Never travelled alone before - turkey?

I've found an all inclusive for turkey for 10 nights for next year in sept so,hopefully not too many kids around (nothing against them just done my stint !)

It's a 5* hotel

I'm a bit of a wuss about holidaying alone as never done it but I'm assuming this is a safe bet and safe for a lone traveller , I mean it's a package 5* all inclusive, I'm not planning on backpacking through the Amazon or anything

I just want a relaxing break in the sun , nothing taxing , not bothered about even leaving the resort tbh this time , just something to get my confidence up to do more alone , so 10 days in a warm sunny climate with the safety of knowing everything is paid for

I'm in my 50s and this is a big deal for me and not had a holiday for 6 years

Nothing can go wrong can it ......I mean it's a safe bet

I am really glad that you have booked OP (and decided to ‘risk’ Turkey)
You will absolutely love it……and you will be fine. ENJOY 😊

The barut hotel was my final choice and it looks amazing so I'm glad to have that reassurance, thanks everyone

The magic life looked nice but the barut one looked nicer 😂

Loads of handbag shops in and around Side, varying quality but you'll be spoilt for choice.

Which Barut hotel did you go for? I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I personally would not choose turkey alone. I would choose a cruise who are geared up for solo travel (see Facebook solo cruise group for inspiration and special pricing) Otherwise I'd stick to somewhere like Portugal

I went for this one in the end , looks amazing

@fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft

I've been to other magic life hotels that were 4 star not 5, but do recommend

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 08/09/2023 08:03

Lovely, enjoy OP!

I don't want a cruise and I don't t want to go to
Portugal!
Why does everyone think all single women should holiday on a ship - I've done a cruise and wouldn't do another .
Anyway I've done it . Booked 5* turkey . I've never seen a hotel get 5/5 trip advisor reviews so I'm guessing it's gonna be good , safe , and I'm looking forward to it already

Only had one issue in Turkey when travelling round with a friend. A guy pestered us but the guy was a tool and would have been a tool anywhere. And people stepped in and helped us.

have fun OP. ( agree on cruises except for The Nile, fabulous )

SallyWD · 08/09/2023 08:20

My friend travels alone. She's very attractive and usually gets a lot of hassle from men (in the UK and abroad). However, she said Turkey was fine and she'd love to go back. No problems. It was a different story when she went to Tunisia. She was harassed to the extent that she felt unsafe.

FredaFox · 08/09/2023 08:25

Id travel to many places alone but wouldn't turkey
I've been twice and was really uncomfortable with the male attention
Including in my accommodation
I've also been a holiday rep in Spain so have lived abroad. I had many solo female travellers in my various accommodations with no issues from self catering up to all inclusive

"Ooof did someone say handbag shop . . ? In side ? Maybe I will use my. It of learned Turkish and check that out"

Eh? Thought you weren't going out?

You won't find a Turkish resort without a handbag shop. Fucking everywhere, trying to drag you in and grope you before taking your money. Don't speak to them in basic Turkish, you just make yourself stand out more.

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 08/09/2023 08:28

I honestly don't know why there's so much hate about Turkey. Maybe it depends where you go - I've only ever been to Antalya region which I think is the up-market bit.

BlueisthenewGrey · 08/09/2023 08:49

Have an amazing holiday. The Barut chain is very good and 5* unlike some in Turkey. Side is stunning, don't be afraid to go and explore, there are some historic sites that are worth a visit and a fab shopping centre in Manvagat that puts our UK shopping centres to shame, (very safe, clean and a great range of shops). There is a Side facebook group, if you have FB join, it will give you a good idea what's in the area if you choose to explore. Also Gimble walk on YouTube is a good one to watch.

Same I’ve been to eight different places including Istanbul and it’s definitely my favourite short haul destination. For me it’s the scenery and the excursions that keep drawing me back.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 08/09/2023 23:55

I feel very confident I'll be fine . I'm super excited! I spent last other reading the trip advisor reviews and feel completely reassured that this hotel is safe, the staff are friendly and professional and they are highly commended in every review and every single review gives 5/5 . The reviews are all genuine . It's costing me more than 14 days in Mexico did but the standard seems extremely high and I honestly can't wait , after a few extremely bad years and illness it's exactly what I need .

I know someone who cycled back to the UK from China solo and Turkey was the only place she had issues as a single female; she felt seriously unsafe. My partner's family have a property in Turkey and I never venture far from there on my own when we are out there.

If you do have a rethink, I would put in a word for Italy: Wonderful food, beautiful weather, nice people, either lovely cultured cities or mountains or beaches.... whatever you're after really....

Rockandrollfangirl · 19/09/2023 17:23

We went to Turkey in June.
I walked into the local village alone and didn't feel unsafe at all.
The AI resorts are stunning. I'd definitely go alone.

professionalnomad · 22/09/2023 20:30

I've lived here for 10 years and have travelled extensively around Turkiye solo mostly driving. I've never felt unsafe. The hotel you have chosen is gorgeous. Have a lovely time. Everything will be fine.

Windseven · 23/09/2023 06:49

No advice re Turkey (only been to Istanbul so not relevant) but wanted to say have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the next year of looking forward to it, sounds like you deserve a really relaxing luxury break without a dickhead to piss on your chips.
