Holiday Cottage Hell!

Frogonthelog · 27/07/2023 22:29

Well…not really hell, but I’m going round in circles on various sites.

Think I might be chasing a unicorn, but I’m trying to find a holiday cottage that sleeps 8, max 2 hours from London, for mid August. It’s to be a treat for my dad who has had a horrible year including a cancer diagnosis.

Anyone have any recommendations for good places to look, or better yet a recommendation?

please save me from Airbnb’s clutches 😆

I can't seem to post a link - but Ive found this one on cottages.com available on 11 August £2469 for 7 nights. It's in the New Forest - Burley near Ringwood. It advertises a pub within 1 mile :) The compromise is a pull out bed in one of the rooms but all the rooms are spacious & it does look lovely. It should be within your 2 hours drive limit

This place is fabulous. Definitely one of nicest holiday homes that I've ever stayed in. Beautiful harbour view and a short stroll to an excellent pub. Luxurious inside with everything you could need, and a lovely private garden. It's very popular but there is some availability in August.

Try hoseasons, they do cottages as well as caravan sites and you can do a region search. There’s quite a few large houses available in the SE and east anglia that week but I don’t know the areas.

Ohmylovejune · 28/07/2023 13:23

We did this last year with Mum. We.were in Devon as we are westcountry based. Best thing we ever did being able to make memories before Mum's health deteriorated further. Her grandchildren came as well.

We didn't use air b and b but a local accommodation company called Marsdens but I suspect they cover an area too far away from you.

Don’t recommend Sykes cottages.

How hard is the 2 hour limit? This is in Lymington in the New Forest which is a nice little town with decent restaurants and right by the sea, but traffic can be a nightmare in summer so could be over 2 hours to get there: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/731060993034600136?adults=6&children=2&location=Lymington&check_in=2023-08-12&check_out=2023-08-19&source_impression_id=p3_1690554030_5MG2Uylx2n07tDH8&previous_page_section_name=1001&federated_search_id=fc122d2a-f5b6-41f2-a544-ea34ea01d38d

Forgot to say that it's in lovely Chichester, West Sussex.

Sadly I don't think the Dell Quay house sleeps 8. Ive seen it from the outside after we went for lunch at the pub and I remember looking at it and wondering what it looked like inside, so it was interesting to see the link

shazshaz · 28/07/2023 18:31

Actually ignore me it does say sleeps 6-8.

There are three double bedrooms and two sitting rooms, one of which has a double sofa bed, so it does sleep 8. It's a fabulous place which I can highly recommend. An added bonus is that the owner is lovely and she genuinely wants her guests to enjoy everything that the house and area have to offer.

Some decent Airbnb's if you look

Someboysaretryintoohard · 30/07/2023 19:35

Elveden center parcs? 4 bed lodge for a week 11-18 £3400. Would then have the pool etc for kids

Meeesh · 30/07/2023 19:59

Does it have to be a cottage? Would you consider a lodge on a holiday park? If yes then try somewhere like Cove in Selsey (lots of people rent their facilities out privately), a cabin in the new forest? . Perhaps change your search from cottage to accommodation to give you more options. Good luck
