Where is like the Caribbean but unspoilt?

Have travelled the Caribbean extensively and whilst there are some gorgeous areas and islands that are unspoilt without lots of chain hotels, much of it seems overpopulated when you’re looking for a natural tropical paradise.

Where is like the Caribbean but is not the Caribbean? Mauritius looks over developed

I like Dominica - I haven't been there for about 8 years though. There are some nice small islands - British Virgin Islands spring to mind. Although you have probably been to these already!

Out Islands of the Bahamas such as Exuma, Cat, Ábacos etc. Amazing beaches and wildlife and not a single sun lounger on a beach that we ever saw.
Easy to get to via Nassau, drive on the left so it’s easy to hire a car and drive everywhere,, friendly locals, hire a villa and shop at the local shops.

Forgot to say, yes it’s still the Caribbean but many people only think of the likes of Atlantis and Nassau when talk of the Bahamas but there’s dozens of small islands that still have the untouched paradise feel to them.

For me I quite like the look of the Cape Verde Islands .. beautiful stretch of beaches and a handful of small bars and restaurants. You can island hop and each island is different! If traveling from the UK it's around 5/6 hours.
Slightly different and less flying time is the Azores - again each very different but not exactly for beach lovers 😊

Zanzibar

New Guinea

Chickpeamasala · 30/03/2024 16:05

Cuba. Only very small areas of tourist development and big island with lots of unspoiled parts.

Be aware that you are not eligible for an ESTA to the USA if you go to Cuba now, you have to attend an in person appointment and pay lots more ££ if you want a US visa.

I don't know the answer to the question but would love to! Warm seas are key for me too so anywhere in the Atlantic is out. I've yet to test out the Pacific islands & have high hopes.

Zanzibar, or the Maldives.

WhatWouldYouDo25 · 30/03/2024 18:22

Maldives if you chose the right resort or stay on an island with locals in a boutique guest house.

Philippines

My mother was a globetrotter and I think her favourite ever holiday was to Costa Rica?

SophiaElise · 30/03/2024 18:27

Seychelles?

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/03/2024 18:29

The little Caribbean islands. Corn Islands and similar.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/03/2024 18:30

And I fancy Saba and Suriname, but I've never been.

Cloverforever · 30/03/2024 18:32

Maybe not what you are looking for, but Sardinia is quite unspoilt, rugged and beautiful.

Also my favourite place I've been to. That's if you like wildlife, beautiful landscapes and plenty to see.

Seychelles?

I thought that, particularly on the small private islands.
We once stayed on bird sanctuary island that was amazing and very barefoot.

Giraffe62 · 30/03/2024 18:52

Belize. Very unspoilt, green a and very little tourist development

backinthebox · 30/03/2024 18:57

The only place that is going to feel like the Caribbean is the Caribbean. Go to one of the islands that is not overrun by tourists. There are over 700 islands, after all. Or even find a bit of an island that is less developed. There are a lot of other places I could suggest for a holiday if you want something where there are not many other tourists, but you’d have to say what it is about the Caribbean that you like that you are looking for.

ashiningbeaconinspace · 30/03/2024 19:01

If you want unspoilt then I would recommend Kere Island in the Bissagos Islands. Small island with just the hotel on it and nothing else!

Maybe not what you are looking for, but Sardinia is quite unspoilt, rugged and beautiful.

And overcrowded and massively expensive in the summer.

Littlefish · 30/03/2024 19:35

The Cook Islands. The most beautiful place I've ever been. It's a horribly long way though.

Cuba. Only very small areas of tourist development and big island with lots of unspoiled parts.

I was going to say Cuba. Avoid the Varedero area with its international hotels.
