DH insisting I take a car seat on holiday. AIBU?

DH is going to Australia for 3 weeks to volunteer at a sporting event, so I have booked a holiday to lanzarote with my Mum and 2 children. DS will be 4 months and DD will be 3.5 (easier being on holiday with them than managing both on my own at home).
DH is insisting that I take a car seat for them both. It's a 15 minute transfer by jet2 coach from the airport, so I don't think it's necessary.
We are staying at an all inclusive hotel on the beach so it is unlikely we will get a taxi when we are there.
We will have 3 suitcases, 2 prams, a trunki, changing bags and hand bags so my point is adding 2 car seats is too much to carry.
I've said I will compromise and take a car seat for the baby, but am I being unreasonable to refuse to take one for our 3y old?

In defence of trunkis -

My children enjoy riding on them and it encourages them to do a bit more of their own locomotion around the airport (we don't bring pushchairs)

They enjoy packing a case of their own, it's a special and exciting part of holiday preparation getting the trunkis out

I've never allowed my children to mob or menace others on their trunkis

I've never put trunkis in the overhead luggage, they'll fit under the seat in front at your feet and as they're usually filled with things for the kids to amuse themselves with on the flight, this is the handiest place to keep them. Regardless, each paying passenger is entitled to the same amount of hand luggage. There's nothing unfair about paying children or adults storing their allocated hand luggage in the overhead, no matter what it is.

That said, it sounds like you have rather a lot of luggage to be dealing with and if I was taking a pushchair to the airport there's no way I'd bother with trunkis as well.

I wouldn't take car seats on holiday.

You either get a coach, in which case 1) it's very unlikely car seats will fit in a coach. 2) coaches and buses are statistically far safer than cars.

Or you hire a car and hire safe car seats. But doing this for safety reasons is imo illogical as you are statistically much safer in a coach

We used Suntransfers in Menorca, they provided a car seat for 3.5 year old dgd I doubt if a car seat would be usable on a coach although never had a coach transfer abroad without them having seatbelts.

Thanks @Blinkblinkblink Glad to hear of their usefulness, and that you supervise your DC on them (I once had a badly bruised ankle & very sore from a Trunki-careering toddler I couldn't avoid; other near-misses have made me give them a very wide berth. They just look heavy &a bit useless from the outside!

Very, very unlikely the baby will get a seat on the transfer coach - under 2s don't akaik, and both transfer busses we had with jet2 were full. So baby will be on your knee.

We had trunki booster pak/bubblegum type seats for several years - but your oldest maybe too light for them.

If you can get the cases down to 2 it will make life easier - I cant work out how 2 of you are going to juggle 2 pushchairs and 3 cases.

Enjoy the break. Personally, I think I'd tell DH you'll look into them fitting the coach, then not take them.

I've never taken a car seat on holiday and I've never seen anyone else with one.

I've only head this discussed on Mumsnet not in real life.

Agree. I'm a light packer myself but when you are packing for young kids - they take up a lot of space.
