Best place to travel in August that isn’t too hot!

We’re planning ahead for next year and I’m looking for somewhere that is close by (maybe within a 4 hour flight?) that isn’t too hot.

Scandinavia seems like a possibility but is there anywhere anyone would recommend that is fun to explore but not scorching?

I'm currently in a landal resort called hof van saksen in Northern Netherlands but its a bit cold and rainy. The activities and facilities are brilliant. Very centerparcs like. We hired bikes and it was fabulous how safe, easy and well organised their cycle path network is. The food has been fab and we had fun for 2 days sightseeing in Amsterdam when it was lovely and sunny but not too hot. I think the weather here is very UK Like and you could get lucky but otherwise it is not as nice as being somewhere sunny. Seems that's the choice now: hit and miss or reliably blistering. I'd rather take my chances with dodgy weather than go to southern Spain, Italy and Greece right now!!

Another vote for Austria around Mondsee or Attersee or Bavaria, Chiemsee, Starnberger See with day trips to Munich etc. or the Schwarzwald, Titsee or Lake Constance (Bodensee).

France. We’re off next week and it’s just going to be a bit warmer and a bit dryer than home. But not much. Pretty and the foods good.

Ooh that’s interesting - I hadn’t really considered the baltics!

I know don’t if it’s reliably like that but friend is in Slovenia. Sunny but not too hot, about 20 degrees. Looks beautiful

Bavaria can be very hot sometimes

mushforbrain · 28/07/2023 11:21

The Azores are beautiful and not too hot - low 20s. Very quiet and relaxed, great walking and swimming in natural sea pools. Incredible scenery.

Brittany. Then you wouldn't even have to fly. It'll be like Cornwall but slightly more reliable weather wise.

We went to Iceland in July a few years back and it rained every single day. Island in the North atlantic. Always a possibility.

Wales

I second that. 4 hours away by train if you’re in the SE.

Switzerland and Austrian Alps were scorcio this summer!

SingingSands · 02/10/2023 15:14

The Hebrides.

Outer/inner doesn't matter, they're all glorious.

Baltic cruise

We went to Denmark this year. Amazing beaches and their schools go back earlier than ours, so it's quiet from mid August onwards.

Flimpychunk · 03/10/2023 15:38

Didn’t know that about danish beaches! Sounds like a good shout.
