EasyJet cancellation

EasyJet have just cancelled a flight on 23/7, so just outside the 2 week compensation window. Their ‘manage disruption’ button has no other flights including either side of my date or from different airports, and I can’t get through to them, it just cuts off.

So thinking there’s an entire plane load of people looking to rebook I booked the only flight I could find. It gets in 8 hours later in the middle of the night and costs £450 more.

I’ve applied for the refund , but I booked so early the flight was super cheap. Is there anyway I can get the difference back ? I’m going to talk to my insurance co now.

Oh saw your update that’s great. Don’t expect it to be straightforward though, when I had to make a similar claim it took months and a lot of chasing.

I know I went through this in the pandemic as well!

"That's good news but how does that differ from a refund?"

The refund is £150 and the refund plus new flights as an expense is £500

Our flight home was cancelled recently with easyJet (due to local strikes) and to be fair they paid our claim for £2200 for the new flights (with BA), Hotel (as flight was next day), taxis and expenses in full within 7 days of me claiming, I was quite impressed.

@2catsand2kids that is good fingers crossed then .

@krakowfaraway on reflection (now I’ve stopped panicking) there were lots of seats on the wizz air flight so you should be able to get on easily.

I had a different easyjet flight cancelled yday. When I went online to manage my bookings, it showed the options of 2 others (more inconveniently timed). However if I opened a new window and acted as if I was booking a new journey there was a choice of about 6 flights. I called them and was cut off 4 times. On the 5th time after being on hold for about 30 min they changed to the flight I wanted.

Similar happened to us with Ryanair in April. They cancelled a day before the 14 days for compensation.
We couldn't get a flight out the same airport so ended up changing airports and paying more. Thankfully we hadn't booked parking yet.
I didn't even think to see if it was covered by insurance Hmm will remember that if it happens again.
Hope all goes well for your holiday.

The two times I've had issues with EasyJet they have been brilliant (to be honest neither times were their fault either but they went over and above to look after us) the same cannot be said for the airline beginning with R!

Best marks goes to ba who were amazing the two times we have experienced major disruption, especially that volcano back 12 years ago, exh got full board in a lovely 4 star hotel plus $25 a day additional drinks (drinks in room and at breakfast provided) and the cabin crew also stuck checked up on passengers each day

good to hear that people have been paid back when they claimed for new flights. We were going to talk to the claims dept on Monday to check this as were worried that a claims person might reject a £1400 flight charge even if we said someone in customer services said we could do it.

Did any of you who booked flights and claimed back the cost have confirmation from them that you could do this or did you trust they would pay out?

Lots of similar posts on a disneyland group I'm on as well as horror stories of being sent to crappy hotels with burnt out buses when the paris riots were on
I'm anxious about my flights now but expect I'll get to Manchester then see what happens. There's a 7pm flight after ours so I'll assume if mine was cancelled I'd be put on that. Coming back via eurostar so hopefully that'll be fine! It does primarily seem to be easyjet cancelling flights all over the place. Only me going with DD2 so fingers crossed it goes smoothly.
Its great they called you to sort it out
