Ryanair, can you only book flights online ??

My mum just rang to book flights with them and they said we have to do it over the internet but we are struggling to understand some of the charges (£6 check in fee ?).

Can you really not book over the phone ??

is the £6 for priority boarding? you don't have to take that, there is a tab to cancel it.

what flights do you need and when? maybe someone can help you work out the charges.

WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 16:51

This is part of the deal with them, nutty - dirt cheap "flight prices" but loads of extras - it's £6 each way per bag too.

If you have no hold baggage you can do online check-in and don't have to pay the £6 per person for the privilege of queueing

tiredemma · 22/02/2008 16:52

what date is it for and ill see what I get it to (used to book them all the time at work)

nutcracker · 22/02/2008 16:53

Nope it isn't for priority boarding.

It says it is airport/baggage fee. It is £6 if you check in with no luggage and £18 if you check in with 1 peic e of luggage.

OP posts:

It is for 2 adults and 3 children for 7th - 14th sept emma.

are you each putting a bag into the hold?

(would be cheaper to get a massive suitcase and put yours and kids all in together)

WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 16:56

If you all take only cabin luggage there should be in check-in charge at all, unless they changed it since I booked a couple of weeks ago?

They clobber you for paying with a credit card too - charge £3 per person or something for that too?

WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 16:57

NO check-in charge!

If you take just one big suitcase, you will need to make 2 bookings - one for one person with the case (max weight 15kg ), one for the others with cabin baggage only.

They are BASTARDS [ANGRY]

tiredemma · 22/02/2008 16:58

I get it at £438.25 + £54 for 3 bags into the hold.

nutcracker · 22/02/2008 16:59

The options for each person travelling are as follows...

0 bag and airport check in - this is £6 per person

1 bag and airport check in - this is £18 per person..

My mum would take a case and i would take a huge case with mine and kids stuff in.

Yeah thats right emma but the £54 is each way isn't it ?? So that makes it an extra £108 ??

This is what I booked the other day, for 2 people flying to Pisa in July:

Fares 7.96 (harhar)
check-in 12.00 (£3 each, each way)
debit card fee 4.00
baggage fee 24.00 (£6 each, each way)
taxes, fees & charges 60.38

Total 108.34

It wouldn't let me book 2 people with 1 bag and 1 free-online-cabin-baggage-only-check-in though.

nutcracker · 22/02/2008 17:02

God this is ridiculous. Why do they make it so hard. You can't even book over the phone to check you are doing it all right.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 22/02/2008 17:03

I don't know what I am doing now at all.

And if you exceed the 15kg allowance they charge £5-10 PER KILO for any excess so it's cheaper to bite the bullet and check in another bag.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 22/02/2008 17:04

They are cheap and they revolutionised budget flights. 18 years ago it used to cost my DB XX to fly from Dublin to Leeds Bradford with Aer Lingus. These days he can fly his wife and child into Gatwick for that.

I still hate them though.

WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 17:05

nutty, I was sat here with the 2 DDs, who are both grown-up, trying to book theirs, and it took about an hour! They bamboozle you!

Does it have to be Ryanair? Where do you want to go from and to?

tiredemma · 22/02/2008 17:06

it wont be both ways

nutcracker · 22/02/2008 17:06

They aren't cheap though.

So If me, my mum and the girls have 1 case each, what about Ds ?? He is 5, does he need his own case too ??

OP posts:
nutcracker · 22/02/2008 17:07

It is Birmingham to Reus , as far as I know these are the cheapest flights.

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 22/02/2008 17:08

Do you actually have 5 suitcases already, nutty? If not think about using holdalls, they are much lighter and leave you more of your weight allowance for actual clothes etc - suitcases can weigh 5-6kg empty.

tiredemma · 22/02/2008 17:09

sounds mad, but travel 'light'- 15kgs is a lot of luggage for 7 days really

nutcracker · 22/02/2008 17:11

Ok, thanks, I think what we are going to do is me and my mum have a case or holdall each, the girls have a case each and ds's stuff can be split between everyone elses. He won't have alot anyway.
