Liverpool Recommendations

cherryassam · 24/06/2023 18:03

Hoping to have 2-3 nights in Liverpool in early August.

Looking for recommendations for hotels and restaurants.

Budget for hotel would be preferably up to £180 a night, king size bed preferred, walking distance or easy public transport from Lime Street.

Restaurants - any price range, any cuisine. Prefer independents / small chains.

Mowgli on Bold Street or Water Street for Indian street food
Duke Street Market or GPO in the Met quarter - both great if everyone likes different foods

Fivemoreminutes1 · 24/06/2023 18:34

The Resident is great value for money and handy for Lime Street

Mysterian · 24/06/2023 18:37

I'm staying at theUrban Pod Hotel tomorrow. Just self check in rooms but they look nice. £45ish per night but did book very late.

What sights are unmissable?

Second Mowgli. The Baltic market is also good for food/drinks.

PinkFootstool · 24/06/2023 18:54

Another vote for Mowgli, love their food.

Avoid San Carlo - dreadful pretentious place with appalling service (unless you're a female influencer in a tiny skirt or actually famous) which is a shame as the food is pretty good most of the time.

Also avoid Matou - they gluten poisoned one of our table who has coeliac disease and had order a broiled whole fish with a side of plain boiled rice and explained her needs up front. She was in hospital for 2 days.

Hotels - I love the Malmaison and Hotel Indigo. I walk to them usually, but a taxi isn't megabucks if you have luggage.

Shakenbutbarelystirred · 24/06/2023 19:05

Di Strada is a great Italian Street food cafe.

MrsMoggy · 24/06/2023 19:22

We’ve stayed at the malmaison several times, love it there. Casa Italia is my go to place for food it’s always a great meal and atmosphere

Ohmylovejune · 24/06/2023 19:31

Host so Simple to book an air b and b.

Food Mowgli!!!! Love it there.

cherryassam · 24/06/2023 19:32

Thanks everyone!

We’ve been to Mowgli elsewhere before and loved it, I believe Liverpool is the original right?

I’d looked at Resident, Malmaison and Indigo so good to hear good things!

@PinkFootstool so sorry to hear about the experience at Matou! That’s super helpful because we’ve got someone with a dairy allergy.

We also like the Greek Taverna on Bold St and Bold St Coffee for breakfast.

Periwinkletoes · 24/06/2023 19:46

I live in Liverpool but treated ourselves to an anniversary night in the Coachworks a few years ago. Old industrial building that has kept a lot of the features which I like. Was a bit pricey, I don't know what the prices are now. The restaurant is excellent also. Nearby is the Buyer's Club. A really nice relaxed restaurant with lovely staff.Mediterranean-ish food. Also agree you will find loads of great places to eat if you wander down Bold st.

GandTtwice · 24/06/2023 19:48

The Bold Street Mowgli is the original

iamme21 · 24/06/2023 19:48

Rudys for pizza, castle street, bold street and the Albert dock

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/06/2023 19:55

We usually stay in the Malmaison.

Yes to the Greek taverna on Bold Street.

Mowgli isn't all that imo - most of the sauces just taste of tomatoes. But the starters are good.

millymae · 24/06/2023 20:35

Have a look at the Hope Street Hotel - they sometimes do offers.
It’s near the Philharmonic and the Cathedrals, a bit of a pull up from Lime Street but definitely walkable.
The Old Art School restaurant is close by which isn’t a cheap option but I’ve never felt we’ve wasted money there. They have a fabulous cellar bar too for cocktails etc.
if you like seafood/fish the Italian Club fish at the top of Bold Street is always reliable as is Wreckfish which is part of a small chain serving bistro type food.
Casa Italia which someone else mentioned is a Liverpool institution. It’s been going for years. My mum and dad went there when they were courting, they took us as children and we take our children now It’s child friendly and noisy and you do often have to queue
As an alternative to Mowgli Sanskruti is a good option but it only serves vegetarian and vegan dishes.

SusanSHelit · 24/06/2023 20:39

The Bluecoat is lovely especially in summer, the food is ok but the little garden is beautiful

Whenwillitallmakesense · 24/06/2023 21:05

Panoramic 34. Brilliant views over The Mersey, do lovely afternoon teas or tasting menus in evening, with wine flight optional. Again, not cheap, but lovely

Not stayed there myself but Radisson Red is fairly new and is actually on Lime Street and overlooks St George's Hall, close to some beautiful buildins such as the museum and library.

CurlsandCurves · 24/06/2023 21:17

Dale Street Kitchen and Bar for the best breakfast! They’re open all day and night so I’d assume the rest of the menu is just as good.

FrazzleKazzle · 24/06/2023 21:22

I was in Liverpool last weekend and stayed at The Resident. It is one of the best hotels that I have stayed in, I would really recommend it. It is right in the centre of the city and really handy for everything but the rooms are so quiet. We didn't hear any noise at all, from other guests or from the street outside.

We had dinner at Mowgli, The Greek Taverna and Turtle Bay (I enjoyed them all). We also had lunch at Rudy's at the Albert Dock and went to a lovely bar called Present Company for cocktails on the first night.

CurlsandCurves · 24/06/2023 21:25

Also Neapolitan Pizza and bar on Lime Street was just gorgeous.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/06/2023 22:16

Leaf is nice for lunch/cake.

WhiskersPete · 25/06/2023 09:59

Maray on the Albert Dock is brilliant. Also Salt House Tapas.

TizerorFizz · 25/06/2023 10:11

Hope Street Hotel is lovely. Titanic is great. Look for desks. Titanic is not central though. Art school restaurant was lovely. We went to Wreckfish too.
