Never travelled alone before - turkey?

I've found an all inclusive for turkey for 10 nights for next year in sept so,hopefully not too many kids around (nothing against them just done my stint !)

It's a 5* hotel

I'm a bit of a wuss about holidaying alone as never done it but I'm assuming this is a safe bet and safe for a lone traveller , I mean it's a package 5* all inclusive, I'm not planning on backpacking through the Amazon or anything

I just want a relaxing break in the sun , nothing taxing , not bothered about even leaving the resort tbh this time , just something to get my confidence up to do more alone , so 10 days in a warm sunny climate with the safety of knowing everything is paid for

I'm in my 50s and this is a big deal for me and not had a holiday for 6 years

Nothing can go wrong can it ......I mean it's a safe bet

Absolutely wouldn’t do it. No way in hell. And I speak as someone who has been there.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 00:35

I can't link it

I think I'm going to risk it given its credentials and the fact I'm not going out

Even staying in resort ?

I've heard the same about Egypt and Jamaica but surely if you are not planning on going out of resort it's safe ?

It would feel a waste to go to Jamaica or Egypt and not see the sights but for some reason turkey feels more "short haul" and I wouldn't feel as bad not day tripping .

You can’t go too far wrong in an AI hotel can you.
The only (tiny) hint of creepiness DGD and I experienced was on a boat trip and she went onto the top deck, where she was asked by a guy if she would allow a friend of his to take a photo of her with him, she is a strong minded girl and simply said NO.
And this was an English guy!!

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 00:49

I don't think I'm a 5* AI you can go wrong you could be anywhere

My reason for turkey is I want out of season but good weather, direct flights , and the med is cooling off late sept .

What's the name of the resort?

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 00:58

It's this one

OP: Shall I go here?

Nearly everyone : OMG, no!

OP: Yeah, it’ll be fine, I’m going.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 01:07

It's called tui magic life sarigermie

I'm not saying I'm going I'm asking why I shouldn't given it's a 5* resort with excellent trip advisor reviews and my friend has just returned saying it's wonderful

I'm not heading to the markets of delaman daily , or sightseeing alone

I'd be staying in the resort which appears to be very safe

I understand if I was saying shall I go and wild camp in Iran

I'm asking for opinions yes .
For advice yes

Am I obligated to take it - no . But knowledge is power and if it's a bad idea to stay in a 5* AI resort and not leave it I'd like to know why bawd on evidence

Of course you should go 😎 You'll be pampered and protected.

PP are bonkers. I'm usually a Dora the Explorer, sleazy natives and all, but you've pretty much sold me on your holiday. I quite fancy a low-effort, high-reward break myself!

GarlicGrace · 07/09/2023 01:13

🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, that would be a no!

bluebell34567 · 07/09/2023 01:16

i think 10 days is too long for that. max 1 week.

milliemermaid · 07/09/2023 01:16

That looks an amazing hotel, and I am slightly envious 👙🕶

VioletPickles · 07/09/2023 01:17

You’ll be fine. Keep your wits about you, organised excursions only and keep yourself to yourself. Enjoy the break op 😊

If you are going AI and not leaving resort why not go to a Greek island instead

If you are going AI and not leaving resort why not go to a Greek island instead

Ive explained why upthread

Because I want off peak season, so the kids are back to school and it's quiet - I'm looking to go in September into October and the med , including Greece , is closed out of season and colder

milliemermaid · 07/09/2023 01:20

I expect once the OP is there, she will meet people and get out a little.
Or as someone up thread suggested……organised excursions.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 01:26

When I used to travel with a partner I was very happy to take chances and go exploring.

I've lost a bit of confidence and this will be a first ever holiday solo , so a very lazy option maybe but one I'm hoping will get my confidence back to travel alone .

Once I've done it , I will look at doing more alone , including different places , sightseeing, etc but for someone in their 50s , whose had a rough few years this just fits the bill !

i think 10 days is too long for that. max 1 week.

There was a study done on holidays and the day for peak relaxation is day 8 !

I'd like to be there for say 8 in that case and not struggling through an airport Grin

On day 8 my plan is hit that spa ! 10 days is perfect for me .

I did a 28 day cruise once and still didn't want to come home

I agree. You'll be fed up after a week. All the reviews look good. Any negative ones are from years ago.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 01:33

I think it looks like it lives up to its 5*

Nope definitely won't be fed up after a week

I'm naturally a sloth

Being a sloth on a beach with a cocktail sounds heavenly BlushGrin
