Burgundy passport - anyone still using one?

Has anyone recently travelled on a burgundy passport rather than a new, blue one?

We fly to Austria in August and both me and DS have new, blue passports.

DH still has a burgundy one - issued in 2016, so, less than 10 years ago and doesn't expire until 2026, so way more than 6 months after our return and has at least 2 blank pages. This is fine, I take it?

Suddenly came to me that he doesn't have a new one, but his burgundy one is still well in date, so my understanding is that it's valid?

Of course it is!

PurplePear7 · 24/06/2023 22:29

Yes I flew on my burgundy passport about 2 weeks ago, still valid 👍🏻

notaladyinred · 24/06/2023 22:29

Yes absolutely fine, I'm on holiday right now having travelled on one issued just before the new ones came in.

Ringringringringringringringbananaphone · 24/06/2023 22:30

My burgundy passport was fine when we went away at half term, if that helps

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/06/2023 22:30

Of course it's valid. Why would it not be?!

Namechangers123484 · 24/06/2023 22:30

🤣🤣🤣🤣

User27680416 · 24/06/2023 22:30

Yes. My son flew abroad today on a burgundy passport and it was fine.

TheChosenTwo · 24/06/2023 22:33

Yes absolutely fine!!
sadly I’m the only one in my house of 5 who still has their lovely red passport, everyone else has got a NON beautiful blue one 😫

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/06/2023 22:34

Thank you!

I was fairly certain but just had a moment of panic 😂

Agree though - the new ones aren't very nice!

I renewed mine about a year earlier than necessary, just so I could have a red one for as long as possible, plus it says European Union on the front. Valid til 2029, travelled with it last week.

HamstersAreMyLife · 24/06/2023 22:41

Yes and it's no problem. Only my kids have black passports and we fly 3x a year to visit family

Albatross674 · 24/06/2023 22:41

Valid. Mi e was issued March 2020 (a real waste!) and so still burgundy.

SpikyHatePotato · 24/06/2023 22:43

Also, if you Google, you can find red covers to go over your nasty blue passports Grin

MerryMarigold · 24/06/2023 22:43

I'm going to Canada on a burgundy one. Dreading getting my blue one.

Starseeking · 24/06/2023 22:44

My burgundy passport doesn't expire until 2029, so plenty of life left in it!

sleepyscientist · 24/06/2023 22:53

We all have old passport that don't expire until 2029

Gateappreciation · 24/06/2023 22:54

Yes, fine last week.

I noticed the other day that dd's was issued 21st March 2020 😅ready for our Easter holiday.. 😭

Neverinamonthofsundays · 24/06/2023 23:47

Its only been 7 years since brexit was voted in so if you have a passport still in date you can use it no matter if you are intelligent of a brexiter. The colour does not matter, the date does.

midsomermurderess · 24/06/2023 23:48

Yes. Though I like in the UK, my burgundy Irish passport. Thank you, mum and dad.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 24/06/2023 23:48

of grrr i hate making mistakes when trying to be funny lol

BigChesterDraws · 25/06/2023 07:39

Of course they are still valid. They even issued burgundy passports after the withdrawal as the “old stock” had to be used up.

reluctantbrit · 25/06/2023 08:07

DH and I had ours issued in 2019 - burgundy

DD's is blue and was issued in 2021.

So far all of them made it through the security in Gatwick and Heathrow in 2022 and 2023.
