Do you feel like you’re wasting money flying business class?

I fly with work and get biz. So it’s hard to go back to normal and fly economy. We earn decent salaries but no way would we ever spend £2-3k of our own dosh on a flight.

We religiously collect avios and upgrade ourselves. But even then the taxes go up so we’re spending the airmiles plus another say £400 in taxes. We take home around £7k a month so £800 in taxes just to fly business class is a lot of money to us.

does anyone else feel the same?

I only ever fly standard, but dream of the day I can spend the extra for first or business class. All that extra legroom must be a dream.

If I cant afford a business class flight, I can't afford the trip. It's non negotiable for me.
My original quote ^

I guess that poster is extremely high maintenance compared to me. I can think of far better ways to spend the ££££ not splurged on a few hours on a plan
I haven't said how often I can afford it !

We fly Premium, or economy out
and business back. The split combo works particularly for returning to work. Paying for 4, both ways is too much. Once the kids have gone and it’s no longer school holidays… I expect it will still feel too much!

Even if it's short haul to Europe ?

I've never flown anything other than basic low cost . But then again have never flown long haul. I can see if you see in a plane 8 hours or more, you would want to be comfortable, but sometimes you can be on a flight to Europe for a shorter time than a train ride between two UK cities.

Always economy, i can sleep easily on planes so dont want to waste money if not needed.

My most recent trip I worked out I'd be paying an extra £200 an hour to sit in business. I could never really appreciate it if I was paying for it myself as this cost would be in the back of my mind the whole trip!

Even when I was single and earning £150k+ a year, I wouldn't spent my own money on business - and I spend money on anything Grin. The cost is so much more than economy, it never seemed worth it.

Except once. Once I took a very special trip to see the F1 in Singapore and bought business tickets then. I'd just accepted the whole weekend was going to cost a fortune but was a reward for 2 years vary hard work away from home, and I knew I may never in the position to do it again.

So I did!
