Airport Lounges?

Does anyone prefer to book these or just go to Spoons?
We did an airport lounge last year for the first time. Quite overpriced but nice to have space so torn.

I used one in Gatwick recently, the space/offering was nice but it was crowded and difficult to find a seat.

It depends where you want to fly from/to. When I get travel insurance through my bank we get 6 free passes/year.

We only tend to use them for overnight flights. The London lounges tend to quieten down after Emirates flights have called a gate.

You need to look at departures for your day/terminal and conclude what you wish.

Overnighting home, I'd happily pay for a lounge with showers after a day out sightseeing/sitting on a beach. Again, we usually get direct flights home to UK/France, which tend to be the last ones out.

For a <4 hour hop; I wouldn't bother

A BA frequent flyer here and they're quite nice. I like the bubbly, the British breakfast (don't live in the UK anymore and fly back home from Heathrow) and the lunchtime sandwiches! Often sneak a couple of cans of beer out onto the plane itself..

For us it's a chance to relax and reflect on what has been a lovely holiday, usually. We're equally as happy at a 'Spoons or elsewhere if flying to other destination from Gatwick or elsewhere. British airports are really good compared with others, I find.

I had a peep into one of the lounges at Birmingham the other day and there were young kids running round . Yes I understand they are excited etc but can't imagine anyone would be over the moon if they had paid expecting peace and quiet .

We always go to spoons if there's time and space .

I was in the No 1 lounge at Birmingham today. The one near WH Smiths and the toilets. It was quite awful. The music was very loud. Luckily I always travel with earplugs. And I was very grateful for them.
Groups of people scream talking - partly because the music was so loud. Children running around. The food was really unappetizing looking.
the staff were lovely, the drinks were good. Comfy seats. But so loud that I left early. The airport was quieter.

@Autumcolors - yes - that was the one - I was heading toward the toilets .

For an early morning flight I like them, as I will eat a huge breakfast. I can't cope with the hordes of people and queuing and trying to find a seat etc... that early in the morning it stresses me out. I've only ever used a lounge on outbound flights though never inbound which tend to be a much later flight.

there Is a huge difference between the airlines own lounges and the lounges that you can pay to access though.
