Barbados AI

We have managed to get flights there using our airmiles in November and are looking for a lovely AI which is more of a chilled, relaxing vibe rather than anything super posh.

Just me and DP for this trip.

We went to Windjammer in St Lucia last year and I want something similar but it so hard to tell from the reviews.

I can't stand the massive high rise hotels, prefer something spread out but with a really nice beach on the west coast preferably. It's a respite break so party time isn't really on the cards.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Turtle Bay Resort next to Sandals was v chilled

Glittertwins · 28/08/2023 15:35

We can second Turtle Beach.

Glittertwins · 28/08/2023 15:36

Although that's south coast. Mango Bay further up the west coast was good too.

Alice909 · 28/08/2023 21:53

Nooo do not go AI!!

Duvetdweller · 28/08/2023 22:22

Such a waste to do AI for Barbados - it’s an amazing island, so easy to get around on the bus, very very safe, great bars and restaurants

Saxendi · 29/08/2023 11:56

Not AI as others have said, depends on your budget;
Sandpiper,
Coral Reef club,
Cobblers Cove
Little Good Harbour

We did sea breeze beach house and I wouldn't recommend

Why not?

TomAllenWife · 29/08/2023 12:56

The food choice was poor, they sell it as 3 restaurants but two do the same food every night so if you're there 10 days it becomes dull

Breakfast was carnage, think Tenerife AI but more expensive, same with the pool bar, hoards of families grabbing 10 slices of pizza at a time.

No entertainment at night, we were going to bed about 8.30 bored

We didn't pay for the trip but it was about £7k. If I'd paid £7k for that I would be crying.

Thanks for the tips.

We are honing down on places that are mainly not AI, Sugar Bay, Cobblers Cove and Coral Reef Club.

I want a decent beach some of them seem to have hardly any beach at all. I'm not a poolside person Grin

Are you able to recommend somewhere I can stay with my children who are 11, that is half board, mid range?

Saxendi · 12/09/2023 18:15

COQ10

British Airways holidays really good price wise, have a look, prices vary so much depending on time you want to go.
Best value for really good quality accommodation is Beach View on the west coast but is more or less self catering, lots of options for eating though around.

Which did you prefer?

BV looks v nice. I'm just a little nervous about cost of self catering! Seem to get v different advice on here....

Glittertwins · 12/09/2023 18:47

We did one, friends did the other.

Saxendi · 12/09/2023 18:49

Mango Bay always a popular choice,
self catering really up to you how much you want to spend!

Also where would you recommend we stay? Is your Airbnb available over Xmas?!

Blueuggboots · 12/09/2023 22:00

@CoQ10, it's the friendliest place EVER.

We stayed in fitts village, which is half way up the west coast.

Brilliant places to eat - and well priced - Wendy's sports bar, lemon rock, cheffette - Barbados version of McDonald's but way better quality.

I'm PM you the taxi driver we used...he was SO lovely.

Jump on the reggae buses for getting around - cheap and cheerful but some of them drive a bit madly!

Blueuggboots · 12/09/2023 22:04

@CoQ10 - o'neals taxi service 1 (246) 254-2368

Absolutely lovely man. Felt very safe with him. Chatty but professional.
