Never travelled alone before - turkey?

I've found an all inclusive for turkey for 10 nights for next year in sept so,hopefully not too many kids around (nothing against them just done my stint !)

It's a 5* hotel

I'm a bit of a wuss about holidaying alone as never done it but I'm assuming this is a safe bet and safe for a lone traveller , I mean it's a package 5* all inclusive, I'm not planning on backpacking through the Amazon or anything

I just want a relaxing break in the sun , nothing taxing , not bothered about even leaving the resort tbh this time , just something to get my confidence up to do more alone , so 10 days in a warm sunny climate with the safety of knowing everything is paid for

I'm in my 50s and this is a big deal for me and not had a holiday for 6 years

Nothing can go wrong can it ......I mean it's a safe bet

I wouldn’t go to Turkey alone either; lots of other European destinations safer for women

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 16:03

It's this one

And Ive booked . After reading the reviews I'm certain it will be fine

Little
More expensive at £2500 but look's totally worth it

I think that's a much better choice.

It's worth getting a balcony if you are going on your own, so you can sit outside with a glass of wine and admire the view and not feel the need to go down to the bar etc unless you want to. Top tip from friend who holidays on her own most years, she has a lovely lunch then a nap and then sits on her balcony in the evening with a book and some snacks.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 16:16

Barrel that sounds idyllic!

I've got a balcony double room . But I'm sure I will find lots of places to tuck away with my book

I live alone so being alone doesn't phase me .

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft I went away in May to an all inclusive hotel on my own and had the best time. I thoroughly enjoyed all my meals eating at my own place with a glass of Rose. I like to do excursions so enjoyed those and I also love to swim and enjoyed sitting in the shade with my magazines. I often took a magazine to the bar in the evening and really enjoyed this time of day.
Your holiday sounds fabulous.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 16:28

You know what I'm excited by .....

I went away to an adults only romantic resort in Mexico with my prick of an ex, and he went "awwwww" whenever he saw lone diners

But I was on edge the whole holiday , within 30 mins of arrival he literally stamped his feet and said he wanted to go home because he thought there wasn't a gym
(There was)

He monitored everything I did, every drink or cocktail I had , argued over nothing , and made it an absolute misery

This time I will be relaxed , free to do what I want when I want , drink and eat what I want , wear what I want , and I think this will be the first truly relaxed holiday I'll have had in 10 years, alone yep, but free .

I cannot bloody wait

Absolutely yes I would, I've been to turkey many many times and never once experienced any issues. The luxury is 2nd to none. I would NOT travel to Istanbul alone, but Antalya area, Lara Beach etc without a second of a doubt. We're going to Dalaman next year OP - to the Liberty Fabay and I cannot wait.

Nodancingshoes · 07/09/2023 16:45

The Turkey that some posters are describing is not the Turkey I recognise. We have just come back from Olu Deniz / Hisaronu and it seems perfectly safe to me. The people were lovely - couldn't do enough for you. I belong to a few fb groups for these resorts and many people do solo holidays there.

MariaVT65 · 07/09/2023 16:52

I’m half Turkish, been to Turkey lots and I would agree with the other posters to absolutely not leave the resort while you’re there. The men see women as objects.

Will there be a holiday rep there as well? If so, make yourself known to them and ask them for advice.

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 07/09/2023 16:52

Love Turkey, whereabouts are you staying?

I've been 5* all inclusive 3 times now. Once with my daughter, and once with my mum. No issues at all from Turkish men on the women's only holidays.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 07/09/2023 16:52

Just back from Turkey and although I went with the family I did go for walks along and found it very safe. Yes they try get you into shops but just walk past and ignore them.

Tulipsalways · 07/09/2023 17:47

We just got back from the holiday village next door. Absolutely loved it. Would go back tomorrow. Went into serigerme and didn't find it stressful at all. Basket travel is great if you want private transfers, taxis or trips.

Tiespin · 07/09/2023 17:56

If it's the Hilton at Dalaman you'll have a wonderful time. It's perfectly safe there for single women. We've been two years running. Can't recommend it too highly.

Tiespin · 07/09/2023 17:57

Sorry, just seen you've already booked! That sounds great you'll have a brilliant time

BitOutOfPractice · 07/09/2023 18:49

Oh I’m so pleased you’ve booked. Have a wonderful time and come back and tell us all what a fantastic time you’ve had.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 20:43

Well I've a year to wait as I ended up going for the more expensive adults only that has unfailing 5/5 reviews on trip advisor so got some money to find ! But really looking forward to it.

Already learning a bit of Turkish ready to fend off those hoards of marauding single men trying to swap me for a chicken 😂😂

Turkey is a massive Country. Have you narrowed down your search to come like Belek/Lara beach in Turkey. £1800 is a lot of money. I have been to Magic life masmavi and it was brilliant.

Tui blue hotels look great, Paloma Finesse or any Barut hotels tend to be fab!!

Youonlygetonelife19 · 07/09/2023 21:40

Side is lovely and Antalya old town is worth visiting if you do go further.,
Lovely part of Turkey.
I’ve travelled many times in taxis and on buses around Turkey with no problems. You’ll have a great holiday.

Chardonnay73 · 07/09/2023 21:47

Been to Side many, many times. Barut hotels are amazing!
Side town is fine, but to have fair I’ve only gone during the day to handbag shop, the worst thing that has happened to me is that I was called Samatha Fox by a shop owner ( blonde with big tits and was struggling to get into a knock off hoodie) 🙄
You will have an amazing time! Enjoy 😉
I’m off to Bodrum next week and feeling equally nervous as never been before.

SleeplessinSeattle53 · 07/09/2023 21:51

Another vote for Barut hotels - awesome. Have stayed at the Lara and the Hemera.

StillWantingADog · 07/09/2023 21:53

If you are happy to stay in the resort then fine. But in your shoes I’d go to greece instead and then you can explore without worrying about being hassled.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 07/09/2023 01:07

It's called tui magic life sarigermie

I'm not saying I'm going I'm asking why I shouldn't given it's a 5* resort with excellent trip advisor reviews and my friend has just returned saying it's wonderful

I'm not heading to the markets of delaman daily , or sightseeing alone

I'd be staying in the resort which appears to be very safe

You'll be grand. It's absolutely fine. Take your books, relax and enjoy yourself. We love Turkey: had a bit of a bad time this year (last minute booking) but the magic life hotels are great, you'll have a rep and it's a lovely hotel.
