I’m having a few mini holidays over the next few months and have seen various adverts on social media for travel accessories / things that make travel easier / more stylish / more practical .
what have you bought recently that’s really enhanced your travel experience or make it more fun / easier to travel ?

@JaceLancs is that fan just to go in the car for UK holidays or do you put it in your case when you go abroad ?

JaceLancs · 12/04/2024 19:12

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea I take it on holiday in my case - but do usually have 20-22kg baggage allowance
Last time DD and I went away we took one each!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/04/2024 19:19

Thanks. I'm going to order one . We normally have aircon when we go abroad but thinking it would be really useful on a coach holiday I'm going on with my friend.

I always take these if going somewhere hot .. helps me drink plenty of water and doesn't take up much room in case

Not stylish recommendations but...

Multi usb charger with various cables
Cross body bag
Tea bags

Are you me?!

These are my essentials too

Overtheatlantic · 12/04/2024 20:55

Why do people take tea bags? I’m not British btw.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/04/2024 20:59

I'm a seasoned traveller. My top picks are:

A small (cell phone sized) cross body bag.
Hand fan.
Smell Water proof laundry bag.
Packing cubes.
Hanky.

My don't waste your money picks are:

Overly technical shoes. If you're wandering around a city, Vans are better than hiking shoes.
Any silly document folders.
Covers for things that don't need covers.
Adaptors in Asia. Just buy cheap local chargers.

I always take tea bags. I know it's a sad British affliction but I'd give up alcohol before my morning cup of tea.

The tea bags are the least embarrassing part of my addiction though - sometimes I resort to taking a travel kettle and try to buy fresh milk when I arrive.

Because the tea in other countries often pretty horrible.

I got a great hang-up wash bag, which has fold out sections so I can separate my toiletries and not have to put it down on the wet washbasin.
I also have 2 patterned dress/smock things from H&M which do anything anywhere-nightie, over bikini, jaunt into town, smart dinner with a belt. I'm going to buy a other one in this year's colour!
I also treat myself to a new pair of Primark 80p flipflops for each holiday and leave them behind.....

artfuldodgerjack · 12/04/2024 22:21

Travel sink plug. Always handy if you want to wash your undies, or even wash your face!

abbey44 · 12/04/2024 23:23

Oh lord, sorry about the length of that link 😳

Yes, I really wished I had one of these on our last holiday.

Passport
Phone
Credit card.

@blue345 I'm worse than you - I take an extra milk sachet from the plane so I can make a cuppa as soon as I get into my apartment !

On our next trip it's likely we will arrive after the shops have closed and I'm wondering whether it's ill advised to take powered milk in my suitcase.

GoogleWhacking · 13/04/2024 18:14

A 4 way extension plug and an adapter for the country I'm going to.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 13/04/2024 18:14

I always take two purses - one with English, one with local currency and just swap my cards into the local one when I arrive .

This is a top idea. I also horde a jug of fresh milk from hotel breakfasts (with permission) and I'm picky about having a ceramic/china (rather than metal) on the go mug for my tea. Do you think we're possibly feeding the British stereotype of strangely obsessive tea drinkers....?

I probably shouldn't admit to channeling my inner Prince Charles either and packing my feather pillow for my recent long haul holiday. It's a flimsy defence but I'm a front sleeper.

Marmite27 · 13/04/2024 18:48

*Kindle
*cross body bag
*international plug with usb sockets
*silicone folding bowls - I bought a couple of nuby ones for weaning the kids and they stayed in my handbag and they come in handy for so much. Saving leftovers, rinsing things out, keeping something wet separate in my bag etc

Blameitonthedog · 13/04/2024 21:33

I take a mug..the hotel ones are usually too small

hopsalong · 14/04/2024 01:14

Electric blanket/heating pad. Sad but true.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 14/04/2024 04:54

Packing cubes, hanging toiletry bag, headphones, the Uniqlo bag and a small backpack.

Rumpoleoftheballet · 14/04/2024 06:08
