I’m having a few mini holidays over the next few months and have seen various adverts on social media for travel accessories / things that make travel easier / more stylish / more practical .
what have you bought recently that’s really enhanced your travel experience or make it more fun / easier to travel ?

A Multi charging cable in one. Iphone, Fire tablet, kindle, apple watch magnet, all on one USB cable. Got it abroad in a shop, but similar are in the usual online places.

Power bank, again I got a super slim flat one that is the same size as the phone and I keep them together with an elastic band. Fully charged of course! That has saved me a few times when flights etc. were delayed.

A fold up backpack that I got in Ale Hop shop for a tenner. Brilliant thing.

Copy of prescriptions, the actual drugs needed in 7 day boxes, and non prescription things I use that I'm never sure I'll get abroad, e.g. fave eye drops, Vick inhalor stick, anaesthetic throat spray, and fizzy paracetemol tabs.

I don't stress about the rest of it. I bring the minimum I need, and will buy anything else at destination.

Apparently Prince William didn't have any the other day, and had to leg it from the memorial service for his Godfather pinching his nether cheeks together.

I nearly made a thread like this myself the other day!

For me, a dressing gown and slippers (I normally use the cheap spa ones you get given). I don't use cubes, but I do use plastic bags. And also I pack my clothes on the hanger as a lot of places never give you enough!! When I'm there, I put my dirty washing in the plastic bags and then I can just empty it straight into the laundry basket when I get back.

International adaptor with USB outlets
Longchamp bag (so useful! Beach bag, shopping bag, extra carry on bag…)
Proper perfume
Hair products (this is a new one for me as been trying to wear my hair curly but makes such a difference)
A proper travel wallet — I don’t how I lived without one. Space for passport, boarding passes, multiple pockets for each different currency etc.

Laminated copies of our main passport pages, carried in all our bags.
Got us home once, but LHR were not very happy. (Didn't matter, we were home.)

Can I ask how long ago this was ?

I want to thank those who recommended taking a trailing socket instead of lots of plug adapters. I'm travelling tomorrow and have added this to my list.

Fluffyc1ouds · 01/03/2024 12:10

For the travel plug and extension lead tip, I love this! But I would be worried about the hotel plug socket and travel plug not coping with the power with multiple things plugged in. I'm sure when I last went abroad I remember my travel plug getting quite hot with just one phone charger plugged in. With so many suggestions on here though I assume it's been fine for most?

Swiss army knife. I take it every night away. Opens wine bottles, has scissors, knife for picnic lunches, tweezers, so many uses!

Portable rechargeable usb fan
neck pillow

CharlotteBog · 13/03/2024 12:07

I'm back from a week in India.
Things I wish I'd taken - my own shower cap. The cubicle had both rain forest and microphone, but you could't use the microphone for anything other than rinsing off due to the wall fitting. They did supply a shower hat, but it wasn't adequate.

A few clothes pegs would have been useful to pin the curtains against light creep. It's good if you can get the room completely dark when you're jet lagged.

I'll say it again....the trailing socket is a great idea.

A set of small bottles for just enough shampoo/conditioner/cleanser for the trip. Won them in a raffle.

Neck pillow for long haul flights.

I do this but then can’t work out which bottle contains what.

Would you mind linking by to the fan please?

Also, have bought a fab rucksack that fits under the seat in front of you but for a few nights can fit all you need as long as you fly in your winter coat and boots. No need to pay extra to the airline. Will find link

Please do link.

Extension lead
Stick on magnifying mirror - the pocket kind with the little suckers on the back.

tobee · 10/04/2024 23:57

Stick a label on @Thatsthewayitisnt ? Freezer labels that stick fast.

Ooh see I'm not first with extension lead!

Sgtmajormummy · 11/04/2024 00:06

A plastic spork. So I can pick up supermarket food cheaply and not have to track down cutlery.
A lightweight infinity scarf as an extra layer/snood (cashmere) or a cover-up for visiting churches (cotton).
Old contact lens cases to hold vitamins, a couple of paracetamol, Sudocrem and Vaseline. Maybe even toothpaste until I buy some for the week. Pocket packs of tissues.
A plastic A4 document pouch with all the printouts in order of day. They’re also on my phone, but you never know when you’ll be standing at the ticket office with a spent battery…

Edited

Mine came with a set of labels.
You could use a Sharpie.

pastypirate · 11/04/2024 17:06

What a great thread!

Second the travel wallet I bought a gold one in the dying days of Debenhams but it's hefty and big enough to fit all the print outs of tickets and so on.

A wet bag for face cloths etc I always save the bag anything from shein gets delivered in as it's a zip lock type bag.

Here for the ideas me x

Extension cable for extra sockets!

blue345 · 11/04/2024 17:25

Second the extension lead and I've started using packing cubes. Also microfibre towels rather than the heavy beach ones.

If I'm flying, I tie a ribbon on my case so it's easier to spot on the conveyor belt and a bag that zips up into a little pouch but you can use it as a huge beach bag or as an extra suitcase to check in coming home (if you've indulged in the US outlet stores).

I've also stuck small first name labels on the front of our passports (which I presume doesn't contravene any regulations as a couple of border agents said they were a good idea).

tobee · 11/04/2024 17:44

If I'm going self catering in U.K. , a good knife and a non stick pan and a tea cosy if I'm feeling organised.

Wolfcub · 12/04/2024 10:15

Travel adapter with multiple usb sockets and a usb nightlight attachment . Packing cubes. Small compression dry bag. A good daysac
