Ahh help . 4 of us ( friends ) have decided to get some winter sun feb / march next year but there are differing needs and we are at a loss as to where to go .

Needs - one person cannot walk far and wants to relax by a pool with cocktails and a book . Hotel or apartment in a hotel is preferred for pool , evening entertainment.
- sights and experiences locally or excursions for two people that don't want to spend a week by a pool and enjoy exploring
- warm enough to enjoy being outside .
- a weeks stay at a cost of £600 - £800 .

Are we looking for the impossible or Has anyone stayed anywhere suitable that they could recommend ?

Tenerife! If you stay in one of the bigger resorts in the south, it’s pretty much a paved promenade that links them all - ideal for the less mobile friend. Plenty of hotels for relaxing, cocktails etc. There is the volcano for hiking and exploring, as well as numerous water sports, boat trips, food/wine tours. Loro Parque is a good day out, whatever your age! Weather great all year round. Lovely beaches. Short flight. An easy holiday.

I have my eye on this place: https://m.siranthonyhotel.com/en/

Thankyou . I looked at the canaries but it said the daytime temp was about 18 which is a bit too cold . Alright for those exploring but not perhaps for sunbathing by a pool.

Not many places will be warm in Feb/March unless you dis some where like Egypt or long haul OP. Can you travel in May? Or September

m00rfarm · 18/03/2024 19:11

We had 18-20 degrees on and off in February and March in the Algarve, but you certainly cannot guarantee it anywhere in Europe that time of year. You will have to go much further afield, and the cost will be significantly higher.

coxesorangepippin · 18/03/2024 19:11

Canaries

Shouldbedoing · 18/03/2024 19:34

Madeira?

PickledPurplePickle · 18/03/2024 19:37

Malta or Madeira

forgotname · 18/03/2024 19:38

Morocco - Marrakech or Agadir.
Warm weather, nice food, big resorts or smaller riads and culture

My preference would be Marrakech

Jones3A · 18/03/2024 19:38

I think you'd have to go long haul to guarantee proper heat, which will take you way over budget.

mitogoshi · 18/03/2024 19:40

Canaries are the only option in budget but temps not going to be that high 21-23 ish. Make sure the pool is heated! Tenerife is a great option as plenty of activities, good bus service but plenty of reasonably priced ai hotels.

Someaddedsugar · 18/03/2024 19:42

We had 25 degrees in Feb half term in Gran Canaria last year @hattie43.

samarrange · 18/03/2024 20:50

Cape Verde might work if 20-22° in the Canaries isn't going to be enough. But realistically, guaranteed hot sun in February costs money and needs at least a 4-hour flight. Certainly nowhere in the Mediterranean can guarantee that you will be able to lie by the pool every day.

LipstickLil · 19/03/2024 09:56

The first three are all doable, but the last is the thing that makes me think you'll struggle. £600-800 is a very low budget these days and if you want hot enough to lie by a pool in Feb-Mar then you're looking at long haul really.

I've been to the Canaries at new year and at Easter and it's low 20s, at best. Madeira is typically a degree or two cooler. If your budget is really that low I think your only hope will be somewhere like Egypt (Red Sea), maybe Cape Verde, otherwise you're looking at Dubai/UAE. See if you can get a cheap package, if you can, but nowhere in Europe is going to be reliably warm enough at that time of year for what you want.

hattie43 · 19/03/2024 16:12

Thankyou all for your suggestions.

I think it's going to be difficult meeting the need for heat in February without going further afield and increasing the budget . I'm personally edging towards Cape Verde but not sure there would be enough to explore for those who want excursions.

Lots of research and discussion needed I think .

Malaga is lovely and can get hot (t-shirt hot) in February. Though you'll need a coat at night. There's loads to do, museums, trips, excursions and the food is great.

BarrelOfOtters · 19/03/2024 16:40

It is possible to do Caribbean for a bit more but there might not be enough to do to be honest...

Miami?

Portu · 19/03/2024 16:48

Somewhere in the Gulf would work, get a Turkish Airlines deal to Doha or similar. It wouldn't be jewel encrusted luxury, more a Hilton type place, but can be done for £700/800.

pumpkinpiee · 19/03/2024 16:54

Definitely Marrakech! We stayed in an all inclusive resort that included a free shuttle bus into the medina/souks which would be perfect for the two who would like to explore

Vanillalime · 19/03/2024 22:08

I went on a cruise to the Caribbean for a week with Marella.
Flights, accommodation, all food & drinks included & cost £1k per person.
Weather was lovely too.

This would allow your friend to lay at the pool while others go sightseeing during the day.

Ive also been to Florida for a week in January and flights and hotel cost around £600 per person. But it’s pricey for food & entertainment.

Hashtag1 · 19/03/2024 22:24

Marrakesh definitely!

BonnyBo · 19/03/2024 22:26

Marrakesh! We just went a month ago and it was 30 degrees

Haha we went to Malaga 4 weeks ago and lovely as it is we realised we wanted it a bit hotter .

We’ve been to Tenerife for the last few years in Feb and always been warm enough for sunbathing. This year was the best yet, mid 20’s every day. Worth the gamble.

I would expect it to be warmer than this as an average for the canaries TBH - that is a February average high temperature for southern Spain . There is probably a difference between the islands though - check out which is more southern .
