HOLIDAY SOS

Meant to be going on holiday on Friday to Bulgaria for skiing. Just had a call from the agents to say there's not going to be any snow so they can refund us 😥

I'm SO disappointed.

Anyway, we're due to fly Friday 8th and fly home Monday 11th.

We have two kids who are staying with SIL and we really need this break.

So, hit me up with your best last min destinations for 2 adults, kid free. We don't mind where, it doesn't have to be skiing.

Under 1k please

Fuck my actual life. 😅

Can you not go anyway?? Ski resorts without snow are still beautiful. I’ve been to French Alps in winter and summer and actually preferred it in summer. Never been to Bulgaria but surely there’ll still be lovely things to do there.

SofiePendragon · 04/12/2023 15:37

This happened to us years ago and we had a City break in Sofia and Plovdiv instead. It was pretty cheap. Could you keep your flights and just get the skiing part refunded?

Fran919 · 04/12/2023 15:43

I’d go for a winter city break and some Christmas markets if that’s your thing, maybe Vienna or look if there’s any last minute short cruises available if you’re near London / the south for ports.

febbabies2023 · 04/12/2023 15:57

We could have gone anyway and they would have refunded us the skiing part (it was Sofia) but we really wanted to do the skiing!

But that's off the cards now for our budget and short notice and I have no idea what else we want to do!

We really need this break, the relationship is shit at the moment and this was our time to sort our shit out 😂

There's absolutely tonnes of snow in the Alps at the moment. We're going to Morzine in Feb so I follow it on Instagram, it look's like snowmageddon there, Austria is the same!

LIZS · 04/12/2023 16:13

Agree you should be able to find somewhere in the Alps. Many resorts are opening up this coming weekend, look at flights to Innsbruck and resorts like St Anton, Obertauern or Solden

Havanananana · 04/12/2023 20:13

Look at flights to Salzburg - there is plenty of snow in the Austrian Alps (Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang, Zell am See etc.) and as Friday is a public holiday in Austria, most resorts will be looking to open almost all the pistes. I might even be able to advise re. accommodation.

You could also spend a day in Salzburg - it has one of Europe's best Christmas markets.

rookiemere · 04/12/2023 21:33

Friend is just back from a weekend trip flying out to Malaga and back from Seville. She said it was beautifully pleasant weather for this time of year and enjoyed seeing both places.
There is a two hour bus ride between them, but it opens up your options if flight times or dates aren't good for a same place return.

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 04/12/2023 21:35

Can you get a cheap flight to Munich & hop on the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen etc.
There was certainly plenty of snow last week -the place was at a standstill...

Invisimamma · 04/12/2023 21:39

Just back from a weekend in Krakow. It was beautiful, very christmassy, lots of snow and reasonably cheap to eat and drink.

UsingChangeofName · 04/12/2023 21:45

Berlin ? I believe has Christmas Markets worth a visit
Krakow ? Just a lovely City with plenty to see (esp if you can still get a trip to the Salt Mines) and very cheap to eat out.

m00rfarm · 04/12/2023 21:49

Go to Malaga - I was there watching the Davis Cup last week, and it was magical in the town - i wish we had had more time to explore. It was nothing like I remembered from 25 years ago! Fabulous Christmas markets, beautiful lights, light show in the evenings, wonderful restaurants, near the beach and also lots of culture. And definitely not expensie to stay there.

febbabies2023 · 05/12/2023 07:08

Thanks all, some great suggestions.

I'm definitely moping about it at the moment. A cancelled holiday 4 days before you're due to go is annoying. Mostly because then you have to spend hours looking for a new holiday which id already done for the first one 🫠

Budapest? Lisbon, Seville, Barcelona. Or as pp said, Christmas markets in Germany.

TiredandLate · 05/12/2023 07:23

Go on skyscanner and choose 'anywhere' find a decent flight and plan from there. Enjoy!

Azure · 05/12/2023 07:34

On the British Airways website go to Holiday Finder, put in your dates and you can view all the places and prices available - prices are for flights & hotels. You can filter by destination etc. There are loads of interesting places, including 3 nights in Morocco for £181 each.

PixiePirate · 05/12/2023 07:37

Have a look on the LuckyTrip app. You can set dates and maximum budget.

MinnieMountain · 05/12/2023 11:59

Fly to Malaga and ski in Sierra Nevada. There’s snow there at the moment.

gotomomo · 05/12/2023 12:09

£700 to Marrakesh ai. 5 star Gatwick any good?

MissAmbrosia · 05/12/2023 12:21

Don't fly to Munich - it's chaos at the moment as there's been too much snow.

Havanananana · 05/12/2023 12:40

Ryanair Stansted - Salzburg; Out on Friday, back on Monday evening for about £85 each.
Postbus from Salzburg Airport to Saalbach or Zell am See - €15 e/w pp.
B&B or s/c apartment €100-€120 a night. Beer or gluhwein €6 a glass.

Ski all day Saturday and Sunday (the conditions at the moment are excellent and the pistes are empty) - and half of Monday, or take an early bus back to Salzburg and spend Monday sightseeing before the 17.00 flight back.

febbabies2023 · 05/12/2023 15:48

@Havanananana you're amazing! We've never been skiing and where we booked through before I could do ski hire and lift passes through them. Any advice on doing this? Can I get them anywhere and do it out there or best to pre book?

We went to Borovets for skiing and it literally snowed the day we arrived (24/12).

There's so many lovely places you could go. Easyjey holidays have some great offers.

How about Iceland? Or if you want hot Tunisia or Canary Islands.

rookiemere · 05/12/2023 16:37

@febbabies2023 have you had ski lessons?

whyamiawakestill · 05/12/2023 16:38

Austria!!
