I’m returning the slightly larger case and ordering the smaller one. I fly Ryanair as they fly from and to where I want to go. It’s a big investment so I don’t want to be stressing each trip.

I don’t check bags into the hold unless I’m flying long haul and it’s free then anyway

I'd do the same and not chance it. Ryan air are so clear about their luggage restrictions but people still get mad at them for being too strict! It's not Ryan airs fault if people are pushing their luck.
