Best place to travel in August that isn’t too hot!

We’re planning ahead for next year and I’m looking for somewhere that is close by (maybe within a 4 hour flight?) that isn’t too hot.

Scandinavia seems like a possibility but is there anywhere anyone would recommend that is fun to explore but not scorching?

Iceland is beautiful

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/07/2023 22:32

(Watch Alexander Armstrong’s show, looks fantastic)

Lesina · 24/07/2023 22:33

Ireland. It’s stunning. And won’t be hot.

Harrythehappypig · 24/07/2023 22:34

Dumfries & Galloway

In the climate now pretty much anywhere in Europe could get too hot in August. That said Paris and northern France, the Benelux, Denmark, and northern Germany all have weather fairly similar to Britain.

These are great suggestions, thank you! Will definitely look up Alexander armstrong’s show as I’ll need to convince the rest of the family too

We're thinking Norwegian cruise.

The Austrian Alps - beautiful, only a 2 hour flight and cheap in Summer!

If you are outdoorsy and like a chilled holiday We went to this place 20 mins from Gothenburg airport - was amazing. Cheap Ryanair flights. Can do day out in the city just enjoy the lake

also lovely beaches near Gothenburg eg https://www.visitkungsbacka.se/en/111650/Asa-Havsbad-Vita-Sand

Åsa beach

In Åsa, there are many bays with a plenty of sandy beaches.

The Netherlands had a great holiday location. Beautiful towns and cities and plenty of coastline. We did a week last week and cycled everywhere from the holiday park, or cycled to the train station to go a bit further away. We stayed two nights at Efteling theme park at the end of the week. Went on the Harwich ferry.

Brittany or Normandy both lovely with lots to explore.

midsomermurderess · 25/07/2023 17:46

Northern Spain, eg Asturias. It has beaches, mountains, cider, seafood.

MimiGC · 25/07/2023 18:41

I went to Stockholm one August and it was absolutely sweltering, which was not what I was expecting (or wanting). - still lovely, though.

Keykaty · 26/07/2023 14:30

South East Ireland. Best beaches ever. Micro climate - has the lowest rainfall in the country, it will not be hot hot.

StillWantingADog · 26/07/2023 14:33

Netherlands. Brittany. North west Spain.

HellonHeels · 26/07/2023 14:55

Scottiah islands? Great for outdoors stuff, bird watching.

HellonHeels · 26/07/2023 14:56

Also, it's winter in the southern hemisphere if you're prepared to travel that far?

TakeMe2Insanity · 26/07/2023 14:56

Finland, Sweden,Norway.

Flimpychunk · 26/07/2023 20:32

Not sure if actively be seeking the cold, more that it would be nice to go somewhere that wasn’t absolutely scorching!

These are lovely ideas, will add them all to the list! I’ve been wanting to go to Ireland for ages so maybe this is the time to do it
