Is it worth going abroad for 5 nights?

Hi everyone,

Looking to just get some sun & a little break away with my partner & 2 children.

We’d be flying very late on the 1st July so that’s basically a day/night gone & flying back very early in the morning on the 7th. So technically would have 5 nights there. Flight duration around 2 hours 45 minutes.

Only have to pay for flights as would be staying in my dads villa, so no extra expense for accommodation. Looking at around £580 for flights.

Wondering if it’s worth it.

What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Thanks!

I just spent 5 nights in Dubrovnik. It was fantastic. Go for it!

Children are 1 & 2, so very young. Wondering if it’s worth the hassle of the travel.

Anyone else done it?

Yea definitely. We regularly go away for 3/4 nights abroad. Just nice to have a break

Absolutely ! We often go for similar durations. That's not a long flight and I guess you are keeping an eye on cost so if it's this or nothing, then go for it.

PlantFood · 15/06/2023 10:34

Definitely, and we did it even when the DC were tiny.

BreviloquentBastard · 15/06/2023 10:34

I pretty much always go away for 5 nights for anything shorter haul (under about 6 hours flight time). Anything longer I aim for 7+ nights because I'm a bad traveller and it takes me a while to get over longer flights!

Rnm62 · 15/06/2023 10:38

So tempting! Thanks everyone 😊

Yes, it is worth it if that’s all you have and you need a break; but it is better if you can do a week. We went to Corfu for 5 nights last year as I was desperate for sun and sea and had a great time; But I felt like we needed more days.

Went to Madeira with DH for 4 nights and again I just think we needed longer.

keepingcalmcarryingjon · 15/06/2023 10:40

Of course it's worth it. 😊

Thinkerbell78 · 15/06/2023 10:40

Since you got accommodation paid for then definitely go for it

Rnm62 · 15/06/2023 10:44

Cost isn’t an issue as such, but 1 of my dads work colleagues is due to arrive on the 8th which is why we could only do 5 nights. 7 nights would have been perfect. But i’m thinking 5 nights is still 5 nights, better than nothing & accommodation is already covered & flight is short 🤔

Yes, worth it. Tbh people are taking shorter holidays now. Just because it is so much more expensive. Even better if you are not paying for accommodation. Go and enjoy 😊

Mutabiliss · 15/06/2023 11:00

We always go for 5 or 6 nights. Went to Mallorca with our 4 year old recently and it was lovely, felt like a proper break. Getting ready to go is a hassle with a kid but worth it.

cocksstrideintheevening · 15/06/2023 11:06

5 nights is 5 more than none! Do it.

We used to drive down to my mums place in France for a long weekend and it's about a 10 hour drive.

I prefer lots of mini-breaks of 3-4 nights. I have a cat and no-one else at home, so a relative will go and feed her and it's not too long to leave her.

dancingsands · 15/06/2023 14:01

Yep we quite often pop away to Portugal for 5 nights, it's a lovely break x

ymemanresu · 15/06/2023 14:04

100%

Gracewithoutend · 15/06/2023 14:06

If you don't want to go, I'll go in your place! It's 4 full days plus an evening.

LaBefana · 15/06/2023 14:13

We rarely go for more than 5 nights. Been doing that for 30 years. Have been to Nice, Perpignan, Valencia, Barcelona, Girona, Malaga, Seville, Santiago de Compostela, Biarritz. Long enough to get some benefit and short enough to be not too expensive.

StillWantingADog · 15/06/2023 14:15

At that price yeah I’d go

robinsnest1967 · 15/06/2023 14:15

I came back at 10am this morning after 2 nights in Cyprus!!! Defo worth it but I travel alone. With kids I would want to do a minimum of 3 or 4.

MarkWithaC · 15/06/2023 14:18

If the kids are going to be an absolute nightmare travelling then no, I probably wouldn’t do it. Otherwise, if you’ve got somewhere to stay for free, absolutely I’d go for it!

FfeminyddCymraeg · 15/06/2023 14:23

Honestly, I’m not sure I’d bother for 5 nights when the Dc are that age. It’s just a lot of hassle!

Appreciate I’m in the minority based on previous replies but I have a rule of >2.5hr flight - one week minimum anything over 4hrs needs to be at least 2 weeks to make it worth it for me.
