Hi, can anyone recommend a nice area on the Canaries for a break away in March?

Nice area, not too “Brits abroad” modern or traditional

thanks

We stayed at Tui Blue in Playa Flamingo in Lanzarote and really liked it. It was very family orientated and the beach area was really nice with palm trees all along and a promenade that went all the way to Playa Blanca (where the shops/bars/tourist tat and Brits abroad were). It might not be the right hotel for you if you want something more upscale but the front there was lovely.

We’ve stayed at Anthelia Palace in Tenerife with children and their adults only Grand Salome without, definitely one of the top hotels!
couldn’t recommend more!

Maspalomas Gran Canaria
lopesan hotel

If you are into active holidays, I could not recommend https://www.clublasanta.com more highly. Fabulous.

I've stayed here a few times and love it but wouldn't describe it as high end. The location and beach are beautiful, though. There's an Iberostar next door that I really like the look of. There's also the Princessa Yaiza (I may have got the name wrong!) in Playa Blanca town that looks much more plush.

Gran Meliá Isadora Palacio in Tenerife is fabulous - upscale 5*.

Lopesan Baoab in Gran Canaria is nice - African themed like a game lodge I think it's actually based on Disney's Animal Kingdom - not traditional but really nice.

We stayed at Vincci Selección La Plantación del Sur in Tenerife and would definitely recommend it. We also stayed at Lopesan Baobab in GC, which was lovely to look at, great pools, but I found the food to be quite poor

fitflopqueen · 20/12/2023 23:12

As already mentioned above Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort, Gran Canaria, have just returned home, would go again, no boozy brits, lots of Northern Europeans, no kids (time of year but some babies/toddlers). Very civilised.

KrazyboutKillian · 21/12/2023 21:44

@fitflopqueen
you were there same time as me

😊

Thanks so much!

Any more recommendations of nice areas and opinions of areas to perhaps avoid?

For adults there's to baiha del duque in Costa adeja tenerife. With kids try the GF Victoria up the road. Perfect upmarket family hotel.

ZenNudist · 22/12/2023 14:45

I looked at hotel botanico for Christmas break. It's near Loro Parque which is great for dc. It looks beautiful

Colinswheels · 22/12/2023 15:10

Costa Adeje in Tenerife has lots of upscale hotels.

Costa Adeje in Tenerife has lots of upscale hotels.

Yes,this is the best location in the south.
Trouble is alot of the hotels mentioned are spanish rated five stars imho.
Bahia del duque is your only really five star proper in Adeje, rated one of the top hotels in Europe, can absolutely recommend. Gran salome is fair too. Location of la plantation and baobab is poor. Botanico is also a proper five star, but is it in the north, and it wont be warm enough in march.

rookiemere · 22/12/2023 21:34

We stayed in the Iberostar Anthelia a number of years ago - couldn't afford it now - it was a lovely hotel and great location.

We recently stayed at the GF costa adeje Gran - meant to be 5 stat but it really isn't. Decent 4 star but priced accordingly.

I have seen the Hotel Botanico as friends staying there. Amazing outdoor heated pool and spa complex but rooms a bit old fashioned and in the North of Tenerife so could be a bit cooler.

countdowntonap · 22/12/2023 21:46

Does it have to be the Canaries? Doesn’t really fit with your requirements. What about Madeira?

Singleandproud · 22/12/2023 21:52

I'm not sure if what would class as high end for you but the Royal Sun Resort in Los Gigantes has an outstanding view and it's quiet with the livelier town down the bottom of the hill. A small black sandy beach with good snorkeling and the marina for tours, kayak and paddle board hire. Easy access to the rest of the island by the nearby bus station or free parking at the hotel.

Food is great all rooms are large with full kitchenettes and a shop on site but also two great restaurants, each room has a large balcony and the more expensive ones have their own jacuzzis, I believe most rooms were renovated over COVID.

rookiemere · 23/12/2023 07:26

Or this is a lovely hotel in Lanzarote www.los-jameos.com/ , nice traditional rooms, excellent food and nice peaceful surroundings.

I’ve stayed at the Corales Royal Hideaway and it’s most definitely five star. Probably not what OP is looking for as it’s a very modern hotel but we loved our suite which had a huge terrace and private pool. Also loved the position in La Caleta due to the proximity of so many nice places to eat.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 23/12/2023 08:33

Corales is similar to gran salome, both modern and pleasant.

Triptastico · 23/12/2023 08:39

Grand Hotel Residencia this is true upscale hotel in Gran Canaria.

gotomomo · 23/12/2023 08:43

Bahia chain - half the customers were Spanish with the remaining customers from across Europe, not too many Brits or Germans ... was a bit sedate consequently but on the upside they left bottles of spirits on the counter for you to help yourself! All inclusive, multiple restaurants included

Not heard of this chain, but then I don’t do all inclusive.

We stayed, some years back in the Secrets Bahia Real resort Fuertaventura before it was taken over by the Bahia group.
It was in October.
A lovely hotel.
We met a well known Irish hotelier (really lovely 5 star hotel ) who always stayed there.
I don't know how it has fared since the Bahia group took over.
