Can't comment on mainland Spain but any of the Balearics would be my choice
Cala un Forcat in Menorca
Santa Eulalia in Ibiza my faves

Bargello · 24/01/2024 08:16

Menorca is beautiful and very low key. The main town is small and there is not much in the way of shopping or nightlife. We loved it.

Majorca is bigger and Palma the main city is lovely - loads to see and do. We found Majorca more built up and just a lot busier.

Both are lovely, it really depends what you're looking for.

shreknjumps · 24/01/2024 08:17

Majorca is mozzie hell on earth so not there!

BaronessBomburst · 24/01/2024 08:27

Asturias has some wonderful child-friendly beaches, but you may not get the weather.
Mojacar Playa is nice for a beach holiday, and has a safe, children's beach. There are play parks along the seafront too. There are also places to visit within driving distance, such as Wild West film sets in the desert, aquarium in Roquetas etc if you fancy a day out.

Really? we were there for 2 weeks last june/july and didn't think it was bad at all. And i'm the person who always gets bitten and always has a big red reaction to bites.

Costa Brava - specifically Lla Franc and Calella de Palafrugell.

Fly to Girona (or Barcelona at a push).

Yes both of these have come up when I've been looking obviously bit wary re Ibiza haha

@Bargello me too. I've given it 3 chances and honestly, never known anything like it. Absolute agony the last time, despite using the strongest repellants.

I've been all over the world but Majorca mozzies ruined each of those trips

Don't be, it's a beautiful island and it's not all about the party. Have taken my young kids there lots
Santa Eulalia has a lovely, safe beach with clear sea and is geared up for families
You can get ferries to other parts of the island if you want

fussychica · 24/01/2024 17:13

If you want southern Spain but without the high rise thing going on I'd second Mojacar or Vera Playa, or San Juan del los Terreros up the coast, with safe beaches for young ones. Very hot in July/August as this province is home to Europe's desert. Costa Brava is very pretty, a bit like Mallorca in terms of coastline.

ImDuranDuran · 24/01/2024 17:16

La Cala de Mijas. We've been going for years now as a family.

Quite small in comparison to the well-known destinations but that's what I like about it. If you like a bit of hustle-and-bustle, Fuengirola is a 15 min bus/taxi journey up the road.

idontlikealdi · 24/01/2024 17:19

Following as I am interested in mainland Spain, have only been to La Manga and that was as a kid.

Ibiza is possibly my favourite place though. Es Cana(r) is perfect for families. It is not a party town. We go most years. Santa Elulia as mentioned upthread is lovely but more grown up foodie vibes.

2024withapositivestep · 24/01/2024 19:40

@ImDuranDuran we've been mijas years ago and loved it where do you stay? If you don't mind me asking

ChocoChocoLatte · 27/01/2024 18:47

@ImDuranDuran I'd love an accommodation recommendation too please, we're going in a few wks! Flights booked but nowhere to stay yet lol

Annexlife · 27/01/2024 19:59

For that age I'd head to Cala Llonga in Ibiza. The beach is better than Santa Eulalia, it's probably the most family friendly beach on the island. Nice playground on the beach, next to a beach bar with great cocktails. Decent restaurants in the village, SOS, Flippers and more upmarket Nunn. With the new hotel open it should have a busier vibe. Short ferry ride to Santa Eulalia for a great evening out, walk along the marina and sea front. Ibiza isn't the club 18-30 island it was in the 80s. The last 20 years the focus has completely shifted.

Annexlife · 27/01/2024 20:02

To add, for affordable accommodation check out Pimm's Cala Llonga, 2 pool bars, self catering apartments and a restaurant. 15 minute walk to the beach.
You don't mention time of year do I'm assuming summer holidays. If so, rest of Spain, head north, mainland summer, south is too hot. Galicia, Asturias or Pais Vasco.

ImDuranDuran · 28/01/2024 07:14

Apologies @2024withapositivestep and @ChocoChocoLatte I'd forgotten to come back to the thread.

We've stayed here five times now:

www.lescalahotel.com

It was a recommendation by word of mouth from a friend but the reviews are excellent nonetheless.

ChocoChocoLatte · 28/01/2024 10:01

@ImDuranDuran many thanks, will give it a look Smile

Goonergirl14 · 28/01/2024 22:35

I second Santa Eulalia in Ibiza, Ibiza is gorgeous probably my favourite place in the world..there wasn't much to do for my 12 and 10 year old but for younger kids it is ideal, beautiful beach and no nightlife so to speak, promenade is beautiful, some amazing restaurants. I have a DS with asd so I do lots of research on areas, really like the look of Cala D'Or in Majorca but the travel time from the airport put me off. We are off to Portugal this year but already looking at Costa Adeje in Tenerife for next year as everyone raves about it!

ChocoChocoLatte · 29/01/2024 23:54

@ImDuranDuran have booked, they sound lovely. Thank you Smile

ImDuranDuran · 30/01/2024 07:47

They really are, @ChocoChocoLatte you'll be so well looked after. Excited for you Grin

We're going in August Wine

muddlingthrou · 30/01/2024 07:53

Menorca is super family friendly. We went my DD was 5 months, and considering going back.

Ibiza outside of Ibiza town and San Antonio is actually beautiful and full of (mainly Spanish) families.

shreknjumps · 24/01/2024 08:17

Majorca is mozzie hell on earth so not there!

I've been to Majorca many times and not experienced this. Perhaps up in Alcudia / Playa du Muro where there's the nature reserve and lake so a lot of standing water it's an issue?

Callmesuperstitious · 30/01/2024 07:59

Cala d'Or in Majorca is perfect for kids that age. Several calm beaches, loads of family friendly restaurants, outdoor fun parks in the evening where you can sit and have a drink whilst the kids bounce themselves senseless Grin (love a play park with a bar!)
I've been many times and never had any issues with mosquitos. It is a trek from the airport but I always get a taxi, about 45 mins.
But really any of the Balearic Islands are great for young kids.
