one when it’s just the 2 of us as it’s generally somewhere to sit and have a few drinks and decompress for a bit before the flight.
when it’s the 5 of us it’s not worth it to us, we would find a restaurant and have something to eat and then the girls and we will get a bit of shopping if needed.

Favouritefruits · 02/05/2024 22:03

With children I always book the airport lounge, a guaranteed seat, food and no wondering around duty Free for expensive novelty items! If I didn’t have children I’d be happy enough sitting at a cafe!
