So we love to travel, we go lots to places in UK and europe and have a great time. I am currently saving money to take the kids to lapland as I really want to take them too se Santa clause, I think this will be absolutely magical for them. We also want to take them to Disney and potentially disney in florida. Because I am an endless dreamer and planner I want to already think of other places that would be absolutely magical for the kids to see.

when they're a bit older, Iceland is like another planet!

Coronationstation · 12/07/2023 12:57

the pyramids would probably have been pretty cool as a kid, particularly if they've done the Egyptians at school

GratitudeGoddess · 12/07/2023 13:21

China - the culture and people and visiting The Terracotta Army and the Great Wall of China

BorneoBound · 12/07/2023 13:23

Borneo rainforest

whoruntheworldgirls · 12/07/2023 13:25

I'm looking forward to going back to Hawaii and taking my daughter to see Kilauea

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 12/07/2023 15:39

Costa Rica for the wildlife

Costa Rica for the wildlife

Second this!!! I went to Costa Rica on honeymoon and a million percent want to take my kids back to see the cloud rainforest. It's just the most beautiful place to see wildlife

SoWhatEh · 12/07/2023 15:43

Definitely agree about Iceland. Also USA and Costa Rica. And when they are a bit older, Japan - perfect place to take tweens/teens.

cocksstrideintheevening · 12/07/2023 15:48

Costa Rica and Hawaii

Defiantlynot41 · 12/07/2023 15:52

Safari if they love animals

StillWantingADog · 12/07/2023 15:52

Iceland- I went when I was 16

Safari in East Africa - we went on honeymoon and said we’d take future kids on our 10 year anniversary! Sadly it’s now way too expensive but on the wish list

Costa Rica sounds more achievable I think

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 12/07/2023 15:56

Have they got a favoirite film that you could take them to wjere it was filmed? I am doing this next momth and am beside myself with excitement!!

Piyo · 12/07/2023 15:57

Road Trip up the Californian Coast. Best holiday ever!

Lordofmyflies · 12/07/2023 18:49

My kids loved Iceland with its puffing geysers and volcanic eruptions.
Vietnam was a hit - we sailed around Halong Bay for a few nights where Kong was filmed. They loved seeing the Vietcong tunnels and cycling through Hoi An when the lanterns where lit.
Sri Lanka was a good. We took them on safari to see Leopards and Bears. They collected tea leaves and made tea, went to a spice farm and rolled Cinnamon and then flopped on a beach.
Jordan was also awesome. We had fun applying Dead Sea mud and floating, camped in a Bedouin tent in the desert and rode camels around Petra.

I think there’s also a lot to be said for memories of uk holidays that might not be “once in a lifetime” but will stay with them forever……walk up Snowdon, camper van round the Scottish islands and run down sand dunes on a remote beach, watch the shooting stars from a remote hillside, see a west end show in London and visit Buckingham palace……I didn’t go abroad until I was 21 but I can still remember doing all these things before then (and a lot of it in more detail than I can big trips abroad at an older age!)

Orangello · 12/07/2023 22:04

Bora Bora. Snorelling with manta rays is not an experience I will forget.

Silkierabbit · 12/07/2023 22:38

Costa Rica wildlife and ziplines, best 10 plus due to zipline height.

Australia, Queensland, wildlife and Great Barrier Reef as well as Sydney penguins in Melbourne when old enough to manage flights

Borneo wildlife

Within UK Isles of Scilly, helicopter there, swim with seals Tresco red squirrels, kayaks

Lapland is great, also went in summer to see brown bears in wild at Arola bears

Carsarelife · 12/07/2023 22:55

When are the best months to go to Iceland?

Dindundundundeeer · 13/07/2023 11:40

Iceland brilliant, lots of adventure activities, out of this world in summer.

Cuba if you do self drive multi location

Sri lanka is amazing, culture,, history, food, wildlife.

Jordon - fab adventures and history, action, food. Has it all

Costa Rica - wild life and action adventures

Peru - top holiday. Amazon, city break, hiking, history, food.

Wales - brilliant, climb Snowdon, go down old mines, zipline, walk, beach

skiing - anywhere with snow. I'd combine with Santa and go to Ruka

Namibia - is just fantastic and you can camp, safari, sand dunes, vic falls extra

Tanzania - amazing adventure, wildlife and combine with sun and sea

Borneo and Indonesia - diving, wildlife, relaxation, adventure sports, biking

Morocco - history, food, adventure, culture

Mexico - not been yet but going, history, food, culture.

I took DD15 to Iceland in Feb this year. We stayed in Reykjavik and did excursions from there. We did Blue Lagoon which DD loved as did I, northern lights trip and Golden circle.

We spent time enjoying Reykjavik too - Fly over Iceland is cool and def worth doing! There are lots of museums too. Just mooching around the town is in inself worthwhile! We spent a day at Perlman museum which was fab and better than I imagined. Great restaurant too.

We want to go back and would choose September next time. To have a contrast with the cold weather in Feb!

There is so much to see that we didn’t do - ice caves being one. Would love to do more exploring of the south and go to diamond beach etc.

It is a beautiful country and I’d go again in a heartbeat!

I think I did a post on this, but for teens specifically, a while back. A couple of people recommended a California road trip. I looked into it and joined a FB group specifically about that. It was scuppered by Covid but we got to go last year with our teens who were 16 and 18 for after their GCSE and A-level . Went for 3 weeks and it was truly our once in a lifetime holiday. California is a really varied and big state, as big as France or Germany.

Nothing will ever beat that holiday, it was amazing!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/07/2023 23:46

I'd love to go to Iceland with my teens too. Eldest is now at uni though and has a girlfriend who he's keen to travel with. Plus life has got more expensive with paying for uni accommodation. So looking unlikely. I wish we had managed to fit in a couple more big holidays before this stage. 😥They are fab travelling companions.
