After a pretty rubbish year I’d like to take my kids away mid June somewhere nice. Always pretty much camped before so no idea really where to start. Budget about £3.5-4K. We just need to relax but for the teens particularly that would mean access to beach, pool, maybe some sporty bits. Maybe one of the aparthotel type places so we have our own space but I’d really like AI as the teens don’t stop eating!! Can anyone recommend somewhere or tell me if my budget isn’t going to stretch. Definitely needs to be warm enough to swim. Thanks

Have you looked at Turkey or Egypt? Your budget will stretch further there? What’s your closest airport?

CissOff · 27/04/2024 11:04

I would look at Turkey. There’s a few resorts that have bungalows or small villas, that are AI. So the best of both worlds.

Sorry closest airports are London but happy to go to East Midlands etc for the right holiday

I would look at Turkey too.

Jet2 are good because they include luggage and transfers in cost of holiday!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 27/04/2024 11:08

Friend of mine recommended Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, which i believe is all priced as not a huge tourist spot yet

KittensSchmittens · 27/04/2024 11:10

Canaries Islands AI in 4* hotel cost £5500 for 2 adults and 2 children for 9 days. The food was surprisingly shit for what I thought was a lot of money. Hotel was absolutely packed. The clientele were a bit rough too if I'm honest (swearing at their kids, drinking at breakfast time, no queuing skills). I dont know how much you have to spend these days to get something better.

You could stay in a 2 bed family maisonette at Swandor Hotels And Resorts Topkapi Palace with flights from East Mids on 10th June for just over 3k.

Transfers are cheap - we’ve paid £70 for a return transfer each way to a nearby hotel.

CissOff · 27/04/2024 11:24

Or this for £2.5k in a 2 bed family room.

Turkey is so much better for having family rooms than anywhere else I’ve been. I can’t share with my DC, we’d kill each other 🫣

Hmm maybe I need to reevaluate then. Maybe somewhere with really easy plentiful local restaurants that is self catering?

You will definitely find something decent in Turkey. Look at TUI AI offers. With teenagers I wouldn’t eat out every day.

CornishPorsche · 27/04/2024 11:38

Your 16yo may be counted as an adult.... So 3 rooms, 3 adults, 1 child (so you and 18yo can have your own rooms) is doable in AI in Turkey.
Have a look at EasyJet.

We have had a couple of brilliant AI holidays in Mexico, they usually have a team of people arranging sports and other activities which can keep people entertained.

Only book 4 stars and above in Turkey though. But your budget will definitely stretch to AI in a nice resort.

Ah thank you. They look promising. I think I’d only need two rooms as I can share with the 11 year old and the 16and 18 year old can share.

are the Tui ratings quite accurate?

They usually are. Read all the tripadvisor reviews too. I like AI that have a choice of restaurants so check that you can eat at different ones and not only the buffet one. Magic life clubs are usually nice and offer lots of sports too. Stayed in lovely ones in Turkey.

Heard great things about this one in Calabria (Italy)

Holymolylemon · 27/04/2024 13:56

Thanks I’ll have a look. For some reason hadn’t considered that Italy would be warm enough for sea in mid June but don’t know why I thought that!!

OP posts:
WhatWouldYouDo33 · 27/04/2024 14:00

Southern Italy should be warm enough in mid June. Calabria is very South close to Sicily. We have been in the sea end of May before. Generally Italy does not have many AI resorts, they are more popular in Spain and Greece for example.

you could also check Dubai if you don’t mind (a lot of hate for Dubai on here). Dubai will definitely be very hot.

Favouritefruits · 27/04/2024 17:12

Barcelo active resort Lanzarote, it’s full of sports and activities to keep the teens entertained, 8 restaurants and 10 pools I think! It’s in a quiet area but a 20min walk to Tegise!

Amx · 27/04/2024 17:17

Sunny beach is an absolute shit hole. Don't go there.

Some nice all inclusive sun Greece for about £4K for 4 of you.

ohthejoys21 · 27/04/2024 18:51

A cruise? Very sociable your teens would probably like it. Not sure you would though!
