EasyJet cancellation

EasyJet have just cancelled a flight on 23/7, so just outside the 2 week compensation window. Their ‘manage disruption’ button has no other flights including either side of my date or from different airports, and I can’t get through to them, it just cuts off.

So thinking there’s an entire plane load of people looking to rebook I booked the only flight I could find. It gets in 8 hours later in the middle of the night and costs £450 more.

I’ve applied for the refund , but I booked so early the flight was super cheap. Is there anyway I can get the difference back ? I’m going to talk to my insurance co now.

Turns out it’s not covered by insurance either as I’m not delayed enough!

i won’t be travelling with easyJet again - absolutely zero customer service . Arg .

Was it the Krakow flight? same happened to us, so angry. Tried to find other flights but nothing unless willing to pay a huge amount more.

Airlines are still recovering from the impact of Covid. Qatar Airways recently cancelled my flight to Rome with ariund two weeks notice. They also did it with flights to the UK. It's really annoying.

TheresBoozeInTheBlender · 07/07/2023 18:41

£450 in total? I'd write to them but honestly, just be glad you've got a flight the same day. Imagine it could've been a lot worse if it was the only flight left!

StillWantingADog · 07/07/2023 18:47

was the £450 flight with them? If so they should have offered it as part of “manage disruption” but I guess not.
I don’t see why insurance won’t pay out though, your flight was cancelled not delayed

Easyjet were useless when they cancelled our flight home half way through our holiday. We eventually got moved to another flight (different route entirely) which we didn’t pay for. But racked up significant hotel and car hire bills, which I think they eventually coughed up for.

Yes it was Krakow. I’m really worried now they’ll cancel the return and it’ll cost me another ton of ££. I rebooked with wizz air also from Gatwick later that evening if you can still get seats ?

But yes it came in at over £500 and the refund I’ll get will be about £150. I was already stressing about finding the spending money as things have got so tight

Yes I know Christ .

I’ve told dd we’re not flying next year, I’ve been browsing the man in seat 61 and I’m doing trains across Europe from now on. I booked so early to afford it and it’s just a lottery if they can cancel at last minute

I’ve just realised that’s 350 more not 450 which makes me feel slightly better!!

Looking at it, it seems that route has been cancelled on a weekend. Not just your flight, all of the Saturdays now say sold out. Pretty unusual and most flights do go ahead. Fingers crossed anyway.

Trains are great but you have similar problems with cancellations too.

Ok so the return might be ok as it’s on a weekday, thanks for looking at it ! I know trains are cancelled but there are more options usually!

The time of my return flight isn’t showing at all right up to October . I guess I should brace myself …

So annoying. They cancelled Feb flights from Liverpool so we ended up going from Manchester in June. Fights and accommodation cost more.

Oh no. Is your return flight showing as "sold out"?

TheresBoozeInTheBlender · 07/07/2023 19:45

Yes. There are a few returns there that look cancelled. The 21:30 on a Thursday and a Friday morning one as well as a Tuesday morning.

Taylorscat · 07/07/2023 19:50

It’s still there I just found it! They have 2 on that day and wizzair has one too so hopefully be ok…

TheresBoozeInTheBlender · 07/07/2023 19:52

Oh good! If it's still there to book I think you might be ok

functionoverform · 07/07/2023 19:54

Ahhh, bit late now OP.
Next time, download a recording app for phone calls. Do not ask for a refund. Ask to be re routed. Then find the flights that fit to your original itinerary (these can include airports with 300km) and make sure they have availability. Tell easyJet to rebook you on your preferred choice. They will most likely refuse. Do not accept a refund. Ask for a deadlock letter.

Book your chosen flights. Go to MCOL (money claim online) aka small claims court. Claim back the cost of your new flights. Quite EC261.

Once you have requested a refund, easyJet has no further liability.

Taylorscat · 07/07/2023 19:55

Also… get this … they just called me !! I can claim the flight cost back as expenses when I get back. I take it back, that is quite good service ..

Taylorscat · 07/07/2023 19:56

The nice lady is going to cancel my refund request , as obvs I can’t do both.

Fabulous.

StillWantingADog · 07/07/2023 20:05

That’s pretty shitty if they look like they have cancelled the return but are waiting until inside the 2 weeks deadline. If so call them out on Twitter, I would.

look up the flight for this week on flight radar and see if it went or not.

StillWantingADog · 07/07/2023 20:06

Oh saw your update that’s great. Don’t expect it to be straightforward though, when I had to make a similar claim it took months and a lot of chasing.

ssd · 07/07/2023 20:08

Thats so bad them cancelling like that

That's good news but how does that differ from a refund?
